Thanks for watching! Ack’s is a great finish. The wax would work on any project as it is just that, wax. But I have not done any turning of epoxy to know how it would work on that medium.
I saw your post on Facebook and came to check out your video - great looking bowl! Bit off topic, but curious what camera are you using that you can see the view on your Apple Watch?
Thank watching and commenting! I record with my iPhone 14. I am actually hoping to move away from the iPhone this year, but I have other things I want to buy for the shop before I get a different camera.
Nice. Just curious on the use of the carbide when you also use a traditional bowl gouge. I find it just get a much better cut using only the traditional tools. Thank you for your service as well - assuming the sign is for your sub.
Great question! I learned on carbides and have been learning to use the traditional gouge. So, there is a comfort level with the carbide tools that I don’t have with the gouge. So a rambling answer to say, I am still learning and not good enough to turn a commission piece solely with the gouge :)
That turned out really awesome John! 👍🏻 Where did you get that live center and chuck you have on the tail stock? Been needing one but my chuck is 1 1/4”! Guess I’ll have to get a new chuck too! 😊 Thanks for sharing your work!
The live center is from Penn State Industries, it is only a 1” by 8TPI and the Chuck is a Nova Chuck G3. They are super helpful for mounting rings for the turning. Thanks for watching and thanks for the kind words :)
Great looking bowl. Good to see you using Ack’s. I am a fellow Ack’s ambassador and TH-camr. I’m looking forward to watching more of your videos.
Thanks for the kind words! Ack’s is my preferred finish - super simple and a nice satin look. Love your channel BTW.
Nice bowl, I might need to try some Acks. I rarely turn just wood though.

Oh, yeah, thank you and thanks for watching :)
I missed your last comment, yes that was the last of three submarines I served on. Thank you!
