Seeing some of these comments, I've got this to say for future viewers. Do NOT mistake a mother's instinct for a mother's love. A hippo is one of the most ferocious beasts on the planet. They are solid, dense muscle, and they are notoriously territorial and aggressive animals. Point being, there should be no illusion of 'love' existent in these animals, as love is known to a human. They will not hesitate to kill you, and they should be regarded with this truth in consideration.
This is not to say they should not be respected - quite the opposite. In respecting the world that we live in, it is necessary that we understand that certain aspects of nature's creation are not meant to be interacted with; they are spectacles to be viewed from afar, fragments of life's history for us to ponder and be amazed by.

This proves hyenas aren't cowards because if they were, they wouldn't even be going in hippo territory in the first place. Hyena just swam towards a living hippo to eat the dead one (even though the hippo is telling him or her to go away). 11:36 A hyena THAT close to a hippo can't be a coward. I know there are more hyenas, but that hyena is closest by him or herself!

    • @auburneytuckerson2959

@@MaevaStardust Yeah, because being smart enough to not try to take on a male lion, risking their lives to seem "badass" for some stupid human's pride makes them cowardly, okay. Focusing on more important things like staying alive, rather than stupidly taking on a bigger predator to be "big and bad" sure makes them stupid, doesn't it? The fact that there are more of them in the wild than lions, thriving and surviving doesn't matter because they avoid fighting a male lion. That's clearly more important than surviving because as dumb humans, pride and power matters more than living.
Whomever said humans were intelligent was clearly delusional.

Those hyenas looked like they had all the time in the world so I'm surprised that they backed off. Also she must of left it eventually especially when she got hungry and needed to eat.

I wondered what was going on at first - it just seemed bizarre that Hyena would try to take down a Hippo in the water. Realisation only came when the camera zoomed in a little and what I had previously assumed to be some dead branches or other flotsam was in fact the hooves of a deceased and mostly submerged hippo - likely the young of the larger hippo which is in all likelihood the mother. That in itself is a little curious, as when the Hyena finally get to the corpse it is already well decomposed.

It took me a while to realise what was happening when I was recording it. I've seen chimps and elephants behave in a similar manner in documentaries. I've never heard of hippos doing it.
