Did anyone else just finish watching Francis and laugh when he made a comment about never having suffered from a Zombie outbreak and IMMEDIATELY think of Echo!!!!😂😂😅
Another thing to consider with the ice maker is the temperature of the water you put in. For instance, if you put in 95C water, it's going to take longer to bring the temperature to -20C to get the snow.
I found it easier to prechill water then drop zero degree water into a very cold area. Not sustainable for ever but. All I needed was ice, so it worked for me but snow isn't so easily made in oni.
It will forever be known as the "Zombie Thing of 2024". Also Klei needs to make things like that fire extinguisher movable like the hermits tool box and other things. Also, maybe mercury gas is our new Sour gas?!?! Thanks for the video!
Really the buff lasts that long? I was using a tub to chill hot water and didn't really look too hard at the benefits. I just liked that I could dump 99c water into it and with very little effort it would give me 36c water.
Yup, came here to say the same thing. There's no reason for 2 shutoffs, just use an Or Gate. It's one of the only times those things actually make sense!
@@sybrwookie Exactly what I was thinking, an OR gate would have been better to logically isolate the two conditions necessary to turn on the steam engines.
@@EchoRidgeGaming No, it can't? The idea is to separate out the wires like this... The only thing connected to the steam engines is the output of the OR gate. Then, one input of the OR gate will be connected to the thermo sensor; that same line can then be connected to the liquid shutoff. The second OR input can then come solely from the battery. This leads to the battery having no effect on the liquid shutoff.
With the updated ice maker, you can create a self-sufficient cool room at about 0 °C. I know that would be hot for this colony, but you could put the ice-makers in their own room, and not have to worry about ever chilling them if you have a few on heat-deleting duty, while others are working to make the colony snow
I have figured out the best way to do omelets early game. Use a storage bin. It's like a proto evolution chamber. Then when you drop all the remaining eggs into your evolution chamber you start getting BBQ right away. As an added benefit you don't need to worry about eggs for your incubators (though I do wish the dupes wouldn't always choose the newest egg to incubate). Great video, always appreciated. It's funny how overengineered my first volcano tamer is. Temp sensors, a debris chiller, and rail shutoffs. It's tempting to do some rebuilding after seeing how simple it can be, but since it's self powered I think I'll let it stand.
It's such a nice feeling when a system is working well. Nectar is a really sweet upgrade (ha!) for cooling loops, really flexible and available early. Only occurred to me this episode that's probably why it's a bit of a pest to get large volumes of it. Also kinda funny to me that many players, when accidentally uncorking a volcano, have a small moment of panic. You instead use it to improve your metal-poverty problem. :'D
One thing about the gym. Dupes increase their athletics a LOT quicker in the gym. Like 3-4 times quicker. And since ALL dupes needs to move fast... having them forced in the gym is more efficient time wise
im pretty sure, the fryer works without beeing in a kitchen, its just the warning notify (which i suppressed - mod) which may annoy someone. ice maker speed depends on water input temperature afaik, 95°C water takes longer than 1°C water. that may be the reason why you couldnt find exact g/s numbers
Ahhh i love watching your gameplays, there is something so chill on your voice and the way you explain things, i feel like watching modern Einstein playing ONI, thank you for the gameplays Francis!
You don't need all that to tame a metal volcano on Frosty Planet. I made a 4x4 room with only a sweeper and collector to get the gold out. The trick is to fill the room with 8 tiles of water, so that the gold exits the volcano already in it to instantly begin to cool it. I've been running it without a problem for over 500 cycles and the huge pile of gold at the exit is currently at -6F.
During beta testing I had a Iron volcano and I just created a ethanol steam chamber with a pool of mercury on under the ethanol. It worked like a treat for a few hundred cycles. I was actively trying my best to warm up the cold planet...it isn't easy. Maybe that's what I should have done for my community playthrough colony...meh 1000 cycles into that too late now.
Some insight, the ice cooler needs to chill the liquid to -20 always, starting with hot water has it run a lot longer than normal. Also, acording to wiki, it actually deletes heat in the end, negative 3,7 KDTU per second.
With the automation change to heat/power system. You may want to double check the saltwater input to make sure no extra water can be added to the system if the steam turbine output water is sent in to help cool the system-- I don't remember how that automation was.
If they did they should have sucrose be a large ingredient, not many uses for it. I was happy to see you could make sucrose with nectar but it is pretty labor intensive I guess I could make a boiler using a volcano.... 🧐 🤔 Oh damn. I need to open sandbox now. 3 birds with one stone. Cold nectar from trees chills turbine and hot refined metals then ends it's life as steam and sucrose. I wonder if it could work indefinitely without the need for and auqatuner? Auqatuners have always been a thing I dislike with steam turbines as they use up a lot of the power created by the turbines.
so in theory this could work but the problem is Nectar flashes at 160c, but if the temp ever gets over 230c the sucrose turns liquid at 186 and the liquid sucrose creates CO2. The margin for error is so tight that even a blob of liquid gold on a ball of sucrose "could" introduce CO2 into the tamer. I still think it could work with some automation, but that nasty CO2 buggers everything up. If it off gassed into something else and fell back into a solid I think it would be practical, but it is not looking good.
since the auto sweepers can use pitcher pumps, you should be able to automate the ice makers without dupe labor, but I could be mistaken. it wouldn't be the first time buildings have prevented automation
You can use gates to isolate automation circuits. For example, if you flipped the above/below logic on the thermo sensor, so it sent out a _red_ signal when you wanted the steam turbines on, you could connect it to the main steam turbine automation line (that connects to the battery) via a NOT gate, which then makes that a single-direction connection. And then bridge the original line over the steam turbine line and connect it as-is into an AND gate connected with the existing line for the liquid shutoff. When temp gets too high, the thermo sensor emits red, that gets inverted to green and turns on the steam turbines, and also turns _off_ the AND gate and thus the liquid shutoff. And when the thermo sensor emits green, it turns on that half of the AND gate for the shutoff (so it is then controlled by the atmo sensor output), and sends red to the turbine line, making that line controlled once again by the battery. And the NOT gate prevents the battery output from affecting the thermo sensor output line at all.
I follow your volcano tamer to the letter (I even put 2 steam turbines) and my auto sweeper keeps overheating (just the sweeper) it's made of steel like the conveyor loader and everything else which is inside the steam room and I really don't know what else to do XD the strange thing is I have another set up just like that and it works without any issue (both are aluminium volcano btw) please make a dedicated volcano tamer set up when you can, my plug slugs are starving. Much love.
Could you add a character to the start/end of their name to indicate which has frost resistance? Like "f-name" or "name-f" and just do that as part of your naming routine?
What about using the layered logic cable with the readers and writers? I remember klei adding it with the original logic update but I don't see anyone using it
Automation ribbon is only really useful in two cases: (a) you need to do a really long run of 3+ automation cables (e.g. from bottom to top), or (b) you need to run 2+ cables through a single tile due to some construction space limitations (e.g. too close to a hot zone).
Ice makers do not have a static time for making products. The temp of the input water dictates how long it takes. For best output you want to be putting in water as close to 0 degrees as possible
Dont you need some temperature check + bypass line for cooling setup? Otherwise you are risking that coolant will heat up, when refineries will start working?.. Like each of them will raise coolant temperature by 70°C, while double aquatuner setup will get rid of only 28°C...
Why dont u use a timer in example your Smartphone to time the icemaker? May be better than eyeballing it from 8:30 to 11:23 and doing wild math with the 600 sekonds divided by.. You get it 😅 thank for the Episode, i love your content. So i dont have to play and figger All that out.
I dont fully understand why one would put a smart battery on the geo vent. Its free energy. just let it run and make sure there is always enough steam in the room and wa constant waterpipe into the geovent maschine

The deep fryer works outside of a kitchen too! It just has the icon, but i haven't seen a recipe it won't make yet.
Make a hot tub, it saves them from wet feet and being cold for 3 days, and make a sun tan room, it makes them supper happy.

You don't have enough water to make the steam dense enough to keep the steel from overheating.

Late to the party, but I believe the Ice Machine time for converting Water to Snow depends on the temperature of water used.
