This song has been such a comfort to me since we lost our New Orleans home in the wake of Katrina and I know Harry knows what it means to miss New Orleans too.
Biel2619: You are wrong and Frank is right. I am from New Orleans and so is Harry. I saw him play piano many times as a very young boy and he sang for maybe the first time at Tipatina's in 1978. He's as Nawlins as they come! Yeah u rite!
Nice to to hear someone take it like that and move us with the whole story. Feel like I am in The Quarter when he strikes it up at 2:15...reminds me of strolling through on a Sunday afternoon as the improv jam sessions get rolling. You miss that and you just might be missing one of the best times in your llife. That's what The Big Easy is all about and it just will never die.
WOW Wonderful performance by a true superstar. I'm a 71yo Aussie & i get annoyed when our local radio station bypass Harry most of the time & play that overrated Michael Buble. This bloke would have more soul in his little finger than most other artists.
Um bro you better BACK OFF Michael Bublé is the GOAT and nobody compares to that man. Not even Harry, as good as he is. BUBLÉ IS NOT OVERRATED HE IS BEAUTIFUL AND PERFECT OKAY? OKAY!
After the levees broke, I would lay in bed and listen to this over and over and weep--not even cry, just let the tears stream as I drank whiskey and breathed normally and smoked cigarettes. Would do that for a couple of hours at a time, laying still, hugging my pillow maybe, or staring up at the ceiling. Always this vid. It was cathartic (well, as close to cathartic as anything could have been at that point in time). One day my daddy caught me doing that and he just busted out crying, too (the only other time I ever say him cry was our Saints blocked the punt on Monday Night Football.) Suffice it to say: I think this is a masterful performance. Thanks Harry, baby. XO
@MultiKZB Lily Keber interviewed the Connicks (Jr. & Sr.) for her forthcoming film, Bayou Maharajah: The Troubled Genius of James Booker. You can sign up for email updates on the film website; the film is scheduled to release in 2012.
On this Same album he did that song If I Only Had a Brain from The Wizard of Oz I've never heard it sung like that and man it was beautiful and not only that did you ever see the movie the Memphis Belle when he did Danny boy swing Style I only wish there was a full recording of the way he did that song the traditional version is kind of sad but man the swing style of that song was like a celebration of life
this is a fantastic composition! Is it an original, or a cover? And Harry Connick, Jr., of all critters! I suppose he trued hard.; I heard this just now on WBAI-FM (99.5). This Saturday, August 22, 2015. Fantastic! Who is the composer?
Neil Flewelling says composer is Louis Alter from Haverhill, MA Written in 1946 for the movie New Orleans starring Louis Armstrong and Billie Holiday (her only acting role in film ). He wrote countless other songs.e.g. Manahattan Serenade, You Turned the Tables On Me, Nina Never Knew and many more.
he was kinda a little new owleans cutie back in the day wasnt he i like his fierce little look of intensity he flashes sometimes but that sweat drippin from his chin is gross hi Harry can i be yo southern beau!
If your comparing Connick Jr to shit, then you should know the famous story about him in fourth grade. Being unable to wipe his own behind, Harry Jr cried and cried until the teacher came in and then he cried more. The teacher refused to do it. In Connecticut, where Harry Jr Fraud went to school for twelve years, it's a teacher's union rule that the teacher is only required to wipe unwiped butt up until the end of third grade. The clean ending arrived in the person of the ASSistant Principle.
+Biel2619 Harry was born, raised and schooled in New Orleans. His father was the long-time district attorney for Orleans Parish. Where he lives now, New England, doesn't make him a big liar. Harry's as New Orleanian as they come.
You're wrong, Frank. He was raise in Weston, CT, where he attended public school from 1970-1982. He's pictured in all the school yearbooks for that time. His real father is or was on of the bigwigs at Sony Music and a stockholder in Sony Pictures. Pretending for whatever reasons that he comes from New Orleans makes him a huge liar as well as a fraud. My claims are documented in the Weston school yearbooks. I'm sorry you've been so fooled by this phony! Thanks for the interest!
You are wrong once again. He did not attend school in Connecticut in 1970. He would have been three years old! His father was district attorney from 1973 until 2003. You may have yearbooks of a Harry Connick but not one with Joseph Harry Fowler Connick who won piano competitions in New Orleans while a child. You perhaps also believe the the moon landing was faked, Obama was born in Kenya and Jimmy Hoffa is living in Palm Springs under an assumed name.
+Frank Rives He's lying about his age. That's a standard practice in show business. I know what I'm taking about. He's didn't win any competitions in New Orleans. He didn't win any competitions as a child expect pants pooper until sixth grade.
Man, I had this whole concert on vhs cassette back in the early 90's. What a great show man. Thanks for posting!
My brother had it too! Best concert man. The looma crane. Lucian babarin. Too much. Grew up watching that on repeat.
Still have VHS... I’ve been watching it tonight for the first time in yearss.

Man, Harry got dat New Orleans swag!!!
I'm a pianist and Harry has an absolutely insane command of the keys. Just amazing and moving!!
Hey Harry..hey NOLA. I was last there in 93 left for SF. So now there's 2 I dearly love. Harry and Tony. Get it? Dont no which is worse. Omg.
what a great number.I didn't realize Harry was such a great piano player. And such a great singer.
This and Avalon are my most favorite piano playing from Harry connick Jr. He is a great musician and actor and a nice guy
A lot of James Booker in this rendition...and that would only make sense since James spent much time teaching Connick!
Nice to to hear someone take it like that and move us with the whole story. It always makes me feel happy when I hear Harry pound the keys. I love his style and amazing talent.
My Favorite! The BEST!

If, like most, you heard Louis' version first; then this is bordering on unlistenable. At least until he hits the piano solo.
probably tha worst version of this on you tube. go figure

What the fuck are you on about?
Ge: Harry Connick Jr Weston, CT. He's not from New Orleans. He's a big liar!

This guy. Harry must have stole his girl or something
