You can say that again. Look at a map of Ireland’s rail network back in the 1920’s we had 100’s of 100’s of kilometres of rail. Now look, half of the lost lines are buried under vegetation and stations are abandoned, I fucking rage inside when I see all that Just think of what it can be used for today. Hate this government and the rail network
I remember so well that wonderful station and the lifeline it gave to Tuam. It was a a great source of transport for human, animal, vegetable and mineral. Alas, due to short-sighted government it was withdrawn. Now all we have are memories of that golden age. What a shame!
While we May all blame the government for closures, many of the lines were not viable in any way, such as the Clifden route. Though it still is a disgrace that the Mullingar to Athlone, Waterford to Wexford, Youghal, WRC, Derry Road, Foynes, and Kingscourt lines all shut, as they were all profitable. All the greenways trying to permanently take the trackbed aren’t great either.
My home town of Tuam decimated by nonstop closures between the 80s and the 90s.
Thanks for letting me know! I wonder what happens to ‘staffs’ when they close the line. Nice souvenir.
They end up in personal collections. One of the best in country is on display in Hells Kitchen museum in Castlerea.
Fantastic Footage!😃.
What exactly is a block post?
It’s a station where a token called a staff is exchanged with the train driver which ensures the train safely enter the next section.
What a sad day to see the stupid things that IE and our government did. Absolutely disgraceful

@@Drumm3rB0y Things do tend to change in 100 years though...
