I'm trying to fix the side of my top set of steps leading to my front porch. Is there any way I can take a pic and send it to you so I can get a basic idea how to do it and what to buy?
Hi. Can build stairs over old sunken stairs? I need to bring everything up 10” so the old broken concrete stairs would be under… would save me the clean up if it stays under. Thanks
You can attach new concrete to old concrete, but it requires some extra steps: 1) Clean the old concrete real good, preferably with an angle grinder with wire brush. 2) Use a primer. Either a premade one from a reputable bran, or use a thin mixture of pure cement and water, that you apply with a brush just before pooring the new concrete. 3) poor the new concrete. But if the old stairs have sunken, will the new ones not also sink again. Maybe better to remove the old stairs, and create a proper foundation before you get into an endless cycle of topping up the stairs again and again.
Your arbitrary reference to # 12 ("being a good number") is perplexing. There are lots of good numbers as you said. So please explain why you chose 12. If you did the exercise first and found that 12 was the most appropriate number you should start with, that's fine , just say so. If not, can you please send me next week's lottery draw numbers.
Next weeks numbers will be between 1 and 100:) as far as the number 12, I probably measured it from my scaled drawing to provide viewers with a good average number to start with.
Why dig out to a flat surface vs stair stepping the soil? Your way seems to use nearly 2x the concrete than stair stepping the soil underneath the concrete stairs ???
This is a veeeeery helpful video we’ll explained. Thank you for the video
You're very welcome!
Hello I wanted thank you su much for this important video !!!

Perfect 👌🙏
Thank you 🙌
How to do these measurements when you are putting steps between two walls? And how to figure out the form?

Can you please make a video where the treads have to be 12 inches? I’m
In NY & we can’t have treads smaller than 12 inches and 8 inches high/riser
I have in the past, but will try to throw a few more in here and there in the future.

He wants 7 inches of rise
He chooses any number until his division reaches near 7. then he massages
@@geekonomist Thank you for explaining that for everybody.
How did you know it was 12 before you divided the riser height into the length?
How do you know what kind of lumber to us for guide board?
I would think treated, but it will depend on your weather. Contact a local lumber yard for more suggestions.

I would think your method would work, but 2 time the concrete, maybe recalculate the amount???
this is the equation from math textbooks... in real life you almost never see such things.
