Ya, was a pretty gnarly one. He recovered really nicely though, and it's actually kind of crazy that if you really look, he instinctively broke his fall somewhat with his feet, and then his arm. If theres one thing I've learned, professional athletes, or just people who have done certain sports all their life know how to bail gracefully, but it's all instinctual just from years of learning from falls, and meditation/reflecting. Crazy story, but after about 10 years of not skating at all myself, I got a longboard at the thrift store, and was with a buddy, literally first say on any sort of board after 10 years, and so I'm like. "hey dude, watch me bomb this hill", because in my head I really did have the confidence, and was just exited to be back on a board, so I had some adrenaline, but it was also so dumb, because I wasn't even warmed up, or stretched, not to mention I'm like 70-80 lbs overweight, and the board wasn't dialled in for me, but anyway, so I bomb this hill, and just about make it, but near the end the board just starts to speed wobble like mad, and in my mind it was a decision to just jump off, and kinda roll/slide out, or try make it, so I fully committed, but within half a sec I legit got launched off the board head first, and probably about 10-12 feet lol, but somehow I managed to do a whole front flip, and tuck n roll out of it, but I still came down on the back of my head, and my heels slammed into the ground. I was just laying in the middle of the road, and my buddy thought I was dead for sure lol. I ended up with a pretty major concussion, and my right heel's been fucked ever since, but I'm just glad all the years of skating, and motocross, hockey etc paid off, because my body knew what to do instinctually. It could have been way worse for me.
@@jamescassidy4045 i basically had to do what you did, got to the bottom of the hill but couldnt bail (i was also a beginner so didnt even know how to) and nearly rode out the speed wobbles but ended up with all the impact on my wrists. both fractured but they're fine 5 years on im yet to land and hit my head. or my tailbone, but its only a matter of time.
Nice channel man. This is what skating has become for me at 53 years old in the UK. I can't do nearly all the stuff I used to do as time has moved on. That doesn't matter. I just go to a spot, have beer, warm up a bit, do a few tricks, have another beer, maybe a smoke depending on location, have a skate for a few hours and just chat to other skaters and random passers by. Its pretty cool. Glad I started skating all those years ago at 14 years old. She's been a cruel yet loving mistress lol. Great stuff man. Thanks for the vids.
That slam tho. Harewood loves you bro. I’m 28 and I hear you getting back on the board after anything more than a month is PAINFUL but always worth the effort. Grounded eagle approves
The second your video started i instantly recognized the ol BTubs Marsh. Loved that place when i used to live down the road from it. Thanks for the trip down nostalgia lane with this whole video💚🤘
Dude, I was just about to say watching you skate big stuff out alone makes me nervous and then that slam happened... Glad your good. I'm 100% here for this though.
Man you're giving us the real recipe here! I don't even skate, I don't drink or smoke anymore, but I enjoy watching your sessions. Take care of yourself!
Hey I've met you a couple times at the skateshop. Funny stumbling across your videos. Great stuff. Cool to see some quality local island skate adventures. I'll have to roll through soon and get a pair of those new Asics.
Took that slam like a boss, love the videos dude! as a PNW skater I feel you on how hard it is getting a session in fall/winter due to the rain and daylight. Keep it up man❤️❤️
I haven't skated in 15 years, but recently, I've been feeling the pull to send it. Your video kind of feels like the impetus to do it. I think I might wait til after the winter, though. Cheers.
I haven’t filmed skateboarding for about a few decades. Just defrosting some soup rn and i really enjoy the pacing of the videos you make. Ya I would probably watch at least a couple more.
I recognize this loading bay. That’s by McLaren, or just up from Tim’s car lot. I wrecked my foot doing an acid drop off the pig 21 years ago. Wild to see a fellow Nanaimoite on TH-cam.
as a 47yo, sometimes skater(still), i really enjoy watching this kind of Lone wolf sk8r vdeo of yours.. keep em coming.. i still drink & smoke, so i can relate❤
I was all the way in Anacortes a few months ago... would have loved to check out Canada but no passport and tight work schedule. Keep up the content... gnarly bail
Damn mate, your warming up at pretty hectic spots! Love it mate. The slam was intense.Love the spot search and the skating mate. Plus the brew and the durrie to finish 'er up... Legend mate.

I grew up In Tudor gardens and did many firsts in the parking lot that parallels buttertubbs marsh. Tudor gardens was a fucked place in 2001 I'm pretty sure every single person who wasn't elderly where crackheads. Matter fact a majority of the old folks where also hittin the pipe. Surreal ass content to see my old hood on TH-cam like this,wow.... Thank you for what your doing bro pls don't quit making these. It's crazy nostalgic and brings me a meditative like zen that nothing ealse really can. ❤😶🌫️☺️ Your a fuckin Gem sir. P.S You took that narly fuckin bail like a captain bro were in our 30's and that shit hits way harder now then back in the day. 🍻
“well i think thats….kinda what ya get….when…u try to skate a dumpster…in a back alley… in canada….when you haven’t skated for a month(10 days)” too real like a modern day diogenes
Nice running and pushups. Skating was tight as always. Handled the bail with dignity. Kind of too bad the ground was so rocky so you couldn't warm up proper after not skating for ten days. Cool nature spots. Thanks for the videos they are fun :)
Please don’t ever stop making these videos please
Also I live in Bellingham WA (basically Canada) and these videos are keeping me sane 😁
Word. Never stop man.
And don’t stop inserting all the classic tunes from people’s parts. 👌🙏🍻
Watching that slam shook me to my core.
ditto, i don't think i'd ever have the nutsack to skate a spot like that by myself

The winter can be a real tough.. just gotta make it to the other side.

Daniel James is an absolute legend. what a beauty. Love the videos.
That vibe of being solo in a strange little private spot. Resonates even as a beginner.
