OSHO: Meditation Needs No Technique

  • IS IT POSSIBLE TO MEDITATE WITHOUT ANY TECHNIQUE?
"...the question you have asked is certainly of great importance because meditation, as such, needs no technique at all. But techniques are needed to remove the obstacles in the way of meditation. So it has to be understood very clearly: meditation itself needs no techniques, it is a simple understanding, an alertness, an awareness. Neither alertness is a technique, nor awareness is a technique." Osho

    Osho's method of meditation:
    1. Observe the body and all the little things going on with it
    2. Observe the mind and all the thoughts patterns, as you observe your thoughts you will notice them start to dissappear
    3. Observe your feelings and emotions watch them come and go, like watching them on a TV screen
The 4th step happens on its own accord. Now you may expand your awareness.

    Simple and superb.
Steps to live in present suggested by Osho.
    1. While walking or whatever you do totally aware of that. Ex. While bathing feel only that chillness. Don't think other things.
    2. Observe you belly movements while sitting or doing other activities..
    3. Observe the breathe in the tip of the nose which is going inside and coming out.
This will help you to stay in present and stops the mind which wander always. God bless..

I have recently started samatha and vipassana. And I have realised that every meditation session does feel like an adventure. Initially I couldn’t sit for long but now it’s possible for me to sit for as long as an hour or so.
It’s like going on a journey somewhere far. It feels exciting and you can never know what feelings or what experiences you will have.
I think in this lockdown it’s a far to go somewhere without going anywhere.

This is beautiful, what you are saying, and I too agree. This is actually how I view god. In fact I personally enjoy "Krishna" as the image in which I place god. But I dont see Krishna as my master who asks of praise from me. But I simply see him as a spiritual friend and companion. Someone who I can come to for help, or guidance. As I feel that we as humans, share qualities with gods. And that they sort of incarnate their qualities through us. As OSHO would call it "Godliness" as we all come from one source.

Meditation is awareness on the presence of being. Nothing else. Remain as that. Thoughts will come and go. You remain as that which perceives because whatever is perceived, is not you. Don't try looking for the perceiver. What you are looking for is where you are already looking from.

I tend to observe whatever comes in and out of awareness.
Sometimes the movement of cranial nerves are prominent.
Sometimes it is the movement of the breath in the belly that is prominent.
Sometimes it is the movement of the breath within the nose that is prominent.
Sometimes it is certain bodily sensations that are prominent. Sometimes it sounds tickling the ears that are prominent.
I am a sensationalist, so it is usually something about the body that becomes prominent.
The important thing is to not become mechanical in the process. Every moment is new.

Actually you just sit and watch your thoughts in non attachment to them, eventually you will reach states of no mind, and that's where stuff happens. No technique, just sit and raise yourself above mind, where there is no mind, there is no evil.

You not wrong but you're also not getting the full picture. For a normal person with YEARS of conditioning, their thoughts take control of them far too easily for the "sitting and observing" alone. That is why, as he said, technique helps to settle the waters. These techniques are not meditation, they help prepare for it. For a person who has a knack for meditation and who has not been conditioned in their egoic way of thinking, it is as simple as sitting and observing.

Do not get me wrong i love him, he speaks straight from the heart . He has been in nirvana for too long. That is why he is not helping. It is simple . In his view meditation starts after awaiking when reaching nirvana-being undisturbed, watchful... What he does not talk about is the technique which is about fighting a war with yourself (grasping your mind and seeing futility of it and surrendering -for reassurance you reapit it many times the same process finlly you give up... The road to enlightenment is hectic and unpleasent and the gates are very well guarded.

    • @garypuckettmuse
      @garypuckettmuse 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Yes. This is why not many take the trip. That's why in places like Tibet they get the children when their minds are still tabla rasa, take them from the neuroses of the home, etc. Most people who really
go for enlightenment are driven to it the rest just chat about it pleasantly. It's not pleasant at all to
come to terms with the whole of yourself because you must deconstruct your entire personality in
order to really let go of it. You think you are letting go and it's like an onion, there is always another
layer to drop. Surrender is a very shocking experience and, true, one keeps running back for cover
unless what there is to tun back to is so awful, so unbearable, surrender is not terrifying it is a
total relief. That's when the magic happens. I've gone over to the other side a few times and I
so wish I could have stayed their. It's like people who have NDE's -- they don['t know what drives
them back when they don't want to come -- it's below the conscious level. Best of luck to you. I hear you.

Ahem... If I may humbly add...Go to a river bank and sit under a shady tree. And just WATCH...Just WATCH... The river flows by...With NO JUDGEMENTS... Just watch and keep watch as long as possible... And just now, U'll notice a leaf coming floating by...now see what colour is the leaf...then see the shape of the leaf...look around U. What do U see...? What do U smell... Smell the grass around U...become aware of the water flowing by...sense its wetness...This is often my meditation...with my eyes closed...For me at times my meditation lasts 5minites to an hour or so on... Cos, Master Osho is saying, anything and everything can become a meditation...looking around U what in the world, what isn't and what hasn't been created by the mind...? The mind will go on forever and ever...The question U'll have to find is.? "Where does the mind end and where does the mind begin." So in between the end and beginning of the mind...is total awareness...It's total liberation... It's a place U can automatically find yourself...without much to do...this the purpose of meditation... Blessings and Love to U all...

Oh come one.. JK always talked about the mind, to understand it like being in front of a mirror and various techniques that we much go through to achieve it!
    P. S. Both of these are exceptional 🙌

    • @garypuckettmuse
      @garypuckettmuse 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

my favorite technique of JK was "empty the whole content of consciousness" by which he meant just do it that very instant. No dawdling about being intellectual and neurotic about it. Nisargadatta said "throw your personality overboard." There is no time, time is a construct. There is only this moment so of course all possibilities are available in the only instant there is. Be radical. Shiva destroys and recreates all universes with every beat of his drum. May all beings be free.

Just for one moment, if U can find love for yourself, a deep inner appreciation of Self. Then your meditation flows from within and without U. U share your meditative state to the Universe, Within and without U your presence of being. As there some Gurus India who can just walk past U or be in your near presence. Whereby U just drop off into a deep meditative state. Without saying anything or doing anything...😊. They just pass on their Shakti...

The point is not to meditate but to be meditative...that is what is meant by being Zen
"The word Zen is derived from the Japanese pronunciation (kana: ぜん) of the Middle Chinese word 禪 (Middle Chinese: [dʑian]; pinyin: Chán), which in turn is derived from the Sanskrit word dhyāna (ध्यान), which can be approximately translated as "contemplation", "absorption", or "meditative state".
