[VAN RENOVATION EP3] - VW CALIFORNIA T4 - Painting inside and outside

- Welcome to Episode 3 of our new Van Renovation Series!
Our previous van project did not go as planned at all.. You can find the videos in our playlist "Van Build Series".
So now we have our new van, call it our plan B, to work on.
We will spend the next weeks giving this beautiful Volkswagen California Coach T4 a total makeover before we "move in" to live in it full time.
In this episode we did:
Painting the inside and cabinet fronts in white "Creme" Bengalack.
We matted it down with a soft sanding sponge, then cleaned it (we used brake cleaner) and painted it. We used a spray can for some of it and the rest of the inside furniture we used a brush and roller. Total of three layers to get it even and a nice smooth result.
Bengalack Frappe was used on the handles, same process.
Rust repair: Welded a new metal piece, used metal spatula and then painted with original colour spray paint and finished off with clear coat.
Next episode we will show you more renovations such as painting the bumpers, mounting floor, foil wrap etc. Stay tuned!

Allways best to try to get a T4 Cali to shine and keep it in good order. Interior - would used foil, if it was mine. Well, mine 1992 $270 Cali, will keep the original blue (maybe put foil at it some day) Benga/Quick is shit, but hope you will enjoy it - that the most important!
We understand we have different opinions on this subject. We chose to customise it to be our full time home and we absolutely love it!
And turns out we even raised the value in the process.

Hey Maria and Sondre, thanks a lot for your great videos :) We just bought our very first vw bus (freestyle 2003). We loved to see how you renovated your bus. We almost have the same furniture so it's very interesting for us. All our doors have this plastic zigzag pattern like you have on certain doors in the rear. Could I ask you what paint you used for these? Thanks a lot and we wish you a happy new year !!

We haven’t painted inside the doors but for plastic parts we used a spray bengalack paint.

Oh my god, I've gotten sick watching it! How can you paint the beautiful cupboards that are in such good condition? You have reduced the value of the VW California significantly. The color doesn't look good either. I'm really shocked and don't understand how you can do something so unwise.

Hello, I didn't mean that in a bad way, of course everyone has their own taste and that's a good thing. Here in Germany, the T4 vehicles are traded very highly, it is always best if the condition is original. I wish you always a safe trip and lots of fun with your T4.
