I'm actually quite intimidated by the prospect of building an item sorter, but your tutorials always take into account that your viewers might have no idea what they're doing, and I appreciate that.
26:54 I am a redstone guru, so let me explain. Repeaters do three main things. Extend the redstone strength, delay the redstone signal, and if it is just a short pulse, it will also extend the pulse to the same length as the delay. This third thing is most likely what causes problems because a three tick pulse would activate the observer twice, thus adding an extra pulse to the clock each time. A fourth thing they can do is hard power blocks. And a fifth thing is lock other repeaters. If I missed anything they do, please reply what I missed. Also, if this comment helps you please let me know, because I like writing helpful comments, but I don’t know if they really help.
That about covers it, and yeah you're correct about observers detecting it turn on and off at 3 ticks of delay. I'm sure this kind of comment is helpful, when I was a redstone noob I always learned something from reading comments.
@@travislapham3479 If I understand the question correctly, nothing. A repeater will only effect the block in front of it. Unless of course an observer detects it
Ok I watched it all. This is pretty impressive. I have built item sorters many times and I always have some sort of annoyance while building it. Sometimes I just wanna set them on fire. But I build everything you come up with and usually preffer it in the end. So this should be fun, and thank you.
This is the first one of these that 1) explains why we do what, so if it breaks I can fix it, 2) gives me small increments so I can test. I've watched three of these systems, yours is the first I successfully got up and running. Thank you so much
Well... one of the tweaks I've made is using 5 repeaters. (Also technically, just for disambiguation, about 5 of those entries, including that, are for the clock rather than the slices.)
By watching just the intro, even though I'm not gonna build this now, I'm very interested to continue watching this video just because you kept the description short and simple and convinced me that it is easy to build. Wanted to give this feedback because I really liked this type of intro

I built this, but I’m a bit stuck… the items get stuck in the 4th dropper up in the first slice. If I put more items through, suddenly it works again.. as if it’s only turned on for a short time and the items aren’t sorting fast enough? If I break something and put it back, that also works. I have a couple of chests where items are skipping where they belong and going to an empty chest a few slices down, I re-did the hoppers to make sure they’re aimed right but no luck. I’ve gone back through your video maybe 5 times and I can’t find what I did wrong.
I had same issue I slowed it all down I put all the repeaters on two ticks and have had no issues … I have built two of these sorters in the realm I am on they both work great only down side is it takes time to sort I normally drop my stuff of in the system and work around in my base for a little while it sorts…
Could it be possible to get some help? For whatever reason, the iteams aren't sorting. The items stop at the beginning on the second hopper from the top left. It's the hopper facing the steps. The hopper is facing the step and the chest if filled with items. Thanks
You didn't explain how the sorter sorts the items. Do you have to fill the hopper last four slots with 1 of the items and then 15 in the first slot so that it knows what you want in that box.
I had the same problem but I misplaced one of the observers on the end that has a redstone torch on it. Just make sure all the observers are looking the right way and it should work
I have the same issue but can’t solve. I find between each observers tower (every 15) they aren’t the same timed as the first lot and my items get stuck im the hopper for the first chest. If I destroy the red stone torch on the second observer tower the items will them drop down the hoppers. Any solutions? I can’t figure it out and I want to expand it 60 chests long
How do you extend the signal past 15 blocks? I tried just setting up the same observer/redstone torch tower on the other side and linking it up to the clock redstone line, but it just keeps the redstone locked on the 15 slices closest to that side. Love the tutorial though, super easy to follow I just couldn't figure out the one thing not directly shown in the video Edit: If its longer than 15 slices you just have to make it exactly 30, mine was 24 slices and the signals were slightly off in timing making it so the hoppers received continuous power. I just extended the redstone line out without actually building more slices and it works now
Make sure you have the same amount of delay via repeater ticks between each sides torch tower. If they are both being pulsed at the same time, it'll work perfectly fine.
I can not get it to work, i watched the video several times before i made it, and paused maaaany times. Only thing i made different was location of my input A little bit of my items goes directly to overflow even though they have a spot, and some didnt go into second slice .... i am sure i made a mistake somewhere. I only have one important question so when you want to turn it right say you’ve hit a corner and you want to turn it to the right.. what is the process there? To continue with more sections?
yesterday i made 1 silent multi item sorter myself but its 4 times bigger and for 1 slice you need 16 droppers 18 observers a lot of hoppers ( its verry expensive in comparison to yours )
Looks really expensive. Couldn't the elevator be water? You spit out the item in water and it flows to the top where a hopper collects it. It won't be as compact, and you probably need to place the water columns in a zigzag pattern but the amount of observers used here is just not reasonable in a survival world
Great video - built this on my realm and had it working for ~3 days without any issues. It's ~30 tiles long and for some reason the very bottom observer/redstone line with the torches on the back began to alternate signals instead of pulse on the same signal. This seems to be resulting in items getting stuck in my first dropper line and I have no idea how to fix it- even slowing down the clock they still seem out of sync - anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? thanks in advance!
I’m not sure if it’s my server or the newest patch but the observers aren’t affecting redstone torches. Still sends out a signal to redstone dust though. Got a little creative with it, had to expand it out a little to make things work properly but used the same design principles you had. For the hoppers side, I ended up doing alternating torches to cycle it
Put all 8 repeaters on two ticks … as in place it and hit it one time. Slower but I have no issues at all just make sure to turn it off time to time logging off and on some times causes it to stop the clock or extend the power.I have three of these on my realm all working great just made the third one yesterday all flawless
Yes you have to have the stairs in between. If youre looking for a different version silentwisperer has a similar design that worked for me in a previous world.
@prowl8413 if i am making this in a U shape, with 3 segments, (2) 15 blocks wide, and the short side 12... do I need to create the observer torch tower for each, or can I continue the signal on with reapeaters?
So, fairly new to minecraft. Tried to play a decade ago but couldnt get into it. My 8 year old got me wanting to try it again and now im loving it. This build us awesome but I am wondering why you couldnt use a water elevator or bubble elevator and save on all that iron and quartz. Even with my 2 iron farms on it just seems like overkill. Could you use water and some combo of a clock instead of all those observers and hoppers on the back/bottomside. Would have to alternate your water columns back and forth each slice. Would take same ir less space. Main thing would be keeping the timing if movement sliw enough at top once water brings it up to a hopper? Just a newbie but wondering if this would work?
idk if its my horrid nintendo switch but when i put my items in the sorter they just get lost and dont even end up in the overflow chest. i checked every hopper and dropper and couldnt find my items. yes, i already slowed the tic speed but it didnt seem to help. i dont know what wrong with mine please help :(
My items are getting stuck in the first dropper in the system, it worked when I had the 2 slices, once i extended it, it didn’t wanna move up the droppers

** Sorter not working ** As soon as you try expand up to or/ past 15 blocks and create the second observer tower with red stone torches it causes the items to get stuck in the hopper just before the first chest. I haven’t found a solution but I noticed the red stone timings are not in sync between the observer towers. For example Once I remove the observer tower top torch the item will then filter down and then get stuck again. Repeat a section lower and item will drop. Any solutions as I want to expand this 60 chests long?
i made this item sorter and its works perfectly but just for 2 slices and for the rest the items dont know where they go? as far as inhave checked everything is correct , it seems i must have made a mistake in hopper system , can anyone help? please?
My items get stuck in the first slice. Any advice? Edit: i fixed it by connecting hoppers to droppers at the top of every slice. Something he forgot to mention until time stamp 34:08
hey does this work on laggy servers? i built one of these by silent whisperer but it broke on the server idk if it was lag or cos it was a year old tho
Hey Prowl, great videos. Very informative and thorough! I have built this to spec and the items go up the elevator and into the hoppers on top and stop at the very top hopper that ends into the stairs. It doesn’t drop any further since the first chest is full. If the chest is empty it flows into the chest but not if it’s full. I want to continue to the next chest and so on but it’s stuck. Any help would be appreciated!
@@-R_D- Having same issue on MCPE. My issue is that the items travel up and in the top row ‘chest hopper’ and the right item goes into the 1st chest no problem (each slot has 1 item), but all other (different) items get stuck in that 1st chest’s hopper and won’t travel down to the next chest.
It works on realms but I had to add another tick on the clock to slow it down more or it just wouldn't sort. Then it wasn't silent. the constant tick sound was enough to make me turn the sound down when it was running.
Soooo this I made a small error, I built this whole thing on java only to realise that observers and torches do not work the same...... any work around? Anything I can swap out? Or rip it all down and start again?
I have everything done except the very top where the top of the droppers are. I have 15 rows of chests 4 high on each slice. How do I do the droppers and hoppers up top so items go the way they should? I've watched this video many times now and either I'm missing this part or just not understanding. Do I link each dropper over to a chest with hoppers? Help please anyone? I've played MC for years but never really understood redstone so it's hard for me to figure out what to do with the tops of the droppers. TIA

@@jwsavedn88 I got it working temporarily I have 240 chests in total of stackable items. 30 blocks opposite of each other. Plus a section of non stackable items built within the system. The issue I was facing was the observer tower. I had a row of 15 chests with 15 redstone on top, locking the hoppers. I didn’t count for the redstone on top of the observer tower which made it 16. I temporarily swapped out the redstone and placed stone block instead for the observer tower so all redstone on the top is powered. Unfortunately my issue now is I have items passing through the top chests every now and then but is okay as it just ends up in the junk chests. Just have to manually place in the missed chest or put through the system again. I will have to keep messing around with it to make it perfect but it works for now. Possibly Solution. Another recent comment mentions using bells instead for the observer tower to have a more efficient pulse which I believe is my issue as I notice the redstone isn’t a consistent cycle it skips. I’m gonna experiment with it hopefully it isn’t noisy! I haven’t used bells before.About to find out if it is I’m replacing it straight away 😂 I wish I had a layout plan before I started as I have been adjusting constantly especially when I then added the non stackable items within it 🤣🤣
i keep re-checking every component of mine. it have items that just get lost in the various droppers, they just sit in there forever. anyone have thoughts?
This is a precision machine... particularly when it comes to timing... I have been (except for the last approximately 4 weeks) tweaking this on BOTH editions... so I should be able to help if you still need/want it.
I'm sorry so say this, but on a laggy realm then you play on Nintendo switch, this failes too much, items run though the system then they should not, and i slowed down the clock to the slowest setting. If you have a better computer or a stronger console this might be a good sorting system. But lag kills it :(
I have tried this in creative and in survival and I cannot figure out what's wrong. The signal doesn't seem to be transferring between observers. It seems like the bottom row works fine with the clock but anything above that doesn't fire when connected. I've rebuilt it twice and nothing is working. fully updated, paper server. Any help would be awesome, I really don't want to have wasted so much time for nothing :( also this is java, maybe I'm doing something wrong there and this just won't work on java? Update: the entire system doesn't work for me as of 1.20.4 on a paper java sever.
Hey there, Outrageous video, but I do have a question. Is there any way to alternate it into java edition? I already build that, and i forget, that redstone torch cant be powered off by observer :/
Yep, you build it all exactly the same, just make sure you hook up the same clock to that observer tower powering the redstone, and the elevator slices

My issue is that the item for the top row chest enters chest no problem, but all other items get stuck in the hopper and won’t travel down to the next chest. Double checked my build and can’t find the issue.
I followed the video however for some reason when the redstone dust is powered on, it doesn't cause the redstone torches to flip on and off?
I only have one important question so when you want to turn it right say you’ve hit a corner and you want to turn it to the right.. what is the process there? To continue with more sections?
I am having problems with the dropper I am placing it the same way you are but it's not facing right like your it it's facing forward
yesterday i made 1 silent multi item sorter myself but its 4 times bigger and for 1 slice you need
16 droppers
18 observers
a lot of hoppers
( its verry expensive in comparison to yours )
Looks really expensive.
Couldn't the elevator be water?
You spit out the item in water and it flows to the top where a hopper collects it.
It won't be as compact, and you probably need to place the water columns in a zigzag pattern but the amount of observers used here is just not reasonable in a survival world
Help! At 14:05 you explain the button redstone touch flikkers for a split second but mind doesn't when I turn them on and off. why is that?
For the hoppers side, I ended up doing alternating torches to cycle it
It cycles pretty quickly though so I have to figure out how to slow it down
Put all 8 repeaters on two ticks … as in place it and hit it one time. Slower but I have no issues at all just make sure to turn it off time to time logging off and on some times causes it to stop the clock or extend the power.I have three of these on my realm all working great just made the third one yesterday all flawless
Bro can you make smelter with fuel as lava which use stack of furnance or more in bedrock
those this work in java?
I’d like to know that too
If I want to have this linked up with a single item sorter, I'm wondering which should be first on the input line...
Now I can destroy that carts nightmare that I have in my world!
Do you have to put stairs in between? Or will it work with just chests on top of each other?
Yes you have to have the stairs in between. If youre looking for a different version silentwisperer has a similar design that worked for me in a previous world.
The item sorter is nice. But its extremely resource hungry. Not exactly practical in survival
Thank you for this! (great project) Ps. I build 128 silces ;)
really like the design with 150 chest will it be laggy for a server
I build it.. But.. Do i need fill all space in target box minimum 1pc same material or sorter can sort eaven any space in box will be enpty?
It is possible to get the map link to download it please ? It will help a lot to interstand some part.
1 reason not to do that is the noise, he wanted it to be silent. But yes it has been done.
idk if its my horrid nintendo switch but when i put my items in the sorter they just get lost and dont even end up in the overflow chest. i checked every hopper and dropper and couldnt find my items. yes, i already slowed the tic speed but it didnt seem to help. i dont know what wrong with mine please help :(
uodate: just bought minecraft for my computer and jioned my realm, still no luck with it
How much redstone did this cost? (I know it’s a lot to calculate but if anyone happens to know I’d love to know how much I need to collect beforehand)
Anyone have problems with hoppers that are attached to boxes that are full like the first box it won’t go down to the next hopper
Just started wating this video and Holy observer batman lol
My items are getting stuck in the first dropper in the system, it worked when I had the 2 slices, once i extended it, it didn’t wanna move up the droppers
I have the same issue but can’t solve. I find between each observers tower (every 15) they aren’t the same timed as the first lot and my items get stuck im the hopper for the first chest. If I destroy the red stone torch on the second observer tower the items will them drop down the hoppers.
Any solutions? I can’t figure it out and I want to expand it 60 chests long
Do you have a pack that chess are no longer lag
Please what is this bedrock texture pack? I see it all the time and I never know what it is and it is so useful for the hoppers.
Just starting to look at this stuff. But has anyone hooked something like this to a bunch of auto farms?
We got lucky with the rails and we're facing the perfect direction to not need your rail trick 💀 saved time forsure
** Sorter not working **
As soon as you try expand up to or/ past 15 blocks and create the second observer tower with red stone torches it causes the items to get stuck in the hopper just before the first chest. I haven’t found a solution but I noticed the red stone timings are not in sync between the observer towers. For example Once I remove the observer tower top torch the item will then filter down and then get stuck again. Repeat a section lower and item will drop.
Any solutions as I want to expand this 60 chests long?
I’m having same issue
i made this item sorter and its works perfectly but just for 2 slices and for the rest the items dont know where they go? as far as inhave checked everything is correct , it seems i must have made a mistake in hopper system , can anyone help? please?
I might be able to help if you still need it... but not without more information.
It dosnt work in 1.20.2. observers dont flick redstone torches anymore
My items get stuck in the first slice. Any advice?
Edit: i fixed it by connecting hoppers to droppers at the top of every slice. Something he forgot to mention until time stamp 34:08
It broke idk what I did but the items keep going to the wrong chest
hey does this work on laggy servers?
i built one of these by silent whisperer but it broke on the server idk if it was lag or cos it was a year old tho
Oh and I play on MCPE, not sure if that matters since it’s all bedrock.
How well will this work on a realm?
It works on realms but I had to add another tick on the clock to slow it down more or it just wouldn't sort. Then it wasn't silent. the constant tick sound was enough to make me turn the sound down when it was running.
Question: can you use barrels? I know they hold half of a double chest but I like the aesthetics of the barrels.
I mentioned this in the video. Yes you can :)
Una pregunta funciona para la 1.21
I don't know if you mentioned it or not but, does this system simply put items in the chests or does it actually sort them?
This would use a lot less blocks if it just put items in a Chest, I could do that with a dropper and a lever lol
Soooo this I made a small error, I built this whole thing on java only to realise that observers and torches do not work the same...... any work around? Anything I can swap out? Or rip it all down and start again?
i did the same thing. i have no idea how you can fix it.
@@goalgamer5598 at least it was not just me then 😅
Same here man
I have everything done except the very top where the top of the droppers are. TIA
I have the same issue but can’t solve. I find between each observers tower (every 15) they aren’t the same timed as the first lot and my items get stuck im the hopper for the first chest. If I destroy the red stone torch on the second observer tower the items will them drop down the hoppers.
Any solutions? I can’t figure it out and I want to expand it 60 chests long
He mentions a redstone tower on the opposite end to extend past 15 slices at 33:49.
I finally figured it out on my own by trial and error.
@@damienj2400 I hope you can figure yours out damienj. I haven't tried going beyond the 15 slices yet. I'm just relieved to have the first 15 working properly now. Maybe deadbeatdon's reply will help you out.

I got it working temporarily I have 240 chests in total of stackable items.
I haven’t used bells before.About to find out if it is I’m replacing it straight away 😂
I wish I had a layout plan before I started as I have been adjusting constantly especially when I then added the non stackable items within it 🤣🤣
Does not work, also was I supposed to make a slice for the not filtered.
i keep re-checking every component of mine. it have items that just get lost in the various droppers, they just sit in there forever. anyone have thoughts?
As I said yesterday, I'm planning on writing a comment to explain all my tweaks later this week. (Including how to get it working on Java!)
@@DrO9280 Hi, did you figured it out?
Hey there, Outrageous video, but I do have a question. Is there any way to alternate it into java edition? I already build that, and i forget, that redstone torch cant be powered off by observer :/
I just did this! Ugh!! Did you find an alternate solution?
Can this be built on the nintendo switch
Is it possible to build a second section on the side(where the overflow is)
Yep, you build it all exactly the same, just make sure you hook up the same clock to that observer tower powering the redstone, and the elevator slices
@@Prowl8413 thank you sir
