I always enjoy vocal coaches reaction to Marco's vocals... They expect Tarja and floor to have amazing voices but Marco is amazing in his own way... Nobody has ever voiced the phantom like Marco.
@@xMRxZEROx If you compare Tarja's career and Nightwish's career ( music ). You can see the difference between them. Tarja was and can be replaced. I don't think Tarja could be on the same level as Floor in current Nightwish. This is an impartial mind. Do not misunderstand. My first contact with the band was Nemo as a video. Wow. But that was a long time ago. Since that time I have followed Nightwish.Tuomas is master compositor. It has always been Tuomas. Not Tarja, Anette or Floor. Fresh (today) Nightwish th-cam.com/video/nWK7OeYlJFw/w-d-xo.html
@Big Bill O'Reilly Did I write that Tarja's solo career would have somehow failed?
I wrote : " If you compare Tarja's career and Nightwish's career ( music ). You can see the difference between them ". Right? I didn't write that Tarja was somehow unsuccessful. I wrote how different Nightwish and Tarja are in their musical style. I notice the exclamation marks and the words that you are a hardcore fan of Tarja. But could you take it more calmly when commenting? .... " A bit of a dullard! ".... I no longer have any comments to make. I think two opinions were sufficient.
Without Tarja NW would have been an unknown Finnish folk band...Tuomas has no special song writing skills...Many bands in that genre write great songs...With Tarja they prospered quickly due to her superb vocals...They struggled with Annette...Floor is disappointing to me because she is using but a fraction of her vocal potential..Her vocal energy was so much more robust with her former bands....Still love her stage presence though
In my honest opinion, this has gotta be the best performance across any genre, hands down. It just cuts through and gets into your noggin like nothing else I've heard before. They're both absolutely smashing, and the band? Well, they're clockwork tight. Cheers from Patagonia!
If you want to see Marco and Tarja in a duet, Slaying The Dreamer from the same End of an Era concert is the song you're looking for. I personally like to listen to opera arias so I'm a Tarjas era fan, although Floor and Nightwish are great combination.
But for a vocalist point of view, Slaying the Dreamer is a poor song. It doesn't offer much anything for Tarja's vocals. Most of the song is "sung" almost talking-fashion, more shouting than singing. The only good part for vocals in it is the staccato, and that's really not enough. Kick-ass song, but vocally nothing much to write home about.
In her solo career Tarja uses less operatic voice but still rocking..maybe you are interested in reacting to her solo performance, such as "Underneath" from her live DVD ACT 1 or "Falling Awake" MV. I appreciate Tarja hard work as an artist so she always improve herself, now she is also writes her own song.
This concert was the last time Marco and Tarja sang together (ad Tarja's last time on this stage) until they reconciled in 2017 for an Ave Maria at a Christmas concert. As for preferences, I love both Tarja and Floor, but I am a bigger fan of earlier Nightwish
her pronunciation of opera is precisely how everyone outside of US pronounces it...more Tarja please....you should hear her early full mezzo slpendor from the wishes to eternity concert....she doesn't get nearly as much attention as she richly deserves... i am a former army ranger and her exquisite voice brings me to tears each and every time...astounding
One reason I like Floor better is her accent is slight but Tarja is not. Floor pronounciation is more American sounding than Tarja. It's a minor thing but depends on your origin. I love both but Floor style and stage presence better. Floor will make old Nightwish songs sound great but in her own way. Tarja is a legend but comparison are dumb. She left 15 years ago.
@@jerrybk1 i loove Tarja's accent and Floor's and Simone's but its true, the Dutch have a somewhat cleaner pronunciation...Simone has a better one too...but can't agree with you on the stage presence issue...they are both very vibrant performers..just take a look at wishmaster, slaying the dreamer, kinslayer, nemo, end of all hope or a huge reserve of 9 years of her performance with NW and after
You know it's just a blessing to have both. I love Tarja but Floor is more versatile for me. I think Floor Ghost love score is better and unbelievable Poet and Petulum. She is just better for all sounds of metal but Tarja is amazing. The song Passion and Opera and her Phantom cannot be out done. Tarja has a great career now and lots of fans but Will always be remembered as a break through singer. Tuomas is the real genius in understanding the strengths of all Nightwish vocalists. The new album will be a big test for Floor since 2nd shot at forming the sound of band.
@@jerrybk1 actually i even liked Annete,...and while her live performances were cat times somewhat cringeworthy on other songs she did very well, adding her jazzy touch and stage presence..while Tuomas's songwriting prowess is without question, his rather dismissive and in Tarja's case vindictive conduct, towards the vocalists is very off putting...i do not believe that the new album shall be anything but a furtherance of Tuomas's personal vision for NW....Floor is a dynamo...i only wish Tuomas would put her beautiful classical delivery to a wider use...
Tarja's biggest flaw to me was always her pronunciation. She could keep it together better on studio albums, but when singing live her accent came out too much in my view, and pronunciation is part of singing skills. Marco had some earlier issues with that as well but has progressed a ton since then. As for the comparison of the singers they are all good in their way, but I do think with Floor they finally found a singer as dynamic as their music. Tuomas never planned on having opera vocals with Nightwish, which I guess partially explains why he chose Anette after Tarja as he probably wanted to explore new areas of musicality. With Floor he won't have to hold back in any regard and it will be interesting to see how the next album sounds as she said that he really challenged her with the new songs.
Tarja, 100%, all the way. That's how I found Nightwish, and it's how Nightwish should always sound. If you haven't already, check out some of their other earlier stuff. Some of my favorites are "Romanticide" and "End of All Hope".
I love both, but I like the version performed by Tarja and Nightwish more, because Tarja's opera voice is more powerful and dramatic, which is exactly what I miss in Floor's voice. I especially recommend listening to songs Slaying the dreamer, Planet hell, Wishmaster from a concert End of an Era and Dead boys poem, Deep silent complete, Walking in the air, Swanheart from the concert From Wishes to enternity. This is absolutely fantastic performance🎉🎸💥
When I see the performances, and you will see this in this one in particular, is there is a genuine chemistry between Tarja and Marco that is just was never there for Anette or Floor. You can see the fun they have together on the stage.
@@strikebr Floor has a decent classical voice..the one she used in that dinner theater performance was designed to impress the Dutch pop crowd, which is Floor's new goal which eventually will lead of to her jumping ship
i prefear the tarja version because she did more effort in a big stage like that (not in a close studio) with the a huge distorsion of the guitare she must be more louder and vocally more higher and that's what she did ... for my personal taste love the dark and deep operatic voice of tarja
Please understand the she has been experimenting with a number of mixed genres and I ,at first felt the same way but with a little time it really grew on me, but I was always more in love with her voice and delivery than the background ...With all the other bands I thoroughly enjoy the music as well
Tarja has flaws and weaknesses that not all metal fans initially noticed. NW made her sound good. After her resignation she has not reached the same level. Fans must settle for old records We all like to know what Tarja think about Floor !!! I hope that will end all trolling shit of every NW singer !!!
Tarja's English has a very heavy Finnish accent, and yes, she says "Opera" with a hard trill on the R. But I love the sound of it better as well, as it has a bit more gravitas to it. A bit more "Shakespearean". : )
You both noticing the pronounciation of "Opera" is because you are English speaking. I'm French speaking and we just pronounce it the same as "Finns"... and Italians. ;-)
This will always hold a special place. This song was my introduction to nightwish. Then I couldn't get enough. Then Tarja was out. They got Annette. An fell out with them. Then got to see Floor live in 2012. An fell through the trap door again. She has that "it" factor. That has taken nightwish from good to great band.
I love both . Tarja has a more operatic background, extensive study. And Floor gives new meaning to the term versatile. btw Marco is such a strong singer as well. In this concert he did an awesome cover, tribute to Pink Floyd, singing their song High Hopes, you’ll like it. 😀
Michal, your reaction to this performance is now my favorite. This was the first song I heard of Nightwish, I was watching a video of Linsey Sterling playing the Phantom of the Opera on violin. I saw this video to the right and clicked on it and it was the best cover of this song I had ever heard. I attended 2 Phantom of the Opera musicals. I listened to this several times and probably a year went by that I never went searching for other Nightwish songs for what ever reason. My second Nightwish video was Ghost Love Score 2013 Wacken. I was in disbelief, I had goosebumps, chills, hair standing on end and just in a state of awe of Floors' vocals. She even moved me to tears in a good way. She has become my all time favorite singer and Nightwish is the band I would most like to see live. I loved your reaction to Ghost Love Score, you had some similar analogies of others but you had several unique ones of your own. In fact yours is probably one of my favorites for that song. I enjoyed your reactions and you are quite beautiful with a lovely smile. That smile came through when listening and watching Nightwish performances. I look forward to watching some more of your reactions to Nightwish and perhaps some other ones. Thank you again Michal for your analogies and insightful reactions.
It is intresting to see whether this song gets back to setlist when Nightwish goes on tour next april. They will perform this song when they get to Amterdam and they will perform it with Henk. More interesting will be if Marko and Floor will perform this somewhere else, or is just for the Amsterdam shows. ... We'll just have to wait and see.
@@geuseliohulk8661 actually, though she doesn't deploy it much, nowadays, she has a well developed classical timbre even better honed than she uses on her pop show appearance..though quite different from Tarja
Finally! A reactor finally shows respect to Tarja instead of focusing on Floor. Thank you!! 🤟🏻😁 And Marco gets nowhere near enough credit too. Also, I pronounce her name as "Tar-zuh". May be wrong too. 😂
Tarja pronounces it Tariya...you can see her say it in the numerous interviews online...she, once, offered to have it phonetically tatooed on her forehead...
@@xeleelex146 Hahaha. Nice. I've heard her say it that way. Part of me figured it was just becuase of her accent it came out that way. Us Americans like to simplify things. 🤟🏻😂 But good to know regardless.
@@xMRxZEROx i am a huge Tarjaholic and seen just about every interview with the great one but the one i love the most is the one in which she is interviewed with an entire band at her side..in la Zilele Sfântu Gheorghe, fielding answering questions with a rather humorous , so down to earth manner and that super sexy accent..that Marcelo is one lucky stiff
@@xeleelex146 My word, yes. Tarja is a goddess. Insanely beautiful. Voice of an angel. She will forever be the true singer of Nightwish in my eyes. Floor doesn't hold a candle to here.
@@xMRxZEROx yah, and the sheer irony is that. as great as i ,too, find Tarja's voice and delivery, i was hoping Floor would be picked to replace Annete, seeing early on that she just did not quite fit their sound...and when they finally brought her in, i realized that there was a chance Tuomas would have her continue either with that good blend of classical/metallic or straight strong metallic delivery...but alas he progressively altered her style to what you generally hear as her main approach...but i still like her voice and stage presence enough to be somewhat interested....new NW fans love her, but when i compare her to her former self or Tarja, i miss the energy and power....
For me Tarja and Floor are both fantastic, and they both brought something special to Nighrwish in different ways. In fact I think all 5 of Nightwish's singers are great. Some of the harmonies that Floor, Marko and Troy give together in the live 2018 Decades concert are absolutely mind blowing. It is also interesting the Tarja and Floor are friends and have sung together on occasion (although not with Nightwish.)
this will always be my favorite nightwish version of this song. i just love how they play off of eachother and the chemistry they have. also i rly like how tarja pronouces "phantom". dunno why, i just think it sounds cool. also, if you wanna hear more of marko, you should check out "the islander". its my favorite nightwish song and he sings it. live @ tampere is the best
march on well I’m a non native English speaker from the same country as tarja and I don’t pronounce it like that and neither does anyone else I know. I think it’s just the way she pronounces it. Either way it sounds awesome
yah, the way Tarja delivered her songs was magical...you should hear her swanheart, dead boy's poem and walking in the air renditions..it will mesmerize you
Ghost Love Score End of An Era definitely. Everyone does the Floor version and kind of pushes Tarja aside. These reaction channels need to give Tarja more love and appreciation of what she brought to this band.
Although I don't listen to metal I did enjoy this song. I fully agree with at least one thing you said. I was really wanting to hear Tarja's ending and was truly disappointed when her voice was totally drowned out by Marco. It sounded like he was trying to compete with her instead of singing with her. Cheers, Steve
Ok, I don't know how deep down the Nightwish hole you want or plan to go, but you should really check out The Poet and the Pendulum live at Wembley. The song has a ton of backstory and meaning, but the very short story is this, Tuomas, the keyboard player, composer, and writer of most all of their music, was in a dark and depressed point of his life from dealing with media and fan backlash after firing Tarja. The song is sort of his metaphorical torture he felt but ultimately his decision to move forward and continue on with the band and his life. The song and composition is a true musical and lyrical masterpiece. It is also Floor at her absolute best in this performance. Warning though, there have recently been some reactions to it getting blocked. I'd recommend more frequent pauses.
Definitelly, when ever you like to listen to it, sooner or later (later on, you know more about how it came to this song's creation), but don't miss it... would be real pity for both you and us...
Hello Michal. Personally I loved Tarja, I didn't liked so much Anette for Nightwish (her solo career is cool) but I think she was needed, specially for Tuomas to take distance of the past days, and I definitely LOVE Floor. I think, that some people loses a little bit perspective, and seem no to like that bands can develop and evolve. The evolution of Nightwish is amazing, from the first albums with lot of thrash metal influence, then the Rage of Dark Passion Play , the Imaginaerum album where Tuomas breaks totally with the past (and probably one of the best albums regarding composition), and Endless Forms Most Beautifull with a more happy mood songs. Let see what Human : II : Nature brings, but I guess will be awesome. I love what they did, and what they do now. Just keep enjoying the ride ;)
Lol wait till you hear Annette the other singer for nightwish. Toumas writes songs for each voice, this is from the Tarja era, it was Annette's voice that drew me in to the world of nightwish then i heard Floor then curiosity brought me to Tarja. Which one is best? Depends on the song. Try sleeping sun for Tarja, Annette try meadows of heaven, Floor anything from the live at wakken 2013
I think all 3 Nightwish singers brought something to the table. Floor however I believe is the most versatile out of the bunch. Not to take anything away from any of them... but Tarja has a darker tone and her classical training is clearly evident in her singing. Anette has a lighter/brighter tone and is definitely more "pop" sounding. Floor has a nice warm tone and can do a nice mix of a variety of styles. Again not putting down any of the past singers. Anette sounded great in songs written for her, but her performing the older material was painful at times. Tarja is talented as well, but at times her classical style became a bit monotonous.
Oh, ballony, Anette wasn't a mistake. They used about year listening over 2000 singers, and took best ones to test sing with them the Dark Passion Play album's songs. According to Tuomas everyone in the band voted for Anette. They knew her well by the time they signed her up.
I love how people find space to make the argument that Tarja sounds monotonous because of her classical training, but NEVER complains about singers like Bruce in Iron Maiden, Jocke in Sabaton, Angela in Arch Enemy etc, who all specialize in one particular singing style, and quite frankly, are less versatile than Tarja. No, Tarja is too good and people want to criticise her to lift up Floor :p
@@FemaleMetalLover ok. I love how people can't accept criticism of their artists. What I offered was my opinion, and in doing so I didn't put down anyone... Infact I tried to give credit where credit is due. The subject at hand is Nightwish, and thus we're talking about the lead singers. If this were an overall discussion of other singers, bands, other genre's, etc...
This was the first video I ever saw of Nightwish. I was so impressed that I looked them up a day later to see this woman named "Floor" that people kept talking about, and I was a fan of floors for life! In this particular song, Marko stands out so much to me, because there are some points where he singing just as high as Tarja.
One question: why reactions with Tarja are with Nightwish ??? She has a solo career. It seems that even her fans forget. I love her version of the Scorpions song.
@@geuseliohulk8661 I guess Nightwish fans are more active with reaction videos. Pure Tarja fans are Tarja fans, but then there are old Nightwish fans like me, who really loved her in the Nightwish, but not so much of her solo work. I mean, it's not bad, some songs are actually very good, but it's not Nightwish, and something seems to be missing. But I have to confess, that I have listened her solo stuff way too lightly to give my final judgement. I really need to sit down some day, and fully concentrate.
@@oo.llpee.7457 Thanks for the answer. In my case, I like her solo career, and I didn't understand why Tarja's fans force this connection with Nightwish. It looks like a pathology. But your answer makes sense.
@@geuseliohulk8661 Tarja placed a solid foundation for NW with her superb vocals and put them on the map within just a few years of their existence..all the polls taken at the time showed that she was the main attraction for the fans...most of which are still well behind her....upon her dismissal a pandemonium erupted in Finland, setting off a snow storm of hate mail directed squarely at Tuomas
@@marchon2578 I understand the explanation for people from Finland. But Nightwish is an international band. I'm Brazilian and I don't see it that way. And for Finns, if they like Tarja, then they should ask for reactions from Tarja (solo career). Thank you for the explanation.
Don't forget Anette.... although she tends to place 3rd place for most fans, she did do a great job on the two albums she recorded with the band. Wouldn't mind an Anette reaction to represent all three Nightwish eras :)
Tarja classical career is really good after she went solo :) Its always funny to me to see her draw hardcore metal fans into a church listen to classical music. She and Tuomas (Nightwish songwriter) truly pioneered the opera/symphonic metal sound.
There is two videos you should check out one is Floor and Tarja together live at a recent show which was fun to watch. And a version of Dark Chest of Wonder which has all three singers do the singing in the video.
For myself, Tarja and Floor both are talented singers. I feel Tarja is more toward operatic thingy than Floor, but Floor got the rock / metal vibes than Tarja. They both have different power, charm, technique, etc. but honestly me myself wnjoy listening to any of em singin. Btw, glad to see u back Michal ^_^
Great reaction! 👍 I must say tho that it is funny how English speaking People often do not realize that many words do not originate in English such as Opera, scientific names etc which effect the pronounciation.
Thank you. I’ve always said Marco is the most “credible” male vocalist I’ve heard performing the role. Beste Zangers. Floor. Shallow. Please and thanks. 😊
To my knowledge, in most Europian countries the word opera it's pronunced just like they are doing here. I live in central Europe and I know that to be the truth about my contry and those near. Because we here all come from slavic roots, I think that is way they are saying opera like that, because it really sounds like that in our languages! Nice reaction, love it! :)
I appreciate both singers for their unique qualities. Tarja is more of an excellent wine for special occasions. Floor is more like an excellent gin for all occasions. A little pick me up, an exquisite cocktail or dance on the table kind of night, she can accomplish it all without a headache afterwards. :D In this particular case, I will always prefer this Tarja/Marko version, but based on your comment, I hope Marko will find it in him to perform this with Floor. Would love to hear this with two of them in this setting and see how they interact, though I think I read somewhere that Marko had some vocal cord surgery that didn't go well, so his abilities might have been impacted.
im not sure if its been mentioned further down in the comments, but I think one of the reasons why it seemed as if Marko was over singing Tarja at the end is because Tarja was sick with a bad flu when they performed this. Thats why she was so breathy and wasn't as loud.
Generally I prefer Floor's take on pretty much anything. But Tarja is a great singer, and this is her specialty. Floor did very well with this song, but Tarja owns it. This is where Tarja shines brightly.
You should react to Romanticide, Ever Dream(both from Wacken) and Yours Is An Empty Hope(Wembley). You really get to see Floors versatility in vocal styles there
I would add Devil & The Deep Dark Ocean from Buenos Aires to that list, since Floor shows off her ability to switch between vocal colours note-to-note in that song, with several verses having her switch vocal configurations 5+ times.
Yes! At last someone says that Marco sang over Tarja in the climax. Totally agree his vocals overwhelmed hers. But this is still my favorite cover/version of POTO.
Please react to "underneath", the studio version. This is one of the most beautiful Tarja Turunen's songs. It's from her solo career. I never saw anyone reacting to this. It is really a beautiful song, with a beautiful message. It's poetry. And we need poetry to warm our hearts in this quarantine.
Hi from west Jersey! o/ Marko has quite a versatile voice as well. Despite having had botched vocal chord surgery about a couple decades ago, he not only can put on this gruff vocal but he has a VERY sweet, clean vocal that belies his look, which can be heard in "The Islander," live at Tampere, Finland, as well as "While Your Lips Are Still Red" live from Wembley arena.
Loved your reaction. A fun fact - Tarja had a flu during the concert. Sleeping Sun, The Siren and Bless The Child were her other best performances. She sounded a little breathy in Nemo, Ghost Love Score and Wish I Had An Angel. Despite all of that, she kept her cool and wanted the show to continue. I love both her and Floor. 😎 Have a great day!
Tarja and Floor have very different approaches to this song. As you noted, Tarja uses operatic head voice almost exclusively, she diggs in everywehre with very little use of dynamics through the song, and she sings the crescendo as is usually done with an even volume but rising pitch, retaining a very open head resonance. Floor predominantly uses an operatic-like mixed voice, which gives her a much chestier resonance (which I personally love), Floor uses significant dynamics through the piece, she uses occansional flicks into other vocal configurations for embelishment, and Floor does the crescendo with rising volume and pitch, which trades away some of that open head resonance to be able to utterly blast the C6 and D6. Both approaches are executed very well, leaving it to a matter of personal taste which you prefer. Personally I prefer Floor's performance, and I think we're going to be in for a treat when we finally get to hear Floor perform it again with the full band and with more time to rehearse the song than she had on Beste Zangers.
that mediocre ..pop star pleasing, not opera but operetta style performance Floor gave and continues to give in her insane quest to gain currency with the mainstream crowd is very disaapointing...her voice in After Forever and Revamp was so much richer and fuller than today
@@marchon2578 You're simply factually incorrect here. One of the few aspects of vocal technique that Floor used to struggle with historically is dropping her larynx low enough to achieve great resonance and depth in operatic voice placements, particularly in her head voice. It was a common critique of her operatic style vocals, particularly in comparisons to Tarja. One of the main things she has clearly been working on very hard in the last couple of years is learning to lower her larynx to be able to add that depth and resonance to her operatic voice placements, as well as (selectively) in her belting. Her choice to try and start using mixed voice in that type of placement rather than pure head voice also, I think, reflects a desire on her part to get some of her excellent chest resonance into her operatic singing rather than relying entirely on her historically somewhat weaker head resonance. Are you sure it isn't her switch to predominantly using mixed voice in an operatic style placement versus using pure head voice in operatic placement (as she did in AF and ReVamp) that you're actually upset about? I could certainly understand if that's what you were upset about (though I personally disagree), but that's totally separate question from how much resonance and depth she has in her operatic style singing.
@@somedigitalist7681 i am afraid you are getting a bit too deep into the weeds, with this analysis...her current vocal style in NW, no doubt dictated by the Tuomas's ceaseless desire to rid NW of all vestiges of Tarja, and the horrific events he experience following her departure, ( superstorm of hate mail, near dissolution of NW and virtual self-directed ending to his own life) is but a shadow oh her former self with After Forever and even a few years into her stint with NW...wearing a tight, seductive, body stocking and using hair windmills is a poor substitute for using her former beautifully powerful mid to upper register classical metallic approach with flowing cadence but it appears to be working on the new NW fans....and if you look at her performance outside of NW ( though not with the pop crowd where the standards are so low that anything goes) she instantly reverts to her developed , resonating classical voice for which i adored her ...its encouraging though, to see her sneaking in, on occasion, some semblance of a classical sound and hopefully this will develop into a more resorted to trend in her forth going vocal technique...
Tarja was a beast... She has them pipes singing in perfect tune! Annette really had not shot at it, unfortunately... And then when Floor came along, it was like Nightwish is finally back again! And this seems to be the general consensus among us old Nightwish fans. Tarja is still the one and only original singer, but the band is back to sounding like it did. The thing with old Nightwish was that the band could go all song all out and Tarja had no issue being heard over it... And with Annette, this was lost and you can clearly hear the band essentially stop playing when she sang... And Annette basically couldn't do old Nightwish... She is a soprano as well as Tarja and Floor are, but that omph that Tarja had to knock it out of the park was missing... And now Tuomas and Nightwish can go on being Nightwish again with Floor having a voice that can be heard over the instrumentation... Tarja and Floor are very special singers... These people are few and far between. And we need to recognize this. Nightwish may have ended already if Floor hadn't come along...

Tarja era tracks have been originally written to opera singer though, and chest/mix voice does not always work with them. Even though Floor is capable of singing opera she seems to prefer chest over head voice. I love how she has made GLS totally her own, but some of the tracks still sound better as original version. I usually prefer Floor with Nightwish, but I think this version of the phantom of the Opera is better than Floor's version at best zanger. את ישראלית? 🙂
Floor brings new angles to many old Nighwish songs that could have used a bit more pop/rock spiced in when originally recorded, but this is one of the songs where Tarja just wins. Of course, it's hard to separate Marko's influence on making this so epic because Marko has not sung this with anyone else. They had such a connection here and he wanted to honor it. There are some other Nighwish songs where Tarja holds an edge. Quote often her problem was being a diva and ice queen, so she would not really *feel* and live the lyrics the way Floor does. Floor allows herself to be playful and seductive and whatnot when the song needs it. But the tension between Tuomas and Tarja might have played a role here, too.
In the Floor vs Tarja debate, I wanna hear a few duets from them, namely I thought of a way of splitting the newer song elan up that I think would be amazing with them both on it
thats what i have been saying for 16 years...then, i met and hugged her realizing (for about an hour) that she is flesh and bones...then i heard her sing again and she went back to being otherworldly....
I honestly never listened to live stuff until Floor. She's so good live. I have Anette's albums and never even thought of her as a bad singer, until I tried to listen to some of her live stuff.... At least the albums are good!
Anette even more than Tarja suffered from the intense pace of gigs (5 to 6 gigs in a week). If you listen for example Hamburg and Montreux concert the same year, she has vocal problems in Montreux. Hamburg full concert th-cam.com/video/e2BfYix0ssg/w-d-xo.html. Unfortunately reaction channel people often use Anette's Wacken performance of "Ever Dream" where she didn't sing it soft and relaxed, which she could do already before joining Nightwish, as one can hear in her demo tape for Nightwish, and then Colmar 2012 concert, where she sings the song same soft fashion: Ever Dream demo th-cam.com/video/VSTJXSBlfmY/w-d-xo.html and Colmar 2012 th-cam.com/video/AHjODzOSQ8k/w-d-xo.html.
according to YT vocal coaches and fans Nightwish is a great vocal area...but I always have in my head ... Scream of Chuck Schuldiner of Death, it's something more
There are two Nightwish songs that I think stands out when it comes to Floor really making the listeners feel her. You should try them: The first one is the longer "The poet and the Pendulum" It's a rollercoaster of emotions where you go from a really good empowered feeling to trying holding your tears back during her beautiful singing. The second one is the shorter "Dead boy's poem". It's beautiful from start to ending. Since the new live version came out, that is one of my top 3 favourites (together with the song mentioned above).
It's interesting to see interaction between Marko and Tarja in this performance: everybody in the band but Tarja knows that Tarja is going to be kicked from the band after this performance, and Tarja has no idea about what's going to happen. (And I intentionally keep writing Marko with the k because that's his real name even though he uses Marco internationally to get English speaking people to pronounce his name closer to correct.)
I love Tarja in this performance so much more. Her operatic vocal was much superior. From this concert, u may listen to planet hell , dark chest of wonder and kinslayer. That's the vibe similar to phantom of the Opera.
Even Andrew Lloyd Webber agrees this performance is the best cover of phantom ever made so yeah, I absolutely agree with that. Tarjas voice made Nightwish unique and started a new genre of music that was magical, that magic was lost when they fired the mesmerizing vocalist and cofounder of Nightwish Tarja Turunen over petty nonsense and especially in the way they did it. Luckily we can now once again enjoy the duet of Marko and Tarja after he left the band since they are now touring together as solo artists. Floor is great don't get me wrong, but Tarja was pure magic for a lot of us who love metal music, the combination of the dark and heavy music composition with the beauty of Tarja and her classically trained voice is unmatched, many have tried but nobody comes close to this level of magic.
I think you might enjoy listening band called Northern Kings, its group compiled of some of the most legendary nordic/scandinavian heavy metal singers including Marko =)
I Love both of Floor’s versions, but I also love this one because you get the full personality of the band as well! I also miss Marco’s ending when I don’t hear it. “ ALL RIGHT!”🎸🤘
I always enjoy vocal coaches reaction to Marco's vocals... They expect Tarja and floor to have amazing voices but Marco is amazing in his own way... Nobody has ever voiced the phantom like Marco.
Indeed!
@@Aurinkohirvi Marco is great, but so is Fabio Leone and Diego Valdez ..both did a duet with Tarja in her solo career
theres one: Eric Adams ;)
Russal Allen did one with Floor
Diego Valdez is just funny. That whole performance, including the stick swirling drummer, could be a... ah well, it's all rock 'n roll I guess :)
Tarja has so much power in her voice! This will always be my favorite version.
I will always prefer Tarja and Marco for this song.
I prefer Tarja period. Floor is good. But Tarja is who made me love Nightwish.

If you compare Tarja's career and Nightwish's career ( music ). You can see the difference between them. Tarja was and can be replaced. I don't think Tarja could be on the same level as
Floor in current Nightwish.
@Big Bill O'Reilly
Did I write that Tarja's solo career would have somehow failed?
React to The Siren in this concert or I wish I had an angel
My favorite version ever!!! Tarja sing amazing
its like a cold mountain stream sparkling in the sun with its rich tonal tapestry
This link's video will disagree with your statement, sorry.

i prefear the tarja version because she did more effort in a big stage like that (not in a close studio) with the a huge distorsion of the guitare she must be more louder and vocally more higher and that's what she did ... for my personal taste love the dark and deep operatic voice of tarja

React to Nightwish , The Islander live at Tampere. Marco sings this one solo and it's beautiful.
Not entirely solo, Floor comes in with some backing vocals towards the end but he is indeed the lead singer on that song
I'm French speaking and we just pronounce it the same as "Finns"... and Italians. ;-)
actually her R is very soft in this if you compare it to how Finn's pronounce R.
@@trokoshea1 I agree! Her pronunciation of the "r" sounds completely natural to me!

Sometimes her voice sounds so beautiful. So I’m not surprised that people start crying.
I do prefer definitely this version over any other as its most powerful one, which really causing me goosebumps (unlike the others).
If you're interested in hearing Marco sing in a more relaxed way I can recommend Nightwish - The Islander (Live At Tampere).
I prefer Floor not to sing with Marco. Floor is my favorite, but this song should have Tarja's voice with Marco.
doubtful, Tuomas doesn't want any memory of Tarja surfacing and the song calls for an operatic delivery...

I gotta also say that Henk used the distortion for the first time he sang Sound of Silence to Floor. The Phantom performance was the second one ;)
Great reaction and narrative. You are right, I have never heard the Phantom sing over Christine's final note, but hey.. It's NightWish !!
You should react to Everdream from Wacken 2013. Its huge and showcases Floor and the band. Actually anything from that concert is worth it.

Please react to Ghost Love Score and Slaying The Dreamer from end of an era with Tarja. Both are amazing performances!
Ghost Love Score End of An Era definitely. Everyone does the Floor version and kind of pushes Tarja aside. These reaction channels need to give Tarja more love and appreciation of what she brought to this band.
absolutely..Tarja's tear provoking voice is just so smooth and beautifully blends in with the chorus and the violins...even Tuomas was swooning to it
Although I don't listen to metal I did enjoy this song.
Definitelly, when ever you like to listen to it, sooner or later (later on, you know more about how it came to this song's creation), but don't miss it... would be real pity for both you and us...
boy , did he go through a rough time...much more bleak than he anticipated
Nope, Anette was just a mistake. But Tarja and Floor are true goddess.
But I have to confess, that I have listened her solo stuff way too lightly to give my final judgement. I really need to sit down some day, and fully concentrate.

Tarja classical career is really good after she went solo :) Its always funny to me to see her draw hardcore metal fans into a church listen to classical music. She and Tuomas (Nightwish songwriter) truly pioneered the opera/symphonic metal sound.
she was the main attraction when she sang with NW
There is two videos you should check out one is Floor and Tarja together live at a recent show which was fun to watch. And a version of Dark Chest of Wonder which has all three singers do the singing in the video.

you should take a listen to The Islander -live from Tampere. Marco takes the lead and it is very folky and different for NW.
Marco def stepped on Tarja's part there at the end
But it worked good.
I will never mind Marco stepping into anything! 😂 He is amazing
Combination in the end was perfect
Love this women and this channel i just discovered you in poets of the fall reaction song much love
I appreciate both singers for their unique qualities. Tarja is more of an excellent wine for special occasions. Floor is more like an excellent gin for all occasions. A little pick me up, an exquisite cocktail or dance on the table kind of night, she can accomplish it all without a headache afterwards. :D
In this particular case, I will always prefer this Tarja/Marko version, but based on your comment, I hope Marko will find it in him to perform this with Floor. Would love to hear this with two of them in this setting and see how they interact, though I think I read somewhere that Marko had some vocal cord surgery that didn't go well, so his abilities might have been impacted.
Great review! I agree with everything you said ! 👍
That was the best react i ever heard thank you :)
I have to recommend the legendary 'Sleeping Sun' from them, one of the best metal songs I ever heard.
Actually i though the same thing why marco sings over her, should have heard Tarja finish the song to really hear her voice
yah, Marco was just overdoing it a touch
Marko is just being Marko, and it's up to the sound engineers to determine line levels.
im not sure if its been mentioned further down in the comments, but I think one of the reasons why it seemed as if Marko was over singing Tarja at the end is because Tarja was sick with a bad flu when they performed this. Thats why she was so breathy and wasn't as loud.
Amazing Tarja ❤
Fine Show Work🔥👌, Big Like 🎶,
I thought this was an excellent and balanced reaction/critique of that version of Phantom.
Moi from the land of the Nightwish , you said Tarjas name very well. Tarja is of cource the nro 1 vocalist of the Nightwish.. others come after ;)
Tarja and Floor have very different approaches to this song.
I fully agree 🙏🏼
Preach!!
Most accurate description here.
that mediocre ..pop star pleasing, not opera but operetta style performance Floor gave and continues to give in her insane quest to gain currency with the mainstream crowd is very disaapointing...her voice in After Forever and Revamp was so much richer and fuller than today
Thank you for the comments regarding Poort. So many people get all over me when I say I didn't care for his performance.
Tarja is a literal Siren....a voice so rich and hypnotic
Why is there a competition between the two singers, they a both fabulous in their own way's
Try "Over the Hills and Far Away" from this show.
Could you react to Fabio Lione from Rhapsody, "Lamento Eroico", live in Montreal, Canada. Please!!!! Thank you. I really enjoy your reaction.
one of my favorite vocalist...check him out doing a duet of phantom with Tarja
now, we are talking substance...Fabio is superb..or anything from the current vocalist from the ascending to infinity or the prometheus album with Alessandro Conti
@@corections5068 Fabio is one of the most versatil metal singer from 2000 forward. And also one of the best narrator. And de liric touch that him put in every old Rhapsody´s song was amazing.
@@chumyto31 absolutely..he, Russel Allen and Alessandro Conti are tops in my book
Depuis que j'ai vraiment écouté du rock avec de la grande musique opéra je suis vraiment plus pareil, j'oublie mais problème de santé, et vraiment aussi pour ma femme et mon fils que j'ai jamais connu please, j'oublie tout. Arrow 54 , France please.
Please react to "Slaying the dreamer" from End of an era
I love both versions. I prefer Floor and Henk's ending because it's only Floor's voice. In the Tarja one, her voice got drowned out by the music and by Marco.
Nice reaction and good analysis Michal (I like your hoodie too). Out of interest, you could check these Tarja era tracks:
- "Dark Chest of Wonders" th-cam.com/video/ROdKrGVVuI8/w-d-xo.html
- "Wishmaster" th-cam.com/video/eJTlH521E6w/w-d-xo.html
- "End of all Hope" th-cam.com/video/ESlyjQl90p0/w-d-xo.html
- "Beauty of the Beast" th-cam.com/video/lwerko8X_aU/w-d-xo.html
- "Sleeping Sun" th-cam.com/video/UGfKMV5AbMI/w-d-xo.html
...as you said Tarja's singing style leans more into opera, while Floor is all-round vocalist. Tarja era tracks have been originally written to opera singer though, and chest/mix voice does not always work with them. Even though Floor is capable of singing opera she seems to prefer chest over head voice. I love how she has made GLS totally her own, but some of the tracks still sound better as original version. I love both singers, but I totally agree with the fact Floor is perfect fit for Nightwish. But anyway, it's time to move on, here's what Tarja & Floor have been up to lately:
- Tarja: Supremacy (Woodstock live) th-cam.com/video/e5zEb5xFlIE/w-d-xo.html
- Nightwish: Noise th-cam.com/video/LczGSoibRe8/w-d-xo.html
I usually prefer Floor with Nightwish, but I think this version of the phantom of the Opera is better than Floor's version at best zanger.
את ישראלית? 🙂
No wayyyy 😄
Lmao. Nope.
In the Floor vs Tarja debate, I wanna hear a few duets from them, namely I thought of a way of splitting the newer song elan up that I think would be amazing with them both on it
sounds interesting..they get along gloriously and can adjust their vocals to compliment each other...
No worries Michal. You got it correct Taryah.
kudos to all the folks who can appreciate a superb talent and to the 44 who voted it down..get help
Tarja is the one and only God of metal. Tarja is so amazing and can’t sweat it enough she’s just so GOOD LIKE WTF. Tarja is no human. I love Tarja ❤️
thats what i have been saying for 16 years...then, i met and hugged her realizing (for about an hour) that she is flesh and bones...then i heard her sing again and she went back to being otherworldly....
Tarja had glamour and style that made the band. To me it died when she left.
Take a look at Marco singing High Hopes. To understand why Marco appeared to be "singing over" Tarja you must know the lyrics.
Thanks!! More tarja please! Victim of ritual or supremacy (cover) in Woodstock!
Great reaction! Though i really like Marko singing at the end. For me it makes it even better 👏
I like Tarja’s voice on the albums. I much prefer Floor live, but my favorite album songs are Anette’s. I guess I love them all.
I honestly never listened to live stuff until Floor. She's so good live. I have Anette's albums and never even thought of her as a bad singer, until I tried to listen to some of her live stuff.... At least the albums are good!
@@pmasher Yes that about sums it...
You should try them:
The first one is the longer "The poet and the Pendulum" It's a rollercoaster of emotions where you go from a really good empowered feeling to trying holding your tears back during her beautiful singing.
The second one is the shorter "Dead boy's poem". It's beautiful from start to ending. Since the new live version came out, that is one of my top 3 favourites (together with the song mentioned above).
both Tarja's version and Floor's are rather good..Tarja's more flowing and operatic and Floor's more sweet and warm...
Epica with Floor - Sancta terra live from Retrospect, and Nightwish - Elan live Buenos Aires 2018.
“ ALL RIGHT!”🎸🤘
Epica-sancta Terra featuring Floor live. Great duet!
Agreement on all points.
i love your hoodie
All right!!!!!!
