Absolutely unreal experience in stereo. Great demo, Emily!
Agree. The part from 6:30 onward, even on my phone had some great stereo stuff
FINALLY an effective demo of this pedal. Thanks!
Thank you for making this pedal make sense. When I first saw this announced I was kinda meh about it but now maybe it’s coming across as the most useful and musical of all the glitchies.
Maybe the best pedal for your playing- so organic, such a great extension to an artist’s gesture.
I had no idea that playing dynamics were a huge part of the functionality of this pedal. Before, I thought it was completely random samples of the user. Great demo! Now I want one.
I can see this being a perfect always-on ambient pedal
from all the vids I've got the opposite impression: it needs to be carefully blended, and begs for midi control
WOW is right! As a designer, I’m SO REFRESHED at how this pedal has a strong opinion and focuses 10X in on just the kind of sound it’s good at. Every demo here was beautiful! (I think you were playing very well too. Feelin’ it!) but then it takes that narrow window of options and still lets you tweak and tune them to taste. I’m REALLY impressed by this. Someone try this pedal with accordion please; I bet it sounds otherworldly.
As an instrumentalist, I also always appreciate when something has a particular sound and OWNS it.
These chameleon pedals/synths just don’t inspire me at all. A weird pedal can get me going just like a weird guitar pickup or an odd-sounding sax neck.
@@kaitlyn__L this particular one is really hard to control in any way. and while it's focused, contrary to what Swampflux says, some of its knobs' range is also limited - SRR (and it sounds no good), Octave (just one octave up and down, could be a switch), filter (and hidden), etc.
@@yurijogurtsov8710 sure, I’m not currently looking to buy pedals so I’ve not looked into that. But ease of control is also very important to me - if a synth with four knobs and a screen sounds the same as one with 40 knobs or sliders, I’ll pay extra for the latter. But if the sound doesn’t grip me to begin with, then it’s irrelevant either way.
So it's like a noise gate but only for the effect? That's so rad.
Your playing is such an effective showcase for this. Thank you for your videos. I always really enjoy them.🐈
That slow octave bounce at the end is mesmerising.. Glad its really slow modulation.. something I wanted for the Mood 2..
mine arriving wednesday!!!!!!! havent been this excited for a pedal since Blooper came out
Really appreciated that you played a longer piece! Fast edits can be cool, but the first part was nice to really to get to listen what happens.
The improv choices and tones in this demo are second to none. Absolutely gorgeous stuff. Chase Bliss has added another entry into my "I have to get this or go broke trying" category
and like that you've written my favorite video game ost.
So so good!! Can’t wait for mine to show up this week. Chase Bliss have mastered the dynamic glitch with Onward!
ow gosh. Usually not a fan of those pedals.... butt !! this one OMG!!
Your playing makes it shine! Very beautiful.
Very nice ambient sounds and beautiful swells and shimmering. Good Harp, Ms. Emily...sounds killer! ❤
Glad i waited to watch this with headphones! What a soundscape!
Joel and Co. know how to make a cool pedal. This sounds amazing, so happy to have just received mine!
Gosh, I always want to improvise new elaborate melodies over the chord progressions you play 😊 thank you for leaving that room in these mixes
This is the best Onward review so far... It takes a real music nerd to get the best out of it, as you certainly did!
Emily, you “played” that pedal magnificently!
Emily, I bought the Cooper FX Outward when it first came out and it's been a fave; better than the Particle even. So I'd been on the fence about this one but you have pushed me over with this demo. Cheers to you.
- Harp (harmonica) Guy in Mpls.
Holy shit, that sounds amazing! This is definitely a harp pedal
I want to try this so bad with my Rhodes
Maaaaaan that sound with the bouncing octave is so good!!
This video could go up on the ASMR channel! I forgot I was listening to samples got the tingles. This is a GREAT pedal :O Incredible!
That Airplane sound is wild!!
The pedal is fantastic - but your playing on the harp is gorgeous. Love you Ems 👍
1:33 now THAT’s cool. Wish there was something like that for the drums.
Bonkers, Harp Lady! Your demos are always so informative and interesting!
Been waiting for a good demo on this pedal
Best demo of this pedal! Beautiful 🙌🏼
Was waiting for this! I love onward!
incredible sounding
That pedal is so freaking cool - great video - can't wait to get it and try it
So we're getting a whole album of this beautifulness riiight??
wow indeed! great job!
Im new to your amazing channel
This demo was seriously wonderful
That’s amazing. Probably worth the $400. Now I think I want one.
when will you be releasing your signature pedal chase bliss squidward?
love octave coming in and out, to cool
I'm waiting for the Chase Bliss Untoward
NEED
It looks like this pedal was designed for the harp. I've had my onward for a week and it's a gem with lots of instruments, but the harp is awesome with this pedal.
Came here for the demo, stayed for the playing 🎧💙
Alright, ok, so I need this pedal too
This may be the demo closest to what I want to do with it. Thanks!
Great video
Epic! Wondering what would it sound like with a piano!
Heck yeah sensitivity/threshold is one of the secret reasons (up til now) that I've used pedal envelope filters with velocity sensitive polysynths that have their own per-voice filters.
It would be nice to have that in a glitch looper, and I don't already have a microcosm. I'll have to see what they're charging. This one seems to sound good. There have been a couple others that interested me but failed my "sounds good" test. Not my favorite drive here, but not the worst. I like the "headroom saturation in stereo" sound I heard though.
That reminds me, I haven't done the pedal filter thing in a hot minute. I should bring them back out. I did it too much - I was using them on piano sounds for a while, before the intervention. Well, I think they were wrong - I think I could stop at just 2 pedals next time.
Going to combine both pedals in your next video? 😊 Please
I’m waiting for the Burtward pedal
Darn it would be great if the octave function allowed other intervals too!
I got mine a few days ago. I like the way it can be set to make sounds like there's a mandolin or cello following your playing, and soloing with you.
Would you agree with me that the instruction manual (field guide) was really well-written?
That's so awesome!
The Chase Bliss field guides are always SO well written, and this one was really good for sure!
What are your thoughts on this pedal comared to the mood
😍
Much chest. Such wow!
thanks Pedal Mommy!
Nice ❤ Maybe there’s tiny bit of Bjork vibe in this demo.
love my mood mkii so much but the only thing i wish it could do is more live overdubbing/reacting to my playing. seems like another $400 purchase is in order
Can’t believe I got this pedal before you got to demo it. Such an amazing pedal IMO.
me wanty
I do own 4 cba beauties, but I am not sure on this one. The freeze side is great, but 470 is a lot for this, I feel like. Mhhh.
That's a nice pedal. For the most part. Too many mask the Harp's true sound and not enhance it.
reminds me a lot of microcosm and that's not a bad thing.
Me likey
😮😮😮⚡️
Damn, my CD player is broken again - wait this is not coming from my CD player, is it???
Now they need a Wardward with an old graphic of Ward Cleaver.
Sorry, I'm confused a bit- from 5:45 to around 6:05 the error side of the pedal is being adjusted but the red light on the error side isn't on, as if that part of the pedal is turned off? But I'm new to CBA so I don't really know how it works!
All six knobs are adjusting parameters for both glitch and freeze. A few CB pedals have knobs that only correspond to certain sides of the effect, for example MOOD MKII but that’s not the case with Onward. I hope that’s helpful!
@@ryanworthley4555 you sure octave influences the glitch side? or size influences the sustain part? the reason why glitch works with the light off, is because the error knob is turned CW - the button itself only 'freezes' the current glitchy slice and repeats it until the new audio comes in.
@@yurijogurtsov8710 I’m sure! The size knob for freeze increases or decreases the length of the freeze buffer for the glitch side. True you can get some glitchy sounds with the freeze using the error knob though! The octave knob affects both channels. You can isolate what channels are affected by using the alt gestures though. I hope that’s helpful!
Just the intro sounds like you have scored some new video game or fantasy movie.
I need more money
Headphones!
Plini x Harp Lady collab when????
it literally happened and is coming soon. I can't say more right now
Still in love with you.
Damn they crank out pedals
🍓🎰🎱
outward and onward to UPWARD....word up?
I so wish Chase Bliss would put some of their algorithms into plugins. I don't want to deal with more pedals. These are some of the coolest sounds to me that you have found in pedals. The airplane one... geez.
You always make these pedals sound amazing but was definitely hoping to hear it through your Moog. Great review regardless
You need to stop this! Every time I look at your channel, you show us a new pedal and I want to buy it! I can't afford this!
Emily, when you gaze down at your pedal, are you an innie or an outie?
Would you actually be critical if there was something? Be honest!
Happy Canada day
No thanks. Im a happy ZOIA owner which can do most of what those new and revolutionary pedals do
It's not about whether another pedal can do something like this, but more about how different pedals with maybe similar stuff can make someone write differently. I can almost bet anyone with a zoia and anyone with onward, is going to write differently on both if you had a similar sound going on. Also I have had ZOIA since launch over 5 years ago, and I also have onward now, and to me both are amazing to have and I don't really get the feeling of zoia out of onward or vice versa.
Chase Bliss needs to stop! I only have to much money and my audio interface does not have infinite IO..
Would you ever consider doing a video comparing Mood and Onward? 🥹
there's a The Pedal Collaborative recent video doing just that. and know what? they manage to make them sound almost exactly the same. for both channels. shocking.
@@yurijogurtsov8710Did you get the Onward?I haven't pulled the trigger because of the overlap with Mood 2..
@@patrickr6505 not yet, I'm trying to understand whether it fits my particular use cases (non-guitar, midi-controlled, further resampled, used sparingly, crazy glitch per se avoided..)
Now we need a Chase Bliss Inward.
It'd have to be a really awesome reverse delay with bitcrushing.
@@jaenerysc😮my mind can't handle that
I need Chase Bliss Squidward.
Seaward?
I want a chase bliss awkward
