  • Hey there everyone and thanks for checking out this video!
Today I am sad to say that I'll be calling it quits with my Summer with the Masters project - Primrose by Alphonse Mucha and Distracted by Diamonds.
I've struggled working on this project over the past month and I finally decided to move on from it. I wanted to share my observations and let me know what you think.
It's a bummer but I may decide to kit something else up to finish up the event with. We shall see.
Thanks again for watching and happy placing!

I don't think your being picky at all! I think we pay top dollar for these canvases & should always get a top-quality product, you addressed this gently & with class

Hi Anthony, I had the same thing happen to me from a licensed company that has since gone out of business. The skin was very orange, the glue was not very sticky, and the drills were popping off. I ended up throwing it in the garbage when I finished it. I wish I was like you and gave up before I wasted so much of my time. Thanks for your honest review and you weren’t picky at all. When you pay a higher price, you deserve a premium kit. ❤

I only watched halfway through. I'm sorry for your experience, but I appreciate your honesty. I got a diamond painting from a suggestion of a reputable diamond painter who suggested the company, and I was frustrated start to finish. Diamond painting for me is a meditative art form, and though I love a challenge because it teaches patience, I find if I am practicing frustration, then I'm not learning anything. I'm sure they'll reach out if they haven't already, but Mucha's are big panels, and if you have already registered frustration in your nervous system with this panel, it may be hard to accept a replacement. I hope they make it right and you find another fabulous painting to share with us.❤

I bought a kit I dearly love from a reputable shop with the same issues you describe. I have put it away and it has been a few years since I've been able to look at it. I love the image so much and it will be beautiful. Now that it has been some time I am thinking about going back adding extra glue in the areas not completed and trying again. Ordinarily I would just toss it but I love the image. So.... I appreciate your honesty about this kit. Thank you!

Thank you Anthony for the honest review of your experience with this kit. It am sorry you had to make the decision to scrap this canvas. I just recently received my very first order from DBD and I really hope I have a good experience. I really love the images I bought. I have two wips that I am contemplating scrapping but they are huge in size and color count so I am having a hard time making that decision. But the drill quality & gapping is making me crazy. I put them away for now and my hope is when I will come back to them I can see it through.

I'm sorry you had that experience. I agree with abandoning a project that is frustrating because of inferior materials and which won't bring you joy to look at when it's finished. Too bad. It could have been so much better.

So sorry to hear this. I have thrown away 3 canvases in my time of diamond painting. And you’re using the exact same measurements on determining whether to continue on or not. Quality of materials is a big one. And especially one of these Old Masters kits. They are so complicated that also struggling with challenging drills or the stick of the glue takes all the fun out of it.

Thank you for your honesty and letting your viewers know about your frustration with a particular kit. Like you said, this is a hobby, your special time and shouldn't be a burden.

I’m working on Primrose from DAC and there is a definite difference in the rendering. I don’t blame you at all for tabling it, but I know that is really frustrating to do!

I had the same issues you did when I worked on this exact canvas last year. I actually reached out to the owner when I kitted up as the skin tone was very orange and alarming. She replaced some of the orange drills but not all of them. With the replacements though and some other changes I made, I was happy with the finished project.

Hi Anthony, thank you for your honest review on this Distracted by Diamonds kit. I unfortunately had a very similar experience when working on their kit Young Lady with Gloves (which was one their Tamara de Lempicka kits). It was my first time doing a Distracted by Diamonds kit and I was so confused because TH-cam content creators all raved about this shop and I thought I was alone in having drill issues and just feeling like the colors (especially the skin tone) were off 😢. I finished the kit either way because it was so expensive, and I shared my experience with the shop owner, but I didn’t feel like they were too concerned with the feedback that I shared. I still have another Tamara De Lempicka kit from them that I’m saving, I was going to wait until it qualified for summer with the masters (2026?) but now I don’t know. I finally bought one more of their kits recently (City Dreams), which I’m hoping will be a better experience than before, but if I continue having drill or rendering issues I most likely won’t order any more kits from them.

Aww I’m so sorry Anthony. Big hugs. I know you spent so much time on this but you are absolutely right, it should be fun not frustrating 🤗 there are other kits you will enjoy working on for sure.

Total agreement with you. This is supposed to be fun. I have had a few kits that just didn't get finished. One was by Distracted by Diamonds last year for Summer with the Masters, and I know it was rounds, but I can't remember exactly what was wrong with it. It might have been the sliding glue thing, as I also had that with another kit from a different shop. That drove me crazy. I have since worked on the same picture (from the other small shop) in squares and no problems at all. I don't think non-painting people realize the hours that go into this, and when you realize you have 50 more hours to go on something that is driving you crazy, maybe it's time to just not do it. Plenty of wonderful paintings out there.

Hi Anthony. Just so you know I had similar issues with drill quality and and a slippery canvas with DBD Vanity

I am also working on a Distracted by Diamonds kit in Mucha for an event. I am experiencing the same. Drills are square and are frankly terrible quality. And I too am not enjoying this canvas at all. The sliding of drills is almost greasy feeling, sliding around. I don’t care for how mine is turning out either. I probably would not buy from them again. I got 310s that were a mix of squares and rounds. Then got it corrected and all the drills are stuck together. Poor quality all the way around.

I had the same issue with a kit from DBD and when I brought it up to the owner she was very rude to me about it. I haven't bought a kit from them since.

It's really a shame, sine the image itself is amazing 😊

Anthony, no need to feel bad about giving up on this kit. These big canvases take too much time to work on when you know you won't be happy with the result. There are too many other kits out there waiting to be worked! I agree with you, the color charting on the kit is not good. No matter which version of this image is used, her dress and her skin are not supposed to be the same color! You are being very kind in your comments about the shop - of course, you would be, because you are such a kind-hearted person.

I got a Distracted by Diamonds LARGE canvas in squares...loved the colors, loved the rendering, but there was too much space between drills....large areas of gapping. I got 60% of it done and am so frustrated I have not returned. Yesterday I pulled it out along side a new canvas from another company and chose to do the new canvas. I just don't want to be that frustrated again. I would like to try some of their other canvases....I have never done a DAC squares...now I am nervous about squares...

oh boy anthony, it is ok to walk away from a canvas if you start falling out off love with it due to issues beyond your control. This is one of my top artist for painting and it breaks my heart. You can use glue to try and help but i understand walking away and just not doing this canvas. Good on you to be so honest and open its so good to see honesty in the hobby. As I love large art work i understand the time this takes to do. Im in the hopes you fall in love with a new canvas and wash any bad feelings you have had on this one. HUGGS

Yeah, this one is a little off and I totally thought her hip and side was exposed, but she is in a dress. These colors are a miss unfortunately. So yeah, stop. This hobby should be enjoyable and these panels are so gorgeous. This didn't do Mucha any justice sadly. Good call. Love your videos!!!

You are very detail oriented so I can understand your frustration. The skin tone is definitely off there’s no reason to continue working on this project if you’re not happy with the results.

I had the slippery glue problem with a Hannah Lynn from DAC. It was miserable and my OCD could not take it. The drills would not stay straight. I tossed it.

  • @SusanKG

How frustrating! However, her arms are just too orange from my point of view as well. My very first kit ever from a premium company had terrible glue issues. I almost gave up on the craft entirely. Fortunately I discovered Dotz Stick and it saved my canvas. It was a painful hurdle to overcome as a newbie, but I’ve had much better luck since. Of course, I never seem to have that popping sound either when I place drills. That is something I aspire to! The other Primrose canvas is so much prettier. The unfinished one needs to retire!

What a truly disappointing experience for you. Alphonse Mucha's work clearly holds a special place for you. It was evident by the time and thoughtfulness you put into your posted video on him. Having to quit a project that not only you chose specifically for the event you are hosting, but of an artists work you truly care about must really sting. I'm not as familiar with his work, so when I first saw the image with the colors chosen for the render, I thought that her thigh was showing. I don't know of a stronger way to confirm that the wrong colors were chosen. You handled your critique of your experience with your DBD canvas with poise and deportment. It was evident that this was not an easy video for you to make. I appreciate your commitment to being honest and transparent in your experiences. It makes you a content creator we can trust. Perhaps you can use that as one small positive aspect to your otherwise disappointing experience.
