  • In this episode of "Notes on a Scene," Bradley Cooper and director Guillermo del Toro break down the scene where Stanton Carlisle (Bradley Cooper) is on a manhunt at the carnival for a wild man that has escaped capture. Cooper and Del Toro explain how they built up the complexity of this scene by layering mazes and labyrinth-like funhouse elements while highlighting visual premonitions that appear throughout the film.

It's so sad that these films don't make money, it's so cruel that films by great directors like del Toro, Spielberg, PTA, Ridley Scott, Wes Anderson, Edgar Wright, Eastwood, etc. don't do well at the box office. When the studios stop giving them budgets, then cinema will really die. But the great news is that as streaming services make movies like Scorsese's, Jane Campion's and Adam McKay's, they are giving money to art houses and original films that may or may not be a hit. Maybe Netflix and Apple are the future of cinema, I don't know what the future of theatre will be, but at least they are giving a chance to films that other big studios are no longer making.

We need to appreciate creative people like Guillermo more. Especially in today's wold that is dominated by franchise movies and remakes.

The final 5 minutes of the movie, Bradley absolutely topped his performance.
What we really liked about the movie that at the excact point we wondered how long the movie would take, the ball started rolling so to speak... . A must watch !

Definitely a beautiful film and great performances by Bradley and co. Definitely one that you have to be relaxed for and ready for a bit of a slow burn but worth it. The end was a bit predictable but it was nonetheless enjoyable seeing how it got there. Recommend it.

A wonderful movie. So beautifully, artfully visual. The psychoanalyst's office , for instance, is beyond attractive. Go see it. A masterpiece. Go on. Compare to the Tyrone Power film. Then comment.

*_GdT was talking about he "was finishing Nightmare Alley for Netflix", this was after the movie had had it's premiere?_*
_What was he talking about? Was GdT overseeing an edit of a longer version for Netflix?_
_Is there a planned release date for Nightmare Alley on Netflix?_

It rendered well one of the most underrated novels in literature of all time. I loved Gresham's novel to the point of enduring a night in the disastrous hotel where he wrote it and where he later committed suicide.
