Been watching this trial every day. I find the timing of Jonathan Melnick's suspension rather suspicious. The DA's office has been disparaging him since they decided to make Kenneth Copeland their star witness. Everything about the YSL case has been carried out in an unorthodox manner. At times the judicial and prosecutorial misconduct has been brazenly blatant. And the defense attorneys probably have whiplash by now, from being blindsided by the court so many times. But the real travesty of justice is that those young defendants have been sitting in the Fulton County Jail for two years while the games are being played in that courtroom.

I believe your question is answered in what "Woody" told detectives after his arrest. He now claims his statements were lies to avoid jail
& from his own prosecution. Under duress Woody had turned against YSL ( Williams) to save himself. He told detectives what he now says, "was anything they wanted to hear". Prosecutors had to get YSL on *gang* charges on what Woody told detectives.
Prosecutors offered Woody Immunity, as their "star witness" against Williams. Woody has now reversed course, under immunity, and denied everything he ever said, and damaged the gang charges made by the State, including the violation of RICO.
Defense lawyers complain the State is acting on "theory", hearsay and lack of their own evidence.

The prosecutor claimed he was good on both in the court when the Judge asked her, that doesn’t mean the Judge granted him anything. I truly believe that while this has been in the works, someone got it rushed through quickly to get at Melnick because of his going at Love about her knowing he was Woody’s attorney and how all of the secret ex parte’ came out. Woody still on the stand was a bonus for them. This whole trial is as shady as they come with prosecutors who tell lie after lie with never called out on them except by the defense but always excused by the judge, much less they ignore deadlines requiring them to provide materials to the defense but they ignore them, and more. As DWC says, poor Woody is nothing but a commodity for the state. IMO they don’t care if he is shot and killed unless it happens before he is finished testifying.

Can they get into the record, a page full of lies?

Can a juror be blamed for a daydreaming mind?
Can they ever recoup all these hours of time?

Could it be due to State offering Woody immunity that he receives attorney? I thought it would be State appointed attorney.

@@dedehigginbotham7346 To get a public defender you have to first submit financial info to prove you can’t afford to hire an attorney. In this case Judge Whitaker said the public defender’s office sent out a request for a volunteer - likely because it’s faster.

Because nothing about anyone that seems to get involved with this case seems to not somehow have things get overly complicated, even when it should not be. I do feel Melnick may have gotten a lighter one if he hadn't been all over the YSL case. I do have a question about how this could impact back on YSL, if at all.
So here is my hypothetical, semi thought exercise - getting a bit to real for a worse case situation. (The irony being i had similar hypothetical questions about what happens when judges screw up, which lead me to the YSL case)
Copeland is getting a public defender, as of today. I would hope they want to see the immunity agreement, in light of Melnick getting suspended. (Regardless of how we all feel about it). Which I would think is the basic to do get caught up on a case, along with "what are you giving testimony about and what are the dangerous areas" i.e. things they could independently prove.
Say they find out he only has the state derivative immunity. They find out that is not what Copeland was told on the stand by the judge, who confirmed it via Hyland at the end of Monday night. Because it changed from State to Fed from when they last talked about it. Everyone is raising eyebrows at that. (Sure it is possible, but likely?)
Would that be a mistrial? Regardless, what happens to Copeland? Because the feds can use that right? (Assuming they could actually find evidence, which is where things get questionable for me).

I really liked Melnick however, as a lawyer he should be held to a higher standard and appears that he has not learned that he can not juggle the number of cases he has on his own. If I had a lawyer who failed to inform me of a hearing and it caused me to lose out on something, I would fire the lawyer and file a misrepresentation report against him. I hope he takes some time reassessing his career choice and if he goes forward as a lawyer, the first thing he should do is hire a paralegal who can do the contact needs and your calendar.

Question: what is this trial mainly about. I mean honestly an alleged gang member gets unlived and crime runs rampant in Fulton County ( still is ). When there are crimes from 1990’s and involving AA people that don’t even get a blink. What makes this case besides it being a RICO so special?

Amazed that so many forgot that we had 4 years nearly of delays on court proceedings with the entire plandemic. Our country & courts were shut down but on a very limited scale through July 2023. Only then did they begin working on many cases picked up in 2019 - 2023. You can look all over social media and see where many cases are just now making it to court & when it becomes to discipline of attys, that’s going to be low on the list to get through with so many back log of people siting in jail still, especially in Fulton County. Same as Fani Willis, it may take 2 years with the entire court system to even sanction her for 90 days.

I’m Not a lawyer, just a critical thinker and I do believe that, given the fact that his livelihood is severely impacted, this is severe and an alternate punishment is warranted. However, the consequences of a lawyers actions have impacts way beyond the life of any decisions borne from them. I’m sure that lawyers appreciated this when they start out but ‘familiarity breeds contempt’ is a truism in all walks of life and lawyers are no exception and it’s clear they quickly become somewhat inoculated to this consideration. Where I would disagree with you, and where I think his real mistake occurred, was in not offering restitution as soon as his client raised it with him. That’s where he lost me and, I’m willing to bet, that’s where he lost the decision to go more lenient.
