You should have read the book instead of only watching the film adaption. There are many more stories and chapters (like one dealing with Edgar Allan Poe's stories), which are not part of the film.

Enjoyment isn't what I feel, however I really do appreciate watching this. If anything it truly saddens me, bc the message is ignored. Many have tried, to no avail, all in vain. Look at the Amazon Forrest which is considered just one of our most sacred Forrest/jungles that help our Earth their own Nation & the U.N. do nothing. No one really cares enough, it truly does "take a village" metaphorically to make a difference. Oh well, again may Padre God help us all. 🙏

The Martian Chronicles was on my 7th grade summer reading list for a gifted school back in the late 80s. My mother looked at the list (full of great classics and interesting reads), and said she read Ray Bradbury’s The Martian Chronicles, liked it, and I should give it a try. I’m 50 yrs old now and have been in love with Bradbury’s stories ever since❤. Thank you for uploading this series… I watched it when I was a teen and loved it as much as the book!! 💙👽💙😍👏🏽

Gracias mil. Un abrazo. Héctor Gómora.

Not a movie but a TV mini-series. I never read the original 1950 novel. Everyone thought Mars and Venus were habitable. One was maybe a bit cold, the other one a bit warm. Those ideas were brutally put aside when REAL space travel and planetary exploration started... Yet I did enjoy the series on TV. Although even by then it was not likely human beings would soon be walking on Mars.

Two things that always stuck with me were the open title music and the scene at the end when Rock Hudson meets the Martian and they discuss the meaning of life. Simple, understated dialog that communicated so much in such a short scene. No flashy effects, no CGI overload, no blaring music. Just two completely disparate characters meeting, finding common ground, and both going away a little wiser for their encounter.

He had it right from the beginning, I think a lot of us would feel the same way he did, I know I would. Too bad he was written off as a murderer, he could have added so much to the story. Very satisfying to see him knock Biggs into the canal. Some parts did seem fragmented but I never read the book, guess I'll have to now.

So, even after watching the show a few times since then, in my memory, it is still a B&W show! Funny how our brain works. I remember being terrified when the Martian puts on his mask (I was 11) and also amused when I saw his weapon which, for me, looked like an umbrella! Great story, much deeper than it looks.

I think this was shown in Britain in 1984. I watched it as a young teenager. At the time I thought it came out of the distant past, featuring as it did forgotten stars like Rock Hunter, whom I had seen in the movies from the early sixties my mother watched, or Darren McGavin, who was in Kolchak, the Night Stalker, another period piece of extreme antiquity. From the vantage point of over forty years later, I see how recent they had been when I was first exposed to them. What a magnificent program this was. I have never forgotten it.

Great series, read the book at school "The Silver locusts", this is classic Ray Bradbury. Not an easy TV series to acquire, 45 years on, I still love it. Maybe I could also look up Rock Hudson in World war 3 (1980). Both series ended the same way.

Although I particularly liked the book much more, I must say that these "Martian Chronicles" are very well done and manage to preserve the essence of the message that Bradbury wanted to bequeath us in his literary work. "Martian Chronicles" is much more than the story about colonization of a planet, is a set of philosophical teachings much closer to our "day to day" than to the first...
For those who have just discovered this literary gem through this film, I hope that it fascinates and dazzles you as it did for me quite some time ago when, as a young man of seventeen, I had the enormous pleasure of reading it for the first time.

I read the book in high school, about 50 years ago. Ray Bradbury was a great science fiction writer whose real life predictions about the future were amazingly accurate. The Martian Chronicles were very thoughtfully written and I enjoy this mini series very much.

Wow!! I remember this coming on back in 1980. What an amazing event. The good ole days. Who recognizes and remembers the guy from the 2nd expedition? Nicholas Hammond. He was Peter Parker/Spiderman from the live action tv series back in the late seventies. These stories are just brilliant and the subject matter, timeless.

I thought the same, bc I was so young, just 22 in 1980. However, it sadly was a continuation of how deceived we were in how Society & the world just ignored series & movies like this that Mankind must take care of our own universally instead of looking for other planets to repeat the same exact mistakes n with quicker actions via Technology. 😢

Apparently, when Bradbury wrote the book by 1950, scientists thought there was vegetation on Mars and it had a breathable atmosphere. By the time this miniseries came out, the Viking expeditions (mid 70s) had concluded it was not breathable.

One of the best things a high school teacher could do was make us read this book when we were 14 years old in 1995, which captivated me and I finished reading it in just 5 days. I didn't know there was a series of this book. Personally, I would have liked to see the elimination, I think, of the real third expedition, when they are all considered crazy and the Martian himself commits suicide believing he is contaminated by human madness. Furthermore, if I remember correctly, Genevieve Selsior was not a sensual and exciting woman (in the book, that's how Driscoll imagined her because of her nice voice) but a very fat woman, who when he found her was eating cakes and candies and her mouth was all dirty with chocolate, and he flees in terror. I seem to remember that those lines ended with something like "And just in case, Driscoll never answers a phone again that rings alone in the city" hahaha!!! Later, some long shots that contribute nothing could have lasted less, but in general, the mini series is supported by the messages it gives, for which neither a AAA production nor millions of dollars in special effects are needed. I don't deny that it would be nice to see it like that, but this is enough. Thank you and greetings!!!

I have watched this quite a few times since originally watching it in the early 1980’s and never fail to be stunned by the costume and production design.
Sure, some of the models and effects look a bit dated now, but when it gets things right, the atmosphere is superbly eerie and powerful.
