Some of those gossiping women in the office may have wanted him for themselves. They saw all the things she had from her husband and wanted that life. Matteo now has to be stronger against those rumors. Maybe take a stand and tell those busibodies to mind their own business. That if they do the work they would be to busy to spread false rumors. Like chickens clucking at each other.

Often the jealous are willfully concealing/not exposing others' suspicious behaviour; then later to be found gloating, after someone they had been envious of, eventually came to a fall.

IMO this man was - to a large extent - justified in his suspicions. To for example be lusting after seductive virtual images (on screen or otherwise) is idolatrous and already a form of adultery; possibly preceeding eventual full-blown physical infildility. One should cautiously avoid even the appearance of evil.
The lady obviously also was acting irresponsibly in public, while emotionally entangled with another man. That he was already married to a man, and supposedly not attracted to women; does not prove anything. He could have (secretly) been bi-sexual, and affairs often anyway occur between cheaters who are both married.
Personally I would rather be informed by others about suspicious behaviour of my spouse. Usually this does not happen, with the party cheated upon the last to know.
The guy probably should have done DNA testing to confirm his paternity; he could then have shown the positive test to anyone spreading rumours.

After all those rumors it was hard for him to believe that she wasn't cheating, so when the truth came to light he was deeply ashamed. He should have come up with something else to get the truth out.
I am of mixed race, while my late husband was white. When our daughter was younger, children thought she did not look like me - while curiously some adults thought she did not look like her dad. If they said anything to him, he would reply. 'My wife is Anglo-Indian.' If people had gossiped about me, like these so called 'friends' did - he would not have believed them.
