Aha, you know the test code! As the console boots, press up+fire and then press down while still holding fire. It's quite universal, this isn't remotely close to the only game that code works for (multi-button games generally use the A button for that code).
Indeed, it works for pretty much all the HotGen developed ones. Some of the others have different codes, some have none. As an exception, I wasn't able to find a code on the HotGen developed Sesame Street, but I have a feeling that's because it only has 2 buttons and no stick, I wouldn't be surprised if, once the unit is dumped, it turns out there is a test mode, but accessing it requires buttons that don't exist on the physical unit.
yeah the GameKey one of this is less common (and the games seem to have been rather hastily ported from the older one, which ran on the earlier hardware type)
