Hi Sam, I've made microwave handwarmers for children. I fill them with specially treated wheat you can get online but you can also use rice. I make the pouches with calico and a fancy little sleeve to put them in. The sleeve is removable so is easily washed.
Love the cactus ❤ I made flax seed pillows for my girl friends this year. They hold heat for a long time and don’t need baking first 😊 Very quick and easy 🎄
Sam! What a super cute idea! I just came back from visiting our son in Arizona and eventually we will retire there so I love all types of Cacti. I especially love when they bloom and your little flower was adorable. Thanks for the idea!
Hi, love the cactus idea, would definitely suit my daughter who kills most plants! And I've made a microwaveable heat pad and filled mine with rice, but you can use wheat, some seeds and also cherry stones. And you can add things like lavender for scent too.
Its wheat in the hand warmer bags. Theyre mini " wheatbags" if you make long rectangular ones say 20" x 8" theyre great for relieving bad backs. The wheat diffuses the heat for a long time.
Fabric cacti - genius idea. Have spent the evening making my sister’s “fathead” (her term not mine) dog a Christmas bandana as even the XL versions for sale are too small for him.
I have made dozens of fabric hot packs for warming in the microwave. They are super easy and fun to make from leftover quilting cottons. The fabric AND thread must be 100% cotton. If there is any polyester, it can catch fire. I like to use dried whole kernal corn (the type used for animal and bird feed) but you can use rice, dried beans or dried cherry pits. You can also buy clay beads that are designed to get hot in the microwave. I don't add essential oils or dried lavender. Some scents can be overwhelming for people who are sensitive to perfumes. Thanks for the gift ideas. I love your videos even though i don't make many of my own clothes.
I love the cactus idea! Why do you bake the rice first? I make rice bags that I heat in the microwave and have never baked it first. Just wondering. Thanks for the ideas!
I have been advised before for items not heated in the microwave such as the pumpkins I have made that the rice should be baked to remove moisture to stop the little rice bugs!
