September 25, 2020 - Dr. Maika's Parent Message

During the summer and most recently this week, I have had numerous conversations with teachers and campus administrators. A common thread that comes up when I speak with teachers is you - the parents.
Teachers tell me that your patience, understanding and collaboration over the past few months have made the start of the school year a success. Campus staff tell me that you have been instrumental in the successful return of more students during Phase 2. We see that you have had discussions about health protocols because at school your children wear masks, social distance and wash hands.
At home, virtual learning succeeds because of the support and encouragement that your children receive from you. Teachers have said that you communicating with them is key to both virtual and in-person learning.
Finally, I would like to thank the businesses and community leaders who are participating in the
North East Educational Foundation’s 15th annual golf tournament as you watch this. With masks, temperature checks, hand sanitizers, disinfected carts and sanitation stations along the course - the tournament is generating funds that will benefit our students.
Last month, the Foundation awarded 41 North East teachers grants totaling $310,000, and an additional 100 new teachers received supply grants totaling $20,000. The golf tournament is just one way the Foundation raises funds that make their way into our classrooms.
