The Marquis is Dead, formerly known as The Marquis, is the solo project of Dillon Steele, self described as "Anti-Industrial Apocalypse for Modern Dystopia".
Originating in Montreal with his decidedly Post-punk debut 'The Marquis', released in 2015 with Art Not Love Records (Named in the top albums of the year by cult underground music magazine Silent Shout), The Marquis is Dead has a prolific and eclectic discography, constantly evolving as so does the artist himself.
His sophomore album, the brilliant 'The Suburbs Dream of Bloodshed' was released under the care of the cult Berlin record label [aufnahme + wiedergabe] in 2021, followed by the deranged VHS audio-visual concept album released with Strange Therapy Records of Amsterdam later that year.
In March 2022, he self-released the brutal 4-song EP titled 'PLAGUE YEARS'. Not an easy piece to get through, it is ultra-weight industrial, such as the club destroying track 'THREAT' made in collaboration with Berlin-based Mexican artist Carlos GrabStein aka 89s†.
"A Special Place in Hell" from his latest album "I Am The Blade And The Wound", a visceral composition released under the Italian label Brutal Forms, with its premiere through Miseria Records. This track is a violent meditation, infused with the decadent remnants of death metal and the relentless grind of industrial. The sound oscillates between suffocating darkness and methodical chaos, evoking the cold precision of martial industrial influences.
What sets this track apart is its deliberate, ominous pacing. The layers of distortion unfold with an almost cinematic sense of dread, each beat resonating like the final steps toward an inevitable end. The Marquis Is Dead creates an oppressive atmosphere, where every element seems designed to suffocate, disorient, and drag the listener into the void. "A Special Place in Hell" is not just a title but a destination. It is both the blade and the wound, cutting deeply into the listener's psyche.
