Chanel Egoiste is my all time favourite!! And what i would call my signature scent! I have many perfumes and many in my regular rotation, maybe also fragrances which i wear more often, but nothing comes nearly close to the place Egoiste have in my heart.
Precise and quite detailed description of these two versions of Chanel Egoiste fragrance. To my nose Platinum Egoiste is thin, metallic foil like that opens refreshingly but I can't stand after a while. Original Egoiste is surely not what it was when it firs appeared but I still find that interplay between fruity-woody-creamy notes irresistible !
Platinum Egoiste is a fantastic scent!!! One of the best compliments I have ever received was with this fragrance. I walked into a building and a woman told me: "You can't walk in here smelling sooooo good!":))) This fragrance is indeed amazing👍👍👍
Platinum Egoiste was Chanels answer to CK’s eternity. It took Popge and Demachy a collaboration in order to create what I call Chanels ultimate Gem. It smells niche, it smells ahead of modern fragrances, it has the same Vetiver as Sycomore. This is sophisticated for every season. Chanel was after CK’s success with Obsession in 1986 so much that their came up with Bois Noir Aka Egoiste but sadly they couldn’t match Obsessions success therefore slowly started losing popularity. Egoiste and Platinum IMO leave the overrated Allure homme sport, and extreme way behind.
Comparisons are great since and having two noses in on it is even better. Anything with the two of you in it is going to be informative and very fun to watch!
Finally years later I ordered Egoiste to round off my collection. Wow, what a great fragrance. This is very woodsy n classic. I only wish they sold it like they do the Platinum. I can’t say I like one over the other because they are so different. I’d use platinum in the warmer months and the original in the colder months.. thank you for your review as it swayed me to seek these classics out. Definitely worth their price!!!

That being said, i don't entirely dislike the perfume itself, but i would never buy it, because to me PE is more than a fragrance, it's a symbol of marketing taking over artistry. The creation of Chanel Platinum Egoiste represents a sad turning point in Chanel's perfume making history, since it was the first time Chanel relied of test groups of consumers to help develop a fragrance rather than relying solely on Master Polge's creativity and blending skills. It sets the precise moment Chanel stopped being a trendsetting House to become a market following one. On the other hand, Chanel Egoiste is masculine elegance personified, a brooding full bodied sandalwood, rose and carnation concoction. Simply stunning!
Platinum Egoiste was my signature before my fragrance journey begun. When i smelled it the first time in my youth I just fallen in love with it and it was and is my holy grail fragrance but its not what it used to be since 2015! I need to get A vintage one!

I never got cucumber scent until I watched this, I can absolutely see how someone might get that impression. Metallic and watery with a bit of zing, platinum is a very nice fragrance I’m glad to have in my collection.
I love Platinum and I want to try out Egoiste. Platinum is for a man who is confident but also laid back, sexy and cool. The metallic part of it is why it smells so good to me. It smells kind of like money (bills mixed with silver coins) in your pocket...lol. The lavender/rosemary notes mix with that. A business man is perfect for this scent. I never get tired of the smell of Platinum. I could smell it all day as the dry down (older bottles are all I've smelled) is amazing. That dry down is nostalgic. I actually want the body wash to Platinum...lol.
Platinum Egoiste. The pre Reform version is amongst the best fragrances ever made imo. There is a wonderful little known copy made by Arabian Oud called Gentlemen Secret , it is very close to the pre reformulation.
Dahlia can’t imagine who would wear Platinum Egoiste? I do! I think of it as the PERFECT classy business fragrance. Exudes clean, powerful vibes… like you have your sh*t together and literally mean business.
Egoiste is more sophisticated more matured and platinum is more energetic more live of the party.... egoiste is more for winter since warm and platinum is more for the summer since it's more cool... atleast it's for me

My two signature scents from the mainline Chanel is Platinum Egoiste and Pour Monsieur Edp. They are perfect for anything. I have Egoiste but never really got into that much. I like a lot more their Bois Des Iles Edp from their exclusive line which is really a tamer version of Egoiste. That's one of my favorite.

I was always wearing Platinum Égoïste in the late 90’s. And i looked like a goth and wore it clubbing. Would it still ”bring me back” or is it too different?
Platinum Egoiste wears very cold and crisp on me. I find it's metallic and clinically clean profile very invigorating and work-perfect. It's a boss scent. Egoiste is too dark and stuffy-florally to my nose.
I have original release bottles of both Egoiste (250ml bottle from 1990) and Egoiste Platinum (100ml from 1993). The gold and light neon green colors receptively are gone! Both are classic must haves that have not aged one bit. Platinum was my signature for 5 years from 2008-2011. Get your hands on the old bottles as the magic is most definitely still in those.
I have been searching for Platinum Egoiste for quite sometime. It has always been one of my favorites. Once Dillard’s discontinued it I began searching the web & had no luck. Now I find a link to purchase but am reluctant after listening to your review. I still might risk it b/c both women & men compliment me on it. TY!
reformulated platinum has the worst sillage it’s like fish iron smell top note is goob but it’s gone in 5mins anyway , after reformulation i dont need the PE anymore on my colletion.
I agree with the "citrus explosion " description.That is what I like about Egoiste.When I bought Egoiste in 1990 I remember the initial lemon explosion-that is what made it awesome.There is almost none of that in the current Egoiste and a little more in Platinum.IMO the old Egoiste was just a wonderful, simple lemon explosion no other crap added.
Sebastian, thank you for reviewing these both. Equally are amazing! But, Platinum is definitely a cool steel fragrance. But not my best love of Chanel. However, Egoiste is where my love affair began with men’s cologne. I bought my first bottle at the Chanel Boutique in South Coast Plaza, here in Calif. It’s an awesome sandalwood fragrance. To hear it has been reformulated saddens me. I’m afraid to rediscover it, because the memories are intense with this one. What to do? I miss my love.
I've been wearing Egoiste Platinum for many years. I bought one from U.S. Chanel store. And started wearing the new bottle and something wasn't right with smell. Was bit sweet, weak etc... I checked the Chanel bottle and was made in the U.S.A. So I went back to the store and found out tester Chanel cologne was made in France and not for sale. But made in the U.S.A. ones were for sale. Also, U.S. shopping malls were doing exactly samething! So I purchased one from Airport duty-free store and smell was the real Egoiste Platinum.

From how you guys described these two one could think the "warm" one is better suited for colder days and the "colder" Platinum version is better for warm/hot days.
I have a brand new sealed Egoisten Platinum (yes, it was named like that in the beginning) and some miniatures, both 1993 batches. No comparison to the dry smelling, herbal and rough new batches. Egoiste didn’t do much for me.
Two great fragrances. Love them both. If I remember correctly Egoiste was not a big hit when it was launched, in fact I hated it at the time, and I even think it was discontinued, certainly from the store I worked in.

I have two unopened sealed bottles of Egoiste…the pre-1990 release (1989), and a 1997 one. I never smelled Egoiste before. I’m very curious and will open one of the bottles soon. I have a Gucci Envy For Men. Wonder if Egoiste smells the same because of the sandalwood?
Great Comparison. I hope there are more videos like these in the future. I believe Platinum Egoiste was created because Egoiste was no selling well in the States due to the New Aquatic craze at the time. I have had both and you right the Platinum is too cold and only smells close to Egoiste in the dry down so I gifted it to someone. Egoiste in my favourite Cologne in my collection but I have to use it sparingly since it was reformulated.
I liked the original when it came out & I did enjoy it . Don’t recall smelling platinum for some reason . Why would they make a flanker if it has nothing to do with the original bottle ? I find it odd because they have tons of names to choose from . Anyhow , I just sliced some cucumbers 🥒 & added some salt & vinegar as a snack because I couldn’t resist the craving . I know someone will say I’m crazy, but from the first moment I smelled Platinum Egoiste I knew what it reminded me of, that scent that was everywhere when I was in high school: Abercrombie Fierce. I realize it is much better, but there is a similar if not the exact same accord in both fragrances, and that may be why some associate it with juvenile.
Egoïste never gets talked about and nownit finally does! I prefer Egoïste over the platinum version, it is so good and such a classic. wish teh concentree version was still here, bet that smelled amazing.
Please someone answer. I bought a sample of what I thought was Chanel Egoiste. I loved the smell so much, I bought Egoiste. When I received it, I compared it to my sample and they were completely different scents! The bottle of Egoiste I smelled came off to me as a smokey/cigarette smell even though I don’t think tobacco is in this fragrance. I hate this smell. I’ve heard so many good reviews about it but it smells like a flowery grandma’s house with cigarette smoke. What I’m guessing is the sample I bought, the guy mixed up the scents and put the wrong label on it. My sample smells more fresher? I don’t really know how to explain. Somewhat flowery more herbal and kind of a fresh laundry scent vibe. Do you guys get kind of a Smokey scent with Egoiste? I’m returning it and going to buy platinum Egoiste since I think this was the true scent in the sample. Hoping that this was a simple mistake. Any suggestions?
Smelling Great Fragrance Reviews Problem solved. The guy sent me Platinum Egoiste but the sample was labeled Egoiste. Either way I’m happy he made the mistake. I like Platinum way better.

I ware some feemale perfumes I use to have Romance and Aventus for her . I was thinking about getting it but if it's not a beast mode performer then I don't want it.. I don't want to waste my money to smell like body wash or body spray
Here I´m totally with Sebastian. Very precise description. I don´t know how the lady can see the Egoiste fresh and Platinum juvenile. To me it´s the Platinum that smells fresh and clean (almost like a HQ showergel), may be a little generic, but at the same time feels more oldschoolish than Egoiste. When I tried both in the store from the tester strip I liked the Platinum more - felt cleaner, more up to date. The Egoiste had a certain little note that is present in much more amped up way in a very cheap aftershave splash Pitralon (the 80´s socialist Czechoslovakian version) that I didn´t like. But here´s the thing: As I tried them on skin at home none of that was true. It was crystal clear that I like the Egoiste much more - no funky chemical-smoky note, much more complex and totally timeless - from the skin it doesn´t smell dated at all. Sadly my sister-in-law with her average amateur taste didn´t like the smell and its strenght (it was only three squirts from the small tester). What a shame, such a great frag.
I had the original Egoiste back in the early 90s then I thought it was too intense for me. After years of not using it, I finally gave it away. Now I regret having done so!
I think they were just riding on the Egoiste name when they created Platinum. Kind of how like Allure Homme and Allure Homme Extreme and Cologne Sport don’t really have anything to do with each other. I got into Platinum late in the game, ~2004. I’ll use a 1.7 oz up, then get something else, but I always weirdly always come back to this guy every other time. It’s weaker than it used to be for sure, but it’s still strong. I remember two sprays of the old stuff would last for 24 hours, and forever on your clothes until you washed them! I think the herbal ness of it after the barbershop accord burns off is what keeps it relevant and a classic today. Carolina Herrera for Men and Calvin Klein Eternity were originally similar but they don’t go through as many distinct phases and complexities which ultimately make them smell like 90’s middle schooler scents for me 😂.
I adore Egoiste and Chanel in general but to me Platinum is borderline horrible. Way too metallic and reeks of synthetic 90's to me. Egoiste to me comes across as timeless.
I know my co worker goes crazy wild with that cologne... she says it smells super sexy and she gets like horny lol... I was lmao cause she would smell me and I just start lol... i ran out because i wore it too much going out and got many compliments on the bus... one lady ask me what was I wearing because I smell amazing her words... she said she needed to buy her man that lol... I told her and I'm sure she bought it haha
I also wore Egoiste when it came out - and bought another bottle recently. I feel like it was what Spicebomb was going for but with more finesse. Platiinum however...I was gifted with a bottle a few years go, and I did not like it, at all. In my nose and on my skin, it's a geranium bomb. Great idea!
The platinum version makes me nauseous for some reason. Not a fan of that scent whatsoever but the regular Egoiste is very interesting and captivating!

I'm a 53yr old woman and I own and adore both equally. I wear the platinum in autumn and og in the winter. Mmmm classy and timeless.
I easily prefer Egoiste. When I think of a "metallic lavendar" type fragrance, I automatically think of Sartorial by Penhaligon's.

I agree that PE off a paper sample strip is not the best. But on warm skin, it's a completely different story IMO. Love the stuff.

By PE i get mostly masculine flowers and a little bit of a watery feel. Loving it
Great video. Both are great but platinum egoiste is my favorite fragrance of all time!! Love it❤️. I also think egoiste and musc ravageur bring out the same vibe.

From how you guys described these two one could think the "warm" one is better suited for colder days and the "colder" Platinum version is better for warm/hot days.
I have a brand new sealed Egoisten Platinum (yes, it was named like that in the beginning) and some miniatures, both 1993 batches. No comparison to the dry smelling, herbal and rough new batches.
Egoiste didn’t do much for me.

Two great fragrances. Love them both. If I remember correctly Egoiste was not a big hit when it was launched, in fact I hated it at the time, and I even think it was discontinued, certainly from the store I worked in.
Platinum turns my stomach I’ll stick with the original

I have two unopened sealed bottles of Egoiste…the pre-1990 release (1989), and a 1997 one. I never smelled Egoiste before. I’m very curious and will open one of the bottles soon. I have a Gucci Envy For Men. Wonder if Egoiste smells the same because of the sandalwood?
To me the Gucci and the Chanel didn’t smell similar.
Sometimes wearing Egoiste I feel like a walking cinnabon, other times the other notes shine more and then it's one of the best smells I know.

Great Comparison. I hope there are more videos like these in the future. I believe Platinum Egoiste was created because Egoiste was no selling well in the States due to the New Aquatic craze at the time. I have had both and you right the Platinum is too cold and only smells close to Egoiste in the dry down so I gifted it to someone. Egoiste in my favourite Cologne in my collection but I have to use it sparingly since it was reformulated.

I liked the original when it came out & I did enjoy it . Don’t recall smelling platinum for some reason . Why would they make a flanker if it has nothing to do with the original bottle ? I find it odd because they have tons of names to choose from . Anyhow , I just sliced some cucumbers 🥒 & added some salt & vinegar as a snack because I couldn’t resist the craving . Thank you guys for this video & comparison because it gives the viewer an idea what to look 👀 for !
I know someone will say I’m crazy, but from the first moment I smelled Platinum Egoiste I knew what it reminded me of, that scent that was everywhere when I was in high school: Abercrombie Fierce. I realize it is much better, but there is a similar if not the exact same accord in both fragrances, and that may be why some associate it with juvenile.
Egoïste never gets talked about and nownit finally does! I prefer Egoïste over the platinum version, it is so good and such a classic. wish teh concentree version was still here, bet that smelled amazing.
also said they reformulated them, the bottle I have is not the same as the one my dad used to wear. it is till good though but defo less so.

Platinum - fresh, citrus, soapy going down to slight wood, daytime. Original - rich, woody, sexy nighttime.
Please someone answer. I bought a sample of what I thought was Chanel Egoiste. I loved the smell so much, I bought Egoiste. When I received it, I compared it to my sample and they were completely different scents! The bottle of Egoiste I smelled came off to me as a smokey/cigarette smell even though I don’t think tobacco is in this fragrance. I hate this smell. I’ve heard so many good reviews about it but it smells like a flowery grandma’s house with cigarette smoke. What I’m guessing is the sample I bought, the guy mixed up the scents and put the wrong label on it. My sample smells more fresher? I don’t really know how to explain. Somewhat flowery more herbal and kind of a fresh laundry scent vibe. Do you guys get kind of a Smokey scent with Egoiste? I’m returning it and going to buy platinum Egoiste since I think this was the true scent in the sample. Hoping that this was a simple mistake. Any suggestions?

Smelling Great Fragrance Reviews Problem solved. The guy sent me Platinum Egoiste but the sample was labeled Egoiste. Either way I’m happy he made the mistake. I like Platinum way better.
Comparison is one of the best way to describe/review fragrances so keep it going! Never really got interested in these two because of the impression that they are outdated. Maybe time to give them some attention. Liked the silly jokes at the end. Thanks, Seb and Dalya.

I ware some feemale perfumes I use to have Romance and Aventus for her . I was thinking about getting it but if it's not a beast mode performer then I don't want it.. I don't want to waste my money to smell like body wash or body spray

Here I´m totally with Sebastian. Very precise description. I don´t know how the lady can see the Egoiste fresh and Platinum juvenile. To me it´s the Platinum that smells fresh and clean (almost like a HQ showergel), may be a little generic, but at the same time feels more oldschoolish than Egoiste.
When I tried both in the store from the tester strip I liked the Platinum more - felt cleaner, more up to date. The Egoiste had a certain little note that is present in much more amped up way in a very cheap aftershave splash Pitralon (the 80´s socialist Czechoslovakian version) that I didn´t like.
But here´s the thing:
As I tried them on skin at home none of that was true. It was crystal clear that I like the Egoiste much more - no funky chemical-smoky note, much more complex and totally timeless - from the skin it doesn´t smell dated at all.
Sadly my sister-in-law with her average amateur taste didn´t like the smell and its strenght (it was only three squirts from the small tester). What a shame, such a great frag.
I had the original Egoiste back in the early 90s then I thought it was too intense for me. After years of not using it, I finally gave it away. Now I regret having done so!

Just checked Chanel Egoiste today I believe 1st time ever smelling it. Found it surprisingly similar to Caron's Le 3e Homme, which I like a lot
Which has longer projection, last longer, and can be worn as an everyday fragrance ?

I think they were just riding on the Egoiste name when they created Platinum. Kind of how like Allure Homme and Allure Homme Extreme and Cologne Sport don’t really have anything to do with each other. I got into Platinum late in the game, ~2004. I’ll use a 1.7 oz up, then get something else, but I always weirdly always come back to this guy every other time. It’s weaker than it used to be for sure, but it’s still strong. I remember two sprays of the old stuff would last for 24 hours, and forever on your clothes until you washed them! I think the herbal ness of it after the barbershop accord burns off is what keeps it relevant and a classic today. Carolina Herrera for Men and Calvin Klein Eternity were originally similar but they don’t go through as many distinct phases and complexities which ultimately make them smell like 90’s middle schooler scents for me 😂.
I always thought it interesting people have such different opinions from the same Fragrance.
I adore Egoiste and Chanel in general but to me Platinum is borderline horrible. Way too metallic and reeks of synthetic 90's to me. Egoiste to me comes across as timeless.

I was lmao cause she would smell me and I just start lol... i ran out because i wore it too much going out and got many compliments on the bus... one lady ask me what was I wearing because I smell amazing her words... she said she needed to buy her man that lol... I told her and I'm sure she bought it haha
I also wore Egoiste when it came out - and bought another bottle recently. I feel like it was what Spicebomb was going for but with more finesse. Platiinum however...I was gifted with a bottle a few years go, and I did not like it, at all. In my nose and on my skin, it's a geranium bomb. Great idea!

The platinum version makes me nauseous for some reason. Not a fan of that scent whatsoever but the regular Egoiste is very interesting and captivating!
