A Newbies review: Union Mills LNER B12/3 Class

- Now then, it has been a long time since I last reviewed a Union Mills engine, but like with those this engine is still a superb runner, able to pull anything behind it without any problems.
Only downsides now is that it's going to be increasingly difficult to get one, since Union Mills has now closed shop, other bad points being it's simple detail, but that's not too bad as they do make good bases to put your own details upon!
These are solid reliable models if only lacking in detail!

Great review James. I love Union Mills locos, I am lucky enough that I bought four from them before they closed their doors last year. All run so well and can pull just about anything. Yes the detail is certainly not as fine as Dapol or Farish locos, but Union Mills tender engines are reliable, powerful and will run on anything (which is more than I can say for some of Dapols current designs) and they were very good value for money.
Cheers very much! And they are indeed very good runners, and do agree that some of Dapol's engines leave much to be desired with reliability, makes a case that detail isn't everything if it doesn't run well enough, hopefully another manufacturer with the same mindset comes along to make some more budget friendly models!
Hi James. Nice review. Terrible shame that Union Mills are no longer. They made some great locos.
Cheers very much Pete, and I do agree it is a shame, but considering how long he's been going I'm quite sure it's a well deserved retirement!
Hopefully in time, another manufacturer will cover the models he did in a similar range, but when that'll happen is another question!
Can ypu please review the marsh class 44/45/46 model kit
Just looked up the prices for all the bits, namely the chassis needed and unfortunately it's quite a lot for a one off build which I'd be unlikely to keep, though if it's just the body on it's own then would be more likely to have a go at it, but wouldn't be able to try it with the chassis.
If I can find the chassis at a better price, I'll see if I can fit it in somewhere in my schedule!
@@GosportRailworks ok thanks for the reply love your content and before I forget rapido uk trains will be releasing the class 44 in n gauge for 123 pounds but the release date is to be tbc probably some time in Q4 of this year or Q1 of next year
@@GosportRailworks but I heard that probably be releasing sometime in Q2 or Q3 of this year
No worries, and glad that you enjoy the videos!
And might see if able to review the Rapido Class 44 when it comes out, depending on funds etc as do have their SECR wagons pre-ordered already.
And (mostly due to Dapol), I'll always go with the later date just on the off chance things get delayed, though on their website it mostly lists it as TBA
If it's Q2-Q3 then might not be able to review it, but will keep an eye out to see when it pops up.
