Honestly i think the problem atleast for me is the shipping cost due to the huge box
which can be up to half the actual figure's price

One thing they also didn't mention is that given how subjective art is, the target audience for really expensive figures must only be a small demographic. The figures don't even have widespread appeal. Big base, sure, but the designs are mostly non canonical. It's trying to look "grand," by scaling the base base unnecessarily. I don't really recommend buying figures like this that take up a lot of space but are not spaceworthy.
For a lot of the figure collectors, even if they really care about quality, the number one priority is still price.
The only company I can wholeheartedly recommend is Alter. They have the top tier quality without being too expensive. They do make really expensive figures, but it also scales realative to the complexity and size of the figure. The easiest way to put it is that they have higher quality with a lower price floor.

All figures are luxury items. Shibuya Scramble is expensive but it seems like a lot of other brands have caught up or surpassed their prices by now. Plus I see a few cheaper SS figures out there now.

The bases are absolutely stunning, I think with the limited space that people usually has though (myself included) they’d rather have a figure of the character with a more compact base that doesn’t take up a whole shelf by itself. I def need the Aki figure one day despite my space issues XD

kinda sadge to not even mention the third and biggest problem. Quality control. those bases are fckin fragile, some of them dont even live through the shipping, some of them are very easily damaged just during the assembly (like albedo) and like almost every second figure of them has quality issues and it is basicly a gamble to get one without it. Which is complete bullshit for this price. Not even mentioning that most stores dont even give warranty for these figs due to the previous issues, they are expensive and damaged easily.

Not to mention they are not "most elaborate" on the market.
A number of other companies pretty much caught up or were there before (like Myethos or sometimes Good Smile), both in details and, unfortunately, prices.

    Some thoughts on this:
-1- These Figures are gorgeous - from the characters, clothing, effects and bases.
-2- Some complain when bases are too plain - there should be no complaints from this crowd.
-3- Way expensive. However, one has to see it as buying a piece of art or a sculpture vs. an anime figure.
-4- Detailed sculptures, even with minimalist style or assembly, will take up space.
My final thoughts: So beautiful but too expensive. Might be fun if they chose to release cheaper scaled down alternatives of certain figures in the future with less effect or base for buyers on a budget. Asuna looks gorgeous.

My personal favorite would still be Alter, but I can admire and respect Shibuya Scramble (SS)'s ambition and what they are trying to do. There are definitely figures from them I love to pick up and I will root for their growth (ideally not in price 😂).
I feel like their starting/presence was probably at an unfortunate time when figures' pricing was escalating and people may have misplaced the causation of the trend to SS and some others. But that negative association I believe to have mostly settle down since SS has release a lot more figures and proven their quality, mostly.
At least, I like to think they try to uphold their branding with integrity like the wing replacement they did for the Albedo situation.

1:06 this shot was totally necessary lol Anyway, I love Shibuya Scramble figs, the work to balance the base and the character is amazing, so I don't get the complains. Some figures would be boring without the decoration. Regarding the over-the-top price tag; if they get sold out, it means there are people willing to pay those prices for those figures, so the compay will keep 'em. Otherwise, they'll make sales and lower their future prices cuz it's not profitable.
They are center pieces of a shrine or worthy of a dedicated shelf for a set. Sure, I like Pop Up Parade's to put 'em beside my mangas and stuff, but for some characters I need one fig to be the one I immediately look at when I see my collection.
Anyway, I am willing to get the Hayakawa Aki (as soon as I save enough to get Denji too cuz shipping prices are high as f) and the price is not gonna stop me.

The figures look amazing. As a collector of prize figures, I have never really seen the appeal of 1/7 scale figures as they usually do not look to far away in terms of quality from the new release of prize figures. I LOVE most these bases. However, the figure needs to be like a grail figure for me, character I like, awesome pose, outfit, facial expression, colour scheme and such. For this price tag the figures would need to perfectly fit my expectations. So far none could achieve this. Other figures achieved this with a lower price which made me consider buying the figure while having only few minus points from the full score. So I have this awesome figure that is like 92/100 in my displaycase.

SS base design is generally not really the best IMO(there are standouts, but as noted, many are non-canon so kinda meh). But on the other hand, some of my favorite elaborate base figures came out after SS started, so maybe it was the kick the industry needed. This include for example the Licorne Jalter and the Cuirassier Nori Salter from GSC.
Before the dawn of SS in 2020(announced in I think 2019?), the most elaborate figure I owned was the Kotobukiya Rory Mercury, which was nice but not quite up there with the new wave. I'm sure there are better ones out there, but I think it's safe to say it was a lot rarer before SS.
As someone who have quite a bit of figures already, my standard have gone up. So I do welcome the increase in elaborate set up. The increase in price... not so much, but most other company who are joining the trend do keep their price a bit more under control and that's nice.
P.S. I can't say I "understand" the concept of luxury figures. The fact that all collectible are somewhat of a luxury aside, if I wanted the best, I'd be looking at statues. Now, the selection(at least official, well QCed ones) are not as wide, but that's where real luxury resides.

They're trying to sell luxury to a crowd that's used to buying mass-produced. Just look at what happens in fashion. Try selling a Birkin to someone who's used to shopping at SHEIN.
Still, me being the pauper who shops at SHEIN, I still admire how artistic Shibuya Scramble is. Their artistic vision serves as something other figure makes can strive for, and maybe even copy and improve on. Suddenly, with their figure releases, the bar is set high and everyone else needs to strive in order not to be labelled "cheap" or "common". That brings better quality products and more beautiful figures, I think.

  • @azureblueotaku
    @azureblueotaku 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

I'm not a huge fan of Shibuya Scramble figures. They're too big and dynamic (mostly centerpiece, borderline resin-like designs) but the overall quality sometimes does not match up with the price. I've yet to see something from them that truly gives off the premium vibe they're aiming for.
They love using the transparent plastic as a cover up of their basic painting and (lack of) shading. They also need to work on their color grading as their figures often look oversaturated to me.
I do like the Alice figure but the Asuna one could've been executed better.
The faces for the Quintuplets look off to me so I decided to skip that set and go with the casual looks from GSC instead (with a friendlier price too!).

@@InfamyOrDeath-__- genuinely, why are they "some of the best"?
      What makes them better?
      Rare character?
No, characters chosen are not unique, they have tons of figures from other companies.
      Rare base?
Also no, currently many chinese and some of the japanese companies do similar or even grander bases.
      Rare size?
Not really, one of the regular 1/6, 1/7, 1/8 lines.
      Good quality?
Not necessarily, QA control and fragility seem to be big issues.
      Lasting longer?
      Nope, they are PVC.
They are not bad figures and figure manufacturer, but to say they are outstanding is just not correct nowadays, I think.
