I would love for them to add a pet quest to domesticate a chapaa. Maybe something like craft a special smoke bomb using rare ingredients to catch a wild chapaa. Then take it back to your homestead to tame it with pets and gifts. Maybe even customize it after its tamed with different dyes so the chapaa pets look different than the wild ones. And once it's tame and customized, you can equip it. I think that would be a fun quest that would allow everyone to experience having a pet, but still reserve the exotic animals like cats for the premium store.

Something they said they wanted to launch with but had to hold back. I feel like they saw the outfits not selling as well as they'd hoped (I mean.. $20 for 1 single outfit is outrageous!) so now they have pets locked behind shop purchases to make people pay money.. Kinda feels scummy.
Yes, however it's still not right to put features behind paywalls when the devs stated only cosmentics would be in the shop. What is next, them putting bigger chests/bags in the shop? crafting stations? mounts?? Where do you draw the line in the sand as to how far they should be allowed to go? @@anahenriques.

I think i'm in the boat with people that WANT to like this game. I've spent a lot of time in it recently and I'm amazed by so many people enthralled with the grind. As a person with 2k+ hours in Valheim, I'd convinced myself the first few hours of playing Palia that the company was a small indie one like Iron Gate. My honeymoon phase ended when I finally looked into them and the game's production, something I'm annoyed with myself that I haven't done in all the years I've been awaiting this game. I honestly will not believe that almost 200 people have spent 5 years on this until I see pay stubs.
They say they will only monetarize cosmetic which is essentially 'looks' and appearance. The concept and mechanics of pet is not cosmetic but the skin of the pet is. Pretty sure there will be free pets given out as rewards for events, quests or for special holiday occasion like Christmas etc. But those premium shop pets will be exclusive in look and only avail in premium shop. In future they may add a new skill call Pet grooming whereby you can catch pet in the wild or rear new pet out of the pet farm. Who knows?
I'm super disappointed and frankly shocked (given the backlash they've already received about the coins and cash shop) that they locked pets behind a paywall. Could I afford it? Sure, no problem, but it's the principle for me. I already didn't like the fact that you can only get new outfits via the cash shop. I'd be more than willing to buy stuff if they didn't lock things exclusively behind a paywall but I'm definitely not going to support this type of business practice. Like, I dropped $100 on Diablo 4 and I still bought 1 outfit from the cash shop, and far be it from me to use Blizzard as any kind of a good example of anything, but at least in D4 you can earn awesome looking in armor in the game and it's not restricted to *only* the cash shop.
It's a free to play game, there's going to be things to buy in premium shop because the devs need to make money somehow. That being said i wish it was only cosmetics in premium shop, or that there is a free version of the pets that get released at some point

A battle pass with new furniture, emotes and bundles of resources. Make it free but with a premium track that you pay to unlock, like most other battle pass systems. I could honestly care less about the pets. I know how not to spend money in a game and still enjoy it lol What I'm not okay with is how much they nerfed the spawn rate of several items across the board. People are going along the beach for hours on end and not a single oyster to be found. I knew they'd reduce the spawn rate because of all of the videos coming out about how to make money but I did not realize it'd be to the extreme lolol
I'm a solo player, none of my friends care to try to game. Now I am faced with struggling to make gold even more. Hunting=Nerfed, Gathering=Nerfed. I honestly do not have it in me to struggle in this game for days on end and still not even have enough to afford the last bag slot. :/

The keyword is 'accelerated'. Starting the game, I can barely make 100 gold per irl day. Now with all the investment in farm, preserver and all the machines etc, and improved tools from upgrade, I can easily make 5-figure amount of gold per irl day. The acceleration is insane. IT is compounding. I make 25,000 gold in just 2 days from passive income from my farm and the machine product and I spent it on storage upgrade. I am now looking at the next 100,000 gold storage upgrade which I know I can easily earn the amount in less than 2 weeks. So on reflection, things are not really that expensive after you have progressed into the game.

I think more people are upset that they are doing things they said they wouldn’t. That said, I think people don’t understand how free to play games work. I voted in a poll on Reddit today for DDV and couldn’t believe how many people clicked the option that they had no plans to ever make premium shop purchases with real cash- it was a crazy high number. I don’t know how those people think the game is going to exist if they are all content to play the game and use free moonstones but never want to pay in. If the same people are also playing Palia I bet DDV players nearly crapped a brick at $30 prices.

It's not, but to be fair, that probably has more to do with there being a lack of competitive content - or _any_ social content for that matter - than it is the community "just being awesome". Or to put it another way, I haven't really seen any toxic interactions because I've barely seen _any_ interactions.
I would love to try Palia but with my spine, I cannot play on a computer, so I will wait for when it's on the switch. The pets look really sweet. Many people forget that the only way for the company to get money back is by micro transactions.
Honestly, that may be the better move regardless. The game is very charming and I feel is off to pretty good start, but it's also very limited in its scope of content. You might have an even better and more complete experience waiting until the Switch version. And obviously, I'm sorry to hear about your situation.
As someone who comes from the Sims and is tired of EA’s cash grabbiness, I don’t mind the pets being a payed feature. It’s *not a gameplay feature* and thus far they are keeping their word about gameplay not being locked behind a paywall.
It's a free game with a ton of content without pushing purchases in your face. Pets are cosmetic and I'm sure they'll likely have some sort of free event participation reward version. I'm sorry but I have zero sympathy for people playing a free game and complaining about not getting more free stuff.

Yea, the prices on those outfits are just silly. They should be 1-5$ for a set, and then have like 30-60 different set's up there. More people would buy them cause what is 1-5$ , and then after they buy one set, there is a lot less issue buying more then that. On top of that, there would be more variety of how people look, so individuals can be individuals. Cause that is the whole motive behind buying that stuff in the first place. As to the cat. /shrug I get it, but like I posted earlier should have given a basic one for testing purposes to see what happens and how the servers/clients behave when everyone has one. Hassian's pet is a hunting pet aka combat pet. Our is domesticated pet, mere pussy. I certainly looking forward to companion system where we can group NPC and hunting pet as a group.
Well, id rather have them where you can some how ride them to move faster around or pet leveling maybe. I dont know maybe let them do a certain things like collecting for you. Having an extra storage they carry incase you run out of space.

The "fix" to inventory is BS IMO.. Hear me out.. Have you ever done furniture?? Seriously have you? You need so many different materials just to do that. Have you done any cooking, ok that one isn't too bad. Have you done any farming? Ok again not to bad to keep a base set of seeds. The thing is all of these things add up fast. Easily hitting that 3k. I to my annoyance hit over 1k looking at my inventory going what is taking up all of this room. To later have me hit over 2k looking WHAT is taking the room? I don't have huge stacks of anything, ok fine the low level wood I have 250 wood beams for crafting furniture but still I am left with the thought of WHAT IS TAKING THE SPACE. Sell them cheap (like 1-5$ but lots and lots of skins. That way you get people more easily opening their wallets to buy a skin, and once they buy one.. Well it is only a few more $$ for the next. So on and so forth. You get WAY WAY WAY more money that way, then the exceptional person willing to drop 20-30$ for 1 set of skins.. Just saying. Do it smarter, not harder.
Ya, just uninstalled due to the update. - It's a shame. I had tier 2 chests (6,600 storage space), lv10+ for every profession along with a full set of Palium tools, a glow worm farm producing 100 worms every few hours and a pickled potato bar that gives 402x Focus consumables every hour (yay, no cooking required!). For me.. the cash shop was already predatory/lacking and then they locked the new pets behind a paywall, while also reducing hunting mob spawn rates. The game looks like it's going in a bad direction and isn't adding things to build communities. Of course, I may just be using this update as an excuse to uninstall.. because Wayfinder comes out in 2 days. lol, the world may never know!
Oh indeed, I'll be able to come back in the future.. but in terms of "cozy" MMOs. I'd prefer to return to FFXIV or even GW2 first. Palia is a good game, but it's also in Beta at the moment. So it's very hard to maintain a reason to play, let alone hang out with any friends in-game due to lack of features. @@catfinateddestiny

@@aemon-oni yes 🥹 I had a cycle and routine in game of farming my crops at 6am, then going hunting for sernuk and mining/ foraging until it got dark and then at night going to get oysters/ shells. Sometimes people did fireworks in front of the tavern at night but night is so bright now and the colors are bringing about my headaches 😞. No Sernuk except for 1 or 2 in an area that used to feel like being in nature now feels like there isn’t enough resources for everyone. Not to mention no oysters spawning at all and there’s a quest that needs a pearl.
True but the DDV crowd screams bloody murder over anything that costs more than $5, even with getting a buck ton of free moonstones, so I don’t think they would take kindly to $30 cosmetic pricing needed to pay staffing to do what Palia is doing. I do agree they have an excellent system for dealing with fixes.
I agree but also isn't this game only available on PC at the moment? DDV have to make updates on all platforms it makes sense it takes a while longer for all consoles and PC can handle everything quick and easy since it's better hardware.
Definitely a good update with everything it has and yes, it's too soon to hate on them regarding the Pets. They'll probably do something about it in the future, Hopefully 🤞
Considering the game is free and avoids doing all the gotcha mechanics that you usually see, I'm cool with pets being only paid. I 100% suspect that they'll add a free one down the road. Also, the pets do/add nothing at this point in the game. Finally, I'd feel different if it was paid-only pets + premium currency to speed up awful timers + premium currency to restore energy + premium currency to upgrade your storage and so on. Having said that, just because the monetization seems fair now, doesn't mean it always will be.
Well, people will always be upset no matter what you end up doing but a free cat would’ve been nice in addition to the paid cat, but I’m stoked about all of the updates. I’m excited to see what the game feels like now.

This FREE game has 60-80 hours of content already, we don't have to pay a dime for any of it and we never will. I do not understand the entitled attitude of certain people who think they should be given more for free. The cat is pointless, you can't do anything with it, and 90% of the time you can't even see it. We paid cold hard cash for Dreamlight Valley, and a lot of it, and it will be free to play eventually. I would never have paid what I did for Dreamlight Valley if Palia had been available. Saying that, both games have given me more value than i have paid into them.
If it makes you feel any better, one of the new cosmetics was broken too! (they removed it from the cash shop within 30 minutes of the server going up).
They made the graphics look worse. Its 2023… anyone can own a half decent PC. This is a downgrade. Everything is washed out and overly brightened even running at epic on a 3080. The pets they gave us are dumb and come on… who likes cats!? 😂 kidding. But really - there’s SO much potential here. They should create an entire pet system, with training, leveling, and purpose. And please give us DOGS. and farm animals! And not the same model with different color skins. Please! They also need to reinvent the MMO aspect of the game. There’s no reason to group with people at all, with the exception of large flow trees, but small ones can be cut down alone. Everything can be done easier and more efficiently while alone. Professions need more levels and benefits, such as the ability to craft something as a master furniture maker, or exotic, rare animals that can only be hunted by master hunters, so on and so forth. The game is beautiful and there’s SO much potential. I hope they take it there!

People are ignoring the fact that they said it's something they're testing with more to come too. It's instantly assuming it's a paylocked feature rather than just offering earlier access for pets. Maybe I'm being overly optimistic but that's what it sounds like to me.
Locking content behind a paywall in order to force your playerbase to use your shop is wrong no matter what the game. Even more so when "cosmentics only!" were supposed to be in the store.
Personally I think the outfits are overpriced. IMO They should have 30-60 different outfit sets, and they should cost 1-5$ for a set. That will get tons more people opening their wallets/purses to buy stuff. Once they did that once, well we all know human nature and we will most likely do it multiple times. Netting them more money in the long run. As it is now, I am looking at the prices of that and going I could buy a game for that price, and that is JUST ONE OUTFIT SET. I’m on a lower spec pc and I’m amazed at the optimisation they’ve managed in the first major update. Not to mention the pets are adorable in game.

As to the cat. /shrug I get it, but like I posted earlier should have given a basic one for testing purposes to see what happens and how the servers/clients behave when everyone has one. We are testers at the end of the day, so why not empower them. Not saying it needs to be a nice looking thing, just something to test the servers.

Hassian's pet is a hunting pet aka combat pet. Our is domesticated pet, mere pussy. I certainly looking forward to companion system where we can group NPC and hunting pet as a group.
Well, id rather have them where you can some how ride them to move faster around or pet leveling maybe. I dont know maybe let them do a certain things like collecting for you. Having an extra storage they carry incase you run out of space.

But I still believe they will make pet avail to all since technically they did not sell pets at all. The current pet is given to those who bought Palia coin as a reward. They are not selling pet for Palia coin. The fact that they give it as a reward instead of selling it for coin means they will not be selling pet which mean they will make it functional or non-cosmetic in future.
An easier way to access your pets is through your inventory. There's a button for pets under your accessories.
The "fix" to inventory is BS IMO.. Hear me out.. Have you ever done furniture?? Seriously have you? You need so many different materials just to do that. Have you done any cooking, ok that one isn't too bad. Have you done any farming? Ok again not to bad to keep a base set of seeds. The thing is all of these things add up fast. Easily hitting that 3k. I to my annoyance hit over 1k looking at my inventory going what is taking up all of this room. To later have me hit over 2k looking WHAT is taking the room? I don't have huge stacks of anything, ok fine the low level wood I have 250 wood beams for crafting furniture but still I am left with the thought of WHAT IS TAKING THE SPACE. I liquidated all of my fish (sigh), I have a few bugs like 5 I will probably just place in my lot cause I like the looks but still I am at a loss of what is taking the room.

Oh the cats. /shrug I agree with you since this is beta, should have given everyone a stinky POS looking thing to test out what it would be like with everyone having one. Then the others as perks for supporting the game. I mean let's be real, servers cost money. Internet for them costs HUGE money. Support staff for those servers costs money. Dev's cost money. Designers costs money. All of the infrastructure in a business costs money. NOTHING IS FREE. SO yea they need to have a money income to keep the lights on. IF THIS was a single player game not on a server, the need would be dramatically less but it isn't so the need is more. We aren't communist where everyone gets paid 1 ruble/yuan a day and be happy about it or go in the gulag till you are happy.
MY Personal take on this monetization is kind of simple. Sell them cheap (like 1-5$ but lots and lots of skins. That way you get people more easily opening their wallets to buy a skin, and once they buy one.. Well it is only a few more $$ for the next. So on and so forth. You get WAY WAY WAY more money that way, then the exceptional person willing to drop 20-30$ for 1 set of skins.. Just saying. Do it smarter, not harder.
Ya, just uninstalled due to the update. - It's a shame. I had tier 2 chests (6,600 storage space), lv10+ for every profession along with a full set of Palium tools, a glow worm farm producing 100 worms every few hours and a pickled potato bar that gives 402x Focus consumables every hour (yay, no cooking required!).
For me.. the cash shop was already predatory/lacking and then they locked the new pets behind a paywall, while also reducing hunting mob spawn rates. The game looks like it's going in a bad direction and isn't adding things to build communities.
Of course, I may just be using this update as an excuse to uninstall.. because Wayfinder comes out in 2 days. lol, the world may never know!
I don’t think you lose those things on uninstall. Everything seems to be tied to your log in.
Oh indeed, I'll be able to come back in the future.. but in terms of "cozy" MMOs. I'd prefer to return to FFXIV or even GW2 first. Palia is a good game, but it's also in Beta at the moment. So it's very hard to maintain a reason to play, let alone hang out with any friends in-game due to lack of features. @@catfinateddestiny

@@aemon-oni yes 🥹 I had a cycle and routine in game of farming my crops at 6am, then going hunting for sernuk and mining/ foraging until it got dark and then at night going to get oysters/ shells. Sometimes people did fireworks in front of the tavern at night but night is so bright now and the colors are bringing about my headaches 😞. No Sernuk except for 1 or 2 in an area that used to feel like being in nature now feels like there isn’t enough resources for everyone. Not to mention no oysters spawning at all and there’s a quest that needs a pearl.

True but the DDV crowd screams bloody murder over anything that costs more than $5, even with getting a buck ton of free moonstones, so I don’t think they would take kindly to $30 cosmetic pricing needed to pay staffing to do what Palia is doing. I do agree they have an excellent system for dealing with fixes.
I agree but also isn't this game only available on PC at the moment? DDV have to make updates on all platforms it makes sense it takes a while longer for all consoles and PC can handle everything quick and easy since it's better hardware.

Definitely a good update with everything it has and yes, it's too soon to hate on them regarding the Pets. They'll probably do something about it in the future, Hopefully 🤞

Considering the game is free and avoids doing all the gotcha mechanics that you usually see, I'm cool with pets being only paid. I 100% suspect that they'll add a free one down the road. Also, the pets do/add nothing at this point in the game. Finally, I'd feel different if it was paid-only pets + premium currency to speed up awful timers + premium currency to restore energy + premium currency to upgrade your storage and so on. Having said that, just because the monetization seems fair now, doesn't mean it always will be.
Well, people will always be upset no matter what you end up doing but a free cat would’ve been nice in addition to the paid cat, but I’m stoked about all of the updates. I’m excited to see what the game feels like now.

This FREE game has 60-80 hours of content already, we don't have to pay a dime for any of it and we never will. I do not understand the entitled attitude of certain people who think they should be given more for free. The cat is pointless, you can't do anything with it, and 90% of the time you can't even see it. We paid cold hard cash for Dreamlight Valley, and a lot of it, and it will be free to play eventually. I would never have paid what I did for Dreamlight Valley if Palia had been available. Saying that, both games have given me more value than i have paid into them.
Enormous patch..... Bruh this is a garbage update and on top of that they pushed out more! Cash shop items over fixing broken quests and fixing nodes.

If it makes you feel any better, one of the new cosmetics was broken too! (they removed it from the cash shop within 30 minutes of the server going up).

They made the graphics look worse. Its 2023… anyone can own a half decent PC. This is a downgrade. Everything is washed out and overly brightened even running at epic on a 3080. The pets they gave us are dumb and come on… who likes cats!? 😂 kidding. But really - there’s SO much potential here. They should create an entire pet system, with training, leveling, and purpose. And please give us DOGS. and farm animals! And not the same model with different color skins. Please!
They also need to reinvent the MMO aspect of the game. There’s no reason to group with people at all, with the exception of large flow trees, but small ones can be cut down alone. Everything can be done easier and more efficiently while alone. Professions need more levels and benefits, such as the ability to craft something as a master furniture maker, or exotic, rare animals that can only be hunted by master hunters, so on and so forth. The game is beautiful and there’s SO much potential. I hope they take it there!
I started playing last night, am enjoying it so far I’m just not used to mouse & keyboard controls on this type of game but will keep playing 😁 the cats are cool but I hope they bring out dogs next 🙏

People are ignoring the fact that they said it's something they're testing with more to come too. It's instantly assuming it's a paylocked feature rather than just offering earlier access for pets.
Maybe I'm being overly optimistic but that's what it sounds like to me.
Locking content behind a paywall in order to force your playerbase to use your shop is wrong no matter what the game. Even more so when "cosmentics only!" were supposed to be in the store.
$7 CAD for me to get the most basic one. And I can't even buy any clothes with that pack either. The cheapest outfit in the store is $14. It's a joke.
Personally I think the outfits are overpriced. IMO They should have 30-60 different outfit sets, and they should cost 1-5$ for a set. That will get tons more people opening their wallets/purses to buy stuff. Once they did that once, well we all know human nature and we will most likely do it multiple times. Netting them more money in the long run. As it is now, I am looking at the prices of that and going I could buy a game for that price, and that is JUST ONE OUTFIT SET. Also ignoring most of the sets look...... let's just say not something I would spend even 1/2 that much on.
