Battle reports for this kind of regiment based mass battle wargame really benefit from a top down camera view or a similar angle that can show what is where. I couldn't make out the positioning of the units (again; crucial for this kind of game unlike 40K) here because of your camera angle and all the terrain blocking the view.
Also deepwood scouts have a limit of 0-1 per 1000pts However this is a very complicated game and we all all going to make mistakes in our first few games (at a very minimum) Great work guys BTW love the vid and love old world being back
I've watched a ton of battle reports recently for the old world and this is the best so far, especially for a beginner like me - very concise and clear! Would love to see some High Elves in action!
Absolutely loved this battle report, very well done a nice medium sized battle that showcased the amazing old world rules. Well done guys for a superb, game!!
When I first got into Warhammer I wanted to play Old World however I heard it was gone and Age of Sigmar was the new thing. I'm super happy now they got this game back! Even though I can't play my Skaven or Lizard men. Tomb Kings is my third favorite faction and I'm glad they have support!
Remember if the kills are equal or greater than the front rank (generally), the enemy may not retaliate apart from their champion (unless they don't have one, or some attacks were declared against the champion and killed it).
@@grlmgor The amount of ranks doesn't matter for fighting back, the unit replaces the casualties by stepping forward, if a model has stepped forward it may not attack.

O also turn 2 you put the wild riders in the flank of the chariots on their charge, you put the charge angle on the defending unit not the assaulting unit. So I believe they would of been in the chariots front arc. Also aren't dryads flammable so no regen against dragons breath? Seems you were both enjoying it though, which is good :)
This is great! I love this style of video (a combo of straight battle report and also tutorial). I'd love to find something like this for Age of Sigmar games.
Would the horse archers against the wild riders have fought back as you removed the front row and in old world there is no stepping up? Just checking! Great report though, thanks both.
Same questions. Obviously some people are mixing interactions form Fantasy Battle that might not be a thing anymore in Old World so conformation would be in appreciated.
If you step up into the front rank you don't get to attack. Also horse archer cant attack in 2 ranks. Only the horsemen can if they haven't move and have cavalry spears.
Wood elf army list was illegal. That was not a flank charge on the chariots, the wild riders were clearly in the front arc. Forgot fated dispel. You don't seem to have taken fear or terror tests. You probably need to reread step up as I'm not sure 2 dryads have 12 attacks. Stomps from monsters against non monsters have ap2. Instability just removes models, no regeneration allowed. I could go on...
Didn't expect to see VT doing TOW, but I love it, great to see Wood Elves put up a showing, Wild Riders rolling a whole flank on their own, excited for more!
When you flee or pursue if you have swiftstride (like the dragon has) you can add 1D6, so that dragon would have caught the fleeing dryads. Also, if you want to restrain when the enemy falls back in good order, gives ground or flees, you have to pass a leadership test. Also you can't shoot into combat. Also, if you follow into an enemy that fell back in good order instead of restraining when you win a battle in your turn, next turn of combat you count as having charged instead of being charged yourself, so unless you no longer want to keep fighting that enemy or you don't think you can catch them (because they have swiftstride and you don't, so you might be making their next charge easier) it is usually always better to follow. Exceptions are if it is the opponent's turn because next turn you can shoot into the unit that fled or charge them yourself (although then they can choose to flee or shoot and hold if distance permits)
Three things that seem to have been forgotten in this game: fated dispel (or whatever the name is) Fear VS the archers. Easy to forget that one. And, most importantly, closed order and its +1 combat mod would have a pretty big difference at a few points. Less certain if My Will Be Done was forgotten or just not mentioned.
Several rules issues I noticed: The Wood Elf list wasn't fully legal - the army needs 1+ units of Glade Guard. In practice this just means that one of the Deepwood Scout units would have been 2pts cheaper per model and lost skirmish, which could have usefully put points towards more Dryads (those were the unsung heroes - they're remarkably resilient). As far as I could tell, you never rolled to restrain when choosing not to follow up a withdrawing unit.
Great battle report. First time I’ve seen Wood Elves and they are ace 👍 just a quick note, each army gets a Fated Dispel once per round on 2D6 no mods, regardless of having a spellcaster or not. Just a note for future games.
Some other things missed: Terror test when the Dragon charges. Leadership Test to restrain after winning combat. Fear Test when charging a unit with a higher Unit Strength or when in Combat with a Fear unit that has a higher Unit Strength. Dragon has Regen 5+ I believe.
Loved this video! As a warhammer beginner it was a bit hard to keep track of where combats and actions were happening on the table. Perhaps consider using more overhead shots of the table before dice rolls or as they happen!
Love this, very well made and great to see my beloved Wood Elves in a game :) BUT; I miss seeing more of the board and which models/units are actually fighting, more of that rather than the constant focus on the players even though they were great..
Wish I had a copy of the rulebook, but doesn't the loose formation or whatever the TK light cavalry have allow the whole unit to shoot? I thought they basically got "skirmish without being spaced out" or maybe I'm thinking of the Fast Cavalry rule from some other edition.
So, about that charge into the side of the chariots.... I thought that the chariot that got destroyed in the initial charge would make it so that none of the tomb kings could fight back, since that chariot was the only one on the front rank. Is that correct? There is no step-up rule anymore right?
Happy with that! Very insightful. Was more of a walk through, talk through lesson. Which makes sense for the brand, though you're giving lessons away for free. Bit more sweeping over the battle field for emersion and visual indulgence would be ace.
Like at the end of each turn before the sit down thought process. Have a load screen of sorts of the battle field being flown over, proper birds eye view, swooping for situational awareness. Only a thought.
Subbed to this channel hoping fornmore old world content! Just some more close up glory shots of the models and this would be near perfect! Great batrep!
can you tell me which page covers that T2 charge into the flank of the chariots? Based on the overhead angle provided that should be a frontal charge per the description on page 127, but I am curious if there is another page covering the charge move being around a hill (also I guess I should confirm that the hill in the center is actually a hill haha). Anyways as I can see the Wild Riders should be in the front and would not move around the hill for a flank charge and instead pivot on the spot and then move forwards over the hill and into the front so knowing where to look for the exception here would be really helpful as I learn to navigate this new (and REALLY big) book.
@JamesDaviesWriter I don't want to assume anything because camera angles don't always match up with real angles but it definitely did appear to be frontal. I was wondering if it was some sort of interaction with going around hills I missed but also wonder if it's more of a oopsie from playing 40k where that seemed more appropriate.
This is the first battle i have watched how come some of the wood elf army moves without looking like its rigidly ranked up, like the other units i have seen?
You guys need trays. Those were some real loose moves. Also, foirst turn, you roll your charge, then before you move in, she gets her charge reaction. If she had decided to flee, you would have needed your full movement. I think even skirmishers block line of sight to their back ranks (but not on a hill).
@@DwainiacWarhammer i think its only if the fear causing unit has MORE unit strength. i could be wrong though since i dont have the rulebook yet myself.

Let’s see more Old World content 👍👍
Love the bit at 12:50. where the model fell of the tower
Love this, very well made and great to see my beloved Wood Elves in a game :)
BUT; I miss seeing more of the board and which models/units are actually fighting, more of that rather than the constant focus on the players even though they were great..
Wish I had a copy of the rulebook, but doesn't the loose formation or whatever the TK light cavalry have allow the whole unit to shoot? I thought they basically got "skirmish without being spaced out" or maybe I'm thinking of the Fast Cavalry rule from some other edition.
Fantastic battle report you guys! It was truly enjoyable to watch, keep it coming!
Thanks! Will do!
Great content! More of Old World please!!
So, about that charge into the side of the chariots.... I thought that the chariot that got destroyed in the initial charge would make it so that none of the tomb kings could fight back, since that chariot was the only one on the front rank. Is that correct? There is no step-up rule anymore right?
More old world!!❤❤
Well made report. I look forward to more.
i think that u cant use the regeneration hability to save your minis for the unstable rule
This is really well produced, not annoying, and feels very natural. Love to see the Wood Elves in action too!
More Old World plz
It’s great to see the Tomb Kings on the table again.
Heard about this somewhere? Go Bots! Well Bone Bots!
Only a thought.
real question is why not using ap-2 arrow for archer istead of poisonous one ? (or the fire one to negate TK regen)
Yeah, that flank charge was definitely naughty. Clearly a frontal charge.
As long as skirmishers can draw a line between a gap between friendly models in their unit, they may shoot.
Skeletons cause FEAR. No falling back in good order when you lose combat vs enemies that cause fear. You flee
Oh God is auto break against fear causing enemies still a rule? That is horrible to go up against
@@DwainiacWarhammer i think its only if the fear causing unit has MORE unit strength. i could be wrong though since i dont have the rulebook yet myself.
Fear has no impact on FBIGO.
@@LinkusmaxFBIGO? what is that?
