I am so happy this helped you! That’s awesome you already had the steel bar. I used that same bar on my 1940 Cadillac for another reason but it has come in so handy. Take care, Tony
Pull the handbrake, 1 st gear, and STEP on the wrench at`9 o`clock position. Your bodyweight will easily loosen the nut. No need to cross the river to get water ;-)
Yes you can do it that was if you have it chocked good, emergency brake on, if it works. I did this because I had whole car on jack stands already from doing additional work. I still would use this method though when working on both sides. Thank you for your feedback I am always learning from other people since I was making these videos. Much respect...Tony
@@HowYouCanDoItToo I think I am just going to make the same tool you used here. It will probably also work on a gearbox that's not mounted to a car. :)
Good job except instead of lifting up on the bar try pulling down next time. It's a lot easier! You could just put it in gear, have someone step on the brakes and pull the emergency brake handle too then jack it up to remove the tire and drum after you loosen the nut.
I attempted this on the passanger side but cannot break the wheel nut loose. is the nut reverse thread or am i forgetting something. This brake drum is all i need to get finished so i can get this car safetied for the road.
No it should not be reversed thread.Should be counter clockwise. Did you get the other side off or is this the only one you had to do. Also did the whole Carter Pin come out and not broken? Make sure nothing is in the whole where the carter pin was. Someone might have really torqued the hell out of it before you as well. What year is your vw? Please let me know. I had a flywheel nut from hell on mine I had to notch cut it, it even broke my cheater bar!! It would be to hard to do that on your hub nut.
Tomas Velasquez velez you probably can unless you are removing the hub because your brakes shoes are bad and that is the reason you are removing it. If your bearing is gone and it's wobbling the pad might not grab on all surfaces. You can always try that and if your wheel turns than do this method and ask yourself why am I removing it in the first place. Take care my friend
LOL never realized I said that!!! In my mind was wheel cylinder and puked out calipers lololol good catch!!! I wondering why they wouldn’t fit Over the hub 🤪
Great video, but if you want to make it a tad easier you can work with gravity instead of pushing up on it bring it to the other side and push down, use your body's weight instead of pushing up with your back/shoulders, I have a bad back so I'm always aware of ways that may help not to irritate my symptoms and make the job that much easier, may have to do that anyway for them ones that are really on there
You should have titled it How to remove VW hub-nut as you do not show removing the hub at all in this one, which is why I watched it, to see the actual hub removal... But still, awesome suggestion of the helper bar! =])
Yes you are correct. LOL but once you get the nut off the hub comes off real easy by wiggling it back and forth. I will change the title and add the nut. Thank you and take care
Why make the tool. Instead, stick a screwdriver into the brake rotor vent holes, and let the screwdriver lean against the brake caliper to stop rotation. After axle nut is released, take off your brake caliper.
Sorry you had a stressful time removing yours. I hate when you watch videos to fix things on your own and it goes a lot harder than shown. I hope you were still able to get it removed. I had a flywheel that would not come off for anything no matter what videos I watched. I ended up having to use a dremal tool to notch it off. Take care, Tony
This worked PERFECTLY for my '72 Super. I already had a steel bar just like you used and using the floor jack handle was the TRICK! THANKS so much!

My 75kg sure didn't loosen the nuts, they sure weren't at 350Nm.
learned something new. thanks going to make one soon!
The factory owners manual says to break lug nuts and axle nuts while the wheel is on the ground.

Ok.. so I need a spare car to bolt onto my gearbox to get that nut loose... :)
@@1951split lol, yes pretty much sometimes :)

what is the measurement between holes? center to center?
PUSH IT TO THE LIMIT...this is how mechanics dress in MIAMI 🌴🌴🌞

Next step- light a cigarette after tightening lug nuts lol
hey great video, but i was just wondering, can i use the hand break to keep the hub steady? if not, why so?

Great video. My axel nut was not loose, but VERY easily removed; I'm sure not at 220 ft/lbs. Is that a dangerous situation? Thanks.
Thank you!
Thanks for the tips. They really helped! Now, how can you wear white clothing and do this without greasing them all up? ...lol...Cheers!
Ray Aguirre LOL!!! It's not easy :) Take care...Tony
Man, this guy sounds like Dwight Yoakam.
I hope you don't try to put new calipers on the drum brakes

Taanky Tonk thank you are 100% right. Cause when I did the other side it wasn't that easy lol
I can lift 1,5x my weight, so it's not always better to use gravity. ;)

who works on a car in white pants and shirt?
+howard m Burgers LOL!!! A painter that works on stuff after work :) I get asked that a lot. Take care my friend...Tony
It was really too easy. I had plenty stress removing mine.
