I've had my machine for about 5 years now. I don't use it on a regular basis. I crank them out by hand and pace myself so my back doesn't get sore. ( I'm 60 haha) I've never used waste yarn. The tutorial I originally watched just had us pulling each yarn tail up and tying it tightly together. Then I run the yarn down between the two layers so I don't have to weave in ends. I've never had an issue with one coming apart at the top. The machine is very choosy on what yarns it does well with. Soft lighter yarns seem to work better. Caron Simply soft, Lionbrand Ferris Wheel, Lionbrand Jeans and Patons Classic are my go to. I make them for charity for inner city school children. Makes a nice warm hat for them.
Loving the videos. The beanies look amazing. Some yarns don't like the machines, even if the same brand and different colours has worked before. As mentioned earlier you don't need waste yarn when making the reversible/double layer beanies, look up on videos on cast off, they a time saver!!. Also I hear using the drills are very bad for the machines even if you use the low voltage drills, reasons are 1- they void the machine warranty and 2- due to holding by hand it might shift and make the handle loose, all those issues will break the machine and not even hand cranking will work in future. I have head of motors but they are a bit pricey and mostly out of stock. Looking forward for future videos 😊😊😊❤❤❤
When you are dropping stitches it usually can be remedied by using a weight of some sort. With a troublesome yarn, crank about 10 rows or so, whatever gives you enough for the weight to grab onto, then attach the weights all around the inside on the knitted part, then see if that helps, I would start slow with the drill after you attach the weights, just to be sure they don't catch on anything. The extra weight helps the stitches to go down all the way on the needles so they don't slip off.
New subby here! Love ur vids I really appreciate how real you are about the speed bumps that come up when ur crankin away. How many rows are you doing for your beanie’s and do you use tags?
My daughter makes these hats also with the Addi. Yarns that are soft are better like Caron simply soft and Big Twist. Red Heart was a failure because it was too stiff. It is a learning process. She does not use a drill be cause the machine would freeze up. Good luck!
The first 2 hats you made, is the yarn the same brand? Because if it isn’t they might just be slightly different weights and that’s could be the reason one side looks like you have more rows…. Also you could make things a lot quicker without using scrap yarn at the beginning and the end… you simply cast on with the colour you want to use and then to finish you pick of each loop with the yarn you’ve been using and can cinch it up with that 😁
I just came across your channel I’m sorry to be negative but you are being so negative about yourself and skills I love your beanies. Wish I was in USA to buy one
I have had my addi for 8 years. And no way would I use a drill on mine. It will ruin the gears. I can tell you are a newbie on the addi. There are some yarns you just won’t be able to use unless you constantly watch each stitch till the weight of the hat starts to pull the stitches down. I make hats for charity. You shouldn’t have to use waste yarn at all. But I can make 50 in a 12 hour period. You will learn.

Good to know- thank you!
I'm not a big knitter, but I wonder what the time difference between machines vs hand done. I just bought the sentro and can't wait to try it
Enjoy! I really like my knitting machines. I am a suuuuuuper slow hand knitter!
