- Anna-Jane Casey performs "I Enjoy Being a Girl", a show tune from the 1958 Rodgers and Hammerstein musical "Flower Drum Song". This performance featuring the wonderful John Wilson Orchestra conducted by John Wilson and was recorded at the 2010 BBC Proms.
The strings sound is just phenomenal
I’ve always loved this song from a great movies Flower Drum Song. I’m male and I always think how much every woman is beautiful and this song tells it all!
Anna-Jane Casey sings this with such pride and joy. This is one of the great songs from “Flower Drum Song”. The John Wilson orchestra is always wonderful.
SHE IS WONDERFULL, PURE ENCHANTMENT !!!
😂❤😂❤😂
Musical theatre performances don’t get much better than those of Anna-Jane Casey. Fabulous
I love how he kept the arrangement the same as the original. It shows he's in tune with all the nuances of the classics.
No. The classic original was scored for Broadway, a theatre pit orchestra. What we have here is the version rescored for Hollywood.
@@grenvilleburrows281 Correct. It's the movie version as opposed to the Broadway version.
The campness of the song is only surpassed by the campness of the conductor. And I mean that so nicely ❤️❤️🥰
Impeccable!
She's just wonderful!!!
Hans van den Berg, thank you! Loving every bit of this piece! Dorothy (Tampa Bay, Florida)
A highly musical performance by all of a delightful song.
The song that I can relate with, now that I'm older 🙂🙂
Anna jane Casey is fantastic
PURE ENCHANTMENT!!!
Thank your for sharing )
I had the pleasure of singing this number when I played dame in pantomime. She is so much better than me 😂🤣
Damn... she sounds like a 15 years old girl.... BRAVO
She's 50 now.
some of melody fragment based on F.Chopin. It is very fine piece of american musical.
Woo Wee Woo Waa !!
Good Job
She's really great. (Have you seen her do "Tap Your Troubles Away" at Proms?) I wish she'd do my version of this song:
"I Abhor Being a “Girl”
When I have a brand-new “Hair Don’t”
And my lashes are straight, unfurled
And my non-made-up face will scare, Won’t
I abhor being a girl? [Spoken:] Nope!
When guys say I’m cute and funny,
Whether Baron or Duke or Earl,
I don’t want their respect, (just their money!)
I can roar, being a girl.
I flip when guys judge me on appearance;
As if I were just a pretty face,
Most guys’ comments lack a clear coherence
AndIjust want to fire them off to outer space!
I’m just not that kind of “female”
All I want is the life I foresee;
I don’t want to depend on a “he male”
I’ll enjoy.. being a girl... who’s just a girl... like... me.
Girls, times change and so do viewpoints
And you both want life’s biggest pearl.
Take advantage of modern New Points:
You can soar being a girl.
You’re not bound by past restrictions
That says girls only dance and twirl.
You can drop all the sexist fictions;
You can soar being a girl.
Just ignore what the world says a girl is;
Break the mold; thumb your nose; win the case.
If a guy tries to shackle you just hurl his
Old-fashioned expectations in his face.
Nonetheless, if you like the old ways,
And classic girls’ roles are what you do;
That’s ok; the main point is always
You can soar being a girl, as long as the girl
Is you!
This is better than the original! Bravo!😁
@@rudistade5939 Thankz! I have to admit, it's really fun doing this stuff. I wrote it for a middle school show.
The hardest part of acting is standing there while the orchestra. Same with classical singers, like in bel canto, where they sing this climactic note and then have to stand there while the orchestra/piano finishes.
Watched this twice. For the blonde violinist.
Why isn't she tap dancing??
