This has to be one of the best interviews of Robin Williams so well spoken on both sides

Given what we know now about Robin's actual dislike of having to be 'on' all the time I bet having a low-key, thoughtful interview like this was more meaningful than having to go bananas on the Tonight Show and so forth.

steve conn I agree. What I also find interesting is how Brian Linehan is as quick as Robin Williams in his knowledge and facts of his interviewees. You can tell even Robin was thrown off in the best way and reacting by laughing in the beginning. So awesome to see that kind of insightful and intelligent discussion like this.

i only cane across the Linehan interviews recently.
It's fascinating watching low key interviews of the heat comics like robin or Eddie murphy or Richard prior

Did he dislike being "on"? I met him once in the early 80's, maybe around 1982. And I did not ask him to perform or a picture or autograph or anything, and yet, he began to perform anyway while I was ringing up his purchase. I've seen interviews of him with his children and he says they ask him to "just be himself" because he tends to do the funny thing. I have no idea why he gave me a free performance. A couple of weeks later my co workers told me that he came in again but I wasn't there. I don't know why he came back because we didn't have what he wanted the 1st time

I supposed it’s what he was like with an audience instead of here where it’s just a 1 to 1

My guess is that few Americans ever heard of Heart of a Dog, let alone know what it's about. On behalf of all the former USSR: wow, Robin! You beautiful, beautiful soul. We love you!!!

It's amazing when I watch Robin Williams. I have a student who's in 2nd grade grade and did kindergarten twice. I've taught him for four years now. He has autism and is so artistic and so smart. He has a very good sense of humor too. He is like a Robin Williams mini-me. It worries me though when I watch his expressions and see his moods. He's so like Robin.

Robin Williams died way too soon I was shocked when I found out how he died. He was so talented, I ❤ that he made so many family friendly movies. He could do dramanic roles too, his impersonations are impressive. Watching this interview I can tell robin Williams was super smart.

Me too, but all that alcohol and drugs messes up your brain. And he suffered the consequences. Sad, but true.

Brian Richard Linehan (September 3, 1944 - June 4, 2004) was a Canadian television host from Hamilton, Ontario, best known for his celebrity interviews on the longrunning talk show City Lights.

Martin Short does a perfect impression of Brian. He does the character on SCTV and it's spot on. The bland one dimension of the man is brilliantly portrayed by Martin.

Does he give the character a different name? I ask so that I can do a search for it. Also, did you see he is also interviewed on City Lights in 1977 - so young!

@@Ma_Ba Yes, Brock Linahan. That's how last name written in the sketch. Many mistakenly spell it Linehan. Google either spelling both lead you to Martin's character.
I'll try posting a TH-cam link here so you can watch it. Dave Thomas as Bob Hope is his guest.

@@Ma_Ba I just watched Martin's 1977 interview. Thank you for suggesting. It was great seeing them together knowing Martin would be doing an exaggerated version of Brian on SCTV.

@@ThePhoenixSpaz Thank you so much! Thanks for going the distance with me for this. I had binged Martin Short - best talk show guest. I also am fond of the schtick he did with Carrie Fisher when they announced the award for best "short" film.

@@ThePhoenixSpaz That was illuminating. Spot on. He put his finger on not just mannerisms, but the dynamic. It explains a lot. Once, I saw one of the times he has Carrie Fisher on when Linehan reads her a poem she wrote at 15 which embarrasses her. He didn't relent.
