I've been following you for a couple of years now. Thank you so much for providing high quality technical content! (I'm using your video to remove the manifold and replace the CCV and coolant pipes right now) Many other youtubers attempt to provide technical content but the lighting/camera work or audio quality is unusable and they ramble on about themselves sharing little knowledge about the project at hand. Alternatively there are youtubers who produce high quality entertainment but skip over the details needed to actually do the job. I think you have found the right balance of good quality production combined with detailed information. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and allowing us the benefits of challenges as you learn from them along the way. You have some of the most helpful content on the internet for BMW owners. Keep up the good work!
I did this to my e46 but I waited til the quantity got so low the seller dropped the price by 70%. Ended up picking up some LED tail lights for about $80. Mine even came with OEM style inner trunk lights to boot. Super happy with em. Glad you like em. After that I swapped all the interior bulbs to LEDs as well as those inner trunk lights and the glove box light. I love the e46 so much that when mine finally dies, I'll probably just turn around and get another. OH, I also did my clutch last weekend too. Swapped the stock junk clutch for a Valeo Single Mass flywheel conversion with a sprung clutch, kept the CDV and I love it. Had to learn how to drive my car again over a period of maybe 1 or 2 days but it just made me fall in love with my car all over again. Thanks for these videos, I've really learned a lot. Also, would you consider re-making the oil consumption/oil catch can video? Not a ton of great angles in the first one, dark lighting, and I'm confused on where all the hoses need to go and where to put the check-valve exactly. I'll give it another watch, but I feel your content has gotten so much better since then it really deserves its own reboot. Either way, keep it up Jason!
I did the LED Taillight / backup light swap out about a year ago on my 2002 330ci. Got the Spyder setup. Definitely gets noticed. About two months ago, left side went bonkers, and after googleing, found the resistor pak was defunct. There is a company that sells a replacement, but was able to cut open the sealed box, resolder the circuit board, and wala, all good.
Great job Jason, looks really clean... for future reference, the side markers rock back and forth... once you push them back towards the rear of the car (I believe), they pull out easier. You don't actually pry them out.
Thanks for mentioning BMW will do the ground upgrade for free. This is the only video I've seen so far mentioning that. All the other DIY video's viewed have the car owner buying electrical parts and doing it themselves. I say let BMW Service pay for and solve their own problem when convenient. Thanks.
I love your content, but as the owner of an E46 I must correct you on your side marker replacement. The metal piece is simply a spring. Push the light forward towards the front of the car and compress the spring. The plastic lip on the light will now clear the fender. Now simply pull the rearward side of the light out towards you and release the tension on the spring. The light is out. Insertion is the reverse, insert the front of the light, push it forward and push the rear of the light in past its notch. Release the tension on the spring and the light is in. I don't know how you didn't break the light or bend the fender at the light cutout.
I believe the updated front face (2003 and after) have a screw like his. What you're referring to is the first few years of the e46 (1999 - 2002), commonly referred to as the pre-face lift model.
50sKid , no problem! I've had to replace mine several times, even had to replace the fender thanks to a deer. This car has the easiest lights to replace bulbs in, front and rear. My wife's Acadia makes you have to take out the inner fender liner. The dealer book has you taking off the entire front fascia, it's ridiculous!
Ik I am late to the show but man I love ur channel ur really helping me with my 328i e46 it’s my first car but anyways if u see this keep the good work up
My 2000 328ci has the yellow. Used a little light polishing compound on a rotary polisher and about 10 minutes later looked brand new. Not hard, hella cheap, and original Euro build.
IMO Just get brand new lens.... You will be restoring them less than a year or a couple months, all that time you can just have a new lens and not have to deal with that.
DMart BossMan, yeah you can do either way. I just saved enough to pick up the new headlight covers and seals by doing it. Those things DON'T polish out well, even if the turn signals do. But the real bitch is the f***'in fog lights. To get those nice either pull 'em and put a polisher on the bench grinder of start tossing cash.
I did the same but wired in the LED but once you polish the head lights it will all come together. I use mother's metal polish .after trying several things the mother's was like a gift from beyond I will never need anything different.Give it a go 50 you probably already know about it but if not... your welcome brother.
You do great tutorial videos. Thank you, and keep up the good work. I recently bought a '03 325i wagon... love it. I feel much more comfortable working on it after watching your videos.
I think the extra light that came with the tail lights is to add wattage to the line, making the ecu think it's a 55w circuit instead of whatever the led are putting out, so you won't pull a bulb out error light on the dash... If you don't like the light on in the trunk when you're driving around at night, you could put a load resistor(can't remember what kind, maybe 6ohm/50w) mounted near the trunk vents, one behind the amplifier opens to the outside air, and the one on the otherside behind the battery to keep them cool. Just another, more complicated, way to go. Like the lights. I think they looked great. As far as headlight lens cleaning.. . TH-cam does not have a lot, or even any good, videos on clear coating them correctly, including the wet sanding stages afterwards then cutting and polishing. What cleaning agents and sandpaper to use, how to use them, and how long in-between each step and what each step is for, are not discussed very often, if at all on TH-cam. If done correctly, they will look brand new. Plus, if people learn to feel confident in clearing over plastic and seeing perfectly through them after there work, they might be more inclined to try it out on their car paint, and get rid of the factory orange peel, or something. Anyways, thank for the video. And sorry for the long comment.
Nice video, I just stopped by to get a quick reference on taking them out, I decided to get the spyder lights to match my head lights. The front lights are a pain to do.
oh man, you dont like amber turn signals? im the opposite, i hate red turn signals. love love love amber turn signals. when i saw american cars in jamaica when i was a kid, i just couldnt get used to red turn signals. still cant. most def cant get used to clear turn signals either.
when i was younger i didnot like yallow turn signals but now i think they are badass and should be kept on a car. well, about rear signals they just look bad.
Also white bulbs on a clear turn signal and side markets are not street legal and illegal to have. You must need yellow/amber bulbs, if not be ready to get pulled over and cited.
You're not supposed to use white bulbs in white turn signal housings. Also the secondary turn signals come out easier when you just push them forward and then pull them out. No need to pry them out, because that might just break something. Otherwise good video 👍
Looks like you need new headlight lens covers, they do a lot more for the car then the lights you changed. It made the car look so much newer without yellow headlights.
Great video thanks for sharing! I'm going to have to replace my inner tail light as I broke it to access the trunk release latch when my keys were locked in the car. I noticed the Clear Turn Signal Bezels & Clear Side Markers links no longer work, if you fix these links please let me know...and thanks for all the awesome E46 content you create!
There are new design for the headlight, it looks like the new F series with U shaped angel eyes and square projector lights. Check em out pls i wanna know how well it projects the lights
Lo primero que debería de haber hecho es cambiar los faros delanteros, que se ven opacos. Es lo que yo haría en mi 330ci, el resto que usted a sustituido a mi me venía de serie, aquí en Europa, más las luces antiniebla. Saludos
I just got the same set up spyder brand. The indicator on my dash saying my rear lights are out is on. Idk if its the ground or what. Feel like that original ground should be hooked to something
Your vid is perfect and clear. But, the vendor's product does not seem to work with my 2004 330i. Plugged in the electric source and none of the LEDs lit up except the aux bulb for the trunk. Plugged the source back into the OEM and the bulbs lit up. Any ideas why? Has anyone installed this successfully and it lights up for your 2004 330i ?
Hey 50s kid, the stock headlight electrical connector on my 320i is different from my LEDs so unfortunately it was as easy as it was for you to plug and play, think I could wire it up myself? 🤔
Hey man I need some advice hopefully you can help me. So I just purchased a 04 BMW 330i Sedan an the headlights aren’t bright enough plus the lens are yellowish. Before I upgrade them I would like to know if I’m using them correctly so when I turn on my lights they’re low but if I push the stalk forward they’re brighter using the low beams like the white blue color but if I pull back the stalk the halo (yellow lights) turn on an it’s even brighter . I’ve been using them with the stalk pushed forward but on the dash it shows I’m using the high beams. I’m so confused and I’m thinking all I need is to upgrade my headlights but also can’t seem to find the right pair . Please someone or you lmk which setting of lights is correct and which pair is the best upgrade headlights ? 🙏
Hey I know I’m really late but today I was trying to change my tail lights to those but unfortunately I can’t seem to get it to work without having the extra ground cable connected as well is there any solutions that you may have?
Awesome vids man! Serious debate question though. I have a 2003 325i m56 sulev. I just got done servicing the intake manifold, replaced the disa and did a full coolant overhaul and it drives good now. My biggest concern about the car is that everyone tells me to ditch it due to the fact of the fuel system unit being so expensive. I have been told several times to get rid of it. Ideally, i would like it as a daily vehicle, i wouldn't mind getting another e46. As far as BIG problems, would you suggest i keep it or get rid of it? There is only 1 month left on my 15yr/150k warranty
Ok I plugged in my LED lights but it doesn’t turn on because my brown ground wire is not connected to anything. Where can I mount that too? I tried the bolts where the assembly goes in but nothings works and I tried the chassis
hi , i have a big problem with the tail break lights that no one can solve the problem ( went today again at the bmw dealer for nothing) my every day mecanic goes nuts with the problem to , the problem is my break lights are on every time i turn the car on and stay on all day , i have replaced the break pedal sensor , all the bulbs , the intire rear lights , check the fuses and nothing . obdII doesnt show any fault related . is the ignition switch related to this problem ? can you help me please im at the point of selling the car because it wont pass inspection with this problem this year . thanks bmw e46 coupe 330ci 2003 prefacelift .
Hi, I can see you have also lost the ring bezels around your front fog lights. It appears there are a few versions of the bumpers and this one seems much more difficult to find. Any idea how to search for these rings. There is also a little removable section below the fog lights. I have lost that as well - probably a curse from a cat or bird I may have accidentally hit in the past.
Hey. I would like to change my tail lights on my E46 facelift Touring to a LED light. I found a Led tail light on facebook marketplace for about 20 euros. One of them is cracked a littlebit on the left side. I have a perfect tail light lampshade, can i change it? Can i remove the cracked led tail light lampshade or you cant make it like on the headlight? Because there you can take apart easily.
I installed the same turn signals that you got as well however my right turn signal goes crazy fast on the dash. Its super frustrating . Any idea on a solution ?
(2003 bmw 325i)Recently had someone ram into the right back side of my car. They were most likely playing Minecraft before they realized I was stopped and had my turn signal on, but I ordered new taillights and rear bumper to replace. Where the headlight goes is too bent to put a new one in and I’ll my attempts to fix it have failed. Is there any way I could replace the back body of the vehicle?? Help would be much appreciated🙏🏻
I got the same tail lights on my e46 2004 but when I brake and release the brake pedal, my brake lights start to blink and turn off after blinking 5-6 times. All the leds are good so i dont know that it could be. Any tips?
This gon sound stupid but ion know shit, did u just put the old wires on the taillight cover or do u need a whole new bulb and everything because I just ordered a taillight cover but I’m just now realizing it has no wires
Hey 50s kid I’m having an issue regarding that EML no power/stalling issue. I cleaned out my ICV and it was good for a week but it happened again, I’m getting bank 1 and 2 too lean and a code P16A7, some guy posted a video on TH-cam showing the exact problem I have and his situation was clogged catalytic converters, do you think that is my issue?
I have a rapid turn signal problem on the right side of my E46. The dashboard lights say that there's a problem with the right rear tail light. Bulbs are working. I'm not sure what's going on

True they side forward and the rear pull out , the metal should flex to give the room for the rear slot to pop out.

Thanks, Your video helped me with my 2001 M3!
Side marker actually can push forward no need to use the screw driver, might cause other damage
Yes!!!
Not on facelift, there is a screw on facelift, and a push tab on previous models
Wonderful tutorial. I love the detail and attention you put into each video. Keep it up 50s Kid.

No resistors needed for running led? Or is it built in already?
Nice video and nice, easy upgrade. Looking forward to the fix to the headlights. My reflector bowls are burnt and really make the headlights dim.
My 2000 328ci has the yellow. Used a little light polishing compound on a rotary polisher and about 10 minutes later looked brand new. Not hard, hella cheap, and original Euro build.

No yellow light bulbs ? Are you keeping the clear bulbs for the front ?
Marius Marinas you here’s gotta get some yellow bulbs for that now that there’s no coloring.
Chrome Amber is best.
when i was younger i didnot like yallow turn signals but now i think they are badass and should be kept on a car. well, about rear signals they just look bad.
THANKS DUDE, I M DOING THE OPPOSITE THING, WHITE TO ORANGE!!
WHY

Having a short video of the lights at night would be very helpful.
50'sKid is ChrisFix father?
I actually like and subscribe to ChrisFix.
Nice description ... Thanks for the help 👍🏻
Looking for a good swap for taillights on 2001 325i 4 door sedan. Manufactured 06/01. Went to the site you linked but nothing for mine...
Looks like you need new headlight lens covers, they do a lot more for the car then the lights you changed. It made the car look so much newer without yellow headlights.
10mins with some wet&dry and 20mins with rubbing compound will cure those
the LED lamps that you put in the reverse light slot are accualy for the fog rear light because theye need to be more bright then the reverse ones
Thanks for this video! I was thinking of getting those tail lights. Show how they look at night!
well done now you have white indicators!
Looks great brother!
50sKid look on amazon for new headlight covers 25$ fit like a 🥊
great video I changed mine, (even with the planes...)
I love the way you covered the plates 🤣
Helped so Much Thanks my g
Hello 🤙🏻 from Azerbaijan, Baku 🇦🇿
I didn't understand the joke? What stolen car? )
Thank you for helping me
Any reason you didnt change the bulbs over to led?
Thanks! Just used this to replace the reverse lights.
There are new design for the headlight, it looks like the new F series with U shaped angel eyes and square projector lights. Check em out pls i wanna know how well it projects the lights
get some yellow bulbs for the fender lights ;)
They look really cool, are those lenses plastic or glass?
For those clear turn signals you need the yellow/orange bulbs.
Or don't and who cares? I got rid of the amber bulbs for clear bulbs in my clear housing. Cops literally do not give a fuck.
You don't NEED them...
Thank chap, this has really helped me, top man!!
You'll need some orange bulbs, or your indicators will flash white, not amber.
I like em white. Better than amber
White flashing . Nice.
For my e46 there’s no screw there’s a tab that needs to be released at the corner marker light.
We need another headlight restoration video.
Hi guys, 50sKidFix is here!
Thank u Man
Question for 50s Kid, do you have a video on how to change the rubber bushing on the rear sub frame for
a e46?
that is a question for the youtube search engine (yes i do)
Your vid is perfect and clear.
Hi enjoyed watching the video, can you send the links for UK viewers as well.
its cool ..but Chance de Front Lichts....Make Angel ayes 😃👍
Hey any possible way. You could show a complete install of a super charger for the 330i?
I have them on my 330ci and they look the dogs nuts
Did you have any taillight warning light on the dash after install?
Yeah when it was cold the right one lit up in the morning briefly but it went away and has been fine ever since.
Hi sir..after install aftermarket tail light, your tail light cover won't fit right?
Hey 50s kid, the stock headlight electrical connector on my 320i is different from my LEDs so unfortunately it was as easy as it was for you to plug and play, think I could wire it up myself? 🤔
Hey man I need some advice hopefully you can help me. So I just purchased a 04 BMW 330i Sedan an the headlights aren’t bright enough plus the lens are yellowish. 🙏
Will you ever do a vid for an angel eye install on the headlights
I have a 2003 330i and they told me there wasn't a recall for mine. So I'm stuck with the original ground. Any advice?
Does the bmw dealer still have recall in effect
Those taillights fit on a BMW 325xi?? Please let me know!!
Hey I know I’m really late but today I was trying to change my tail lights to those but unfortunately I can’t seem to get it to work without having the extra ground cable connected as well is there any solutions that you may have?
so the headlights werent upgraded even tho the title said so

Ok I plugged in my LED lights but it doesn’t turn on because my brown ground wire is not connected to anything. Where can I mount that too? I tried the bolts where the assembly goes in but nothings works and I tried the chassis

Hey. I would like to change my tail lights on my E46 facelift Touring to a LED light. I found a Led tail light on facebook marketplace for about 20 euros. Can i remove the cracked led tail light lampshade or you cant make it like on the headlight? Because there you can take apart easily.
Dead links bro thanks for the video tho!...
Hey 50s kid! Wanna make a video about upgrading the audio unit? (I still have the factory cassette player in mine lol)
Can we see this at night time? Pls
AlexE46 I too would really like to see these in a dusk and/or night time view. I'm on the fence about buying these exact lights.
I installed the same turn signals that you got as well however my right turn signal goes crazy fast on the dash. Its super frustrating . Any idea on a solution ?
a can bus compliant bulb will sort it
or error free

Great video man 👌🔥🔥🔥
Quick question, what camera do you use to film?
Sony AX33
50sKid thanks
I got the same tail lights on my e46 2004 but when I brake and release the brake pedal, my brake lights start to blink and turn off after blinking 5-6 times. All the leds are good so i dont know that it could be. Any tips?
This gon sound stupid but ion know shit, did u just put the old wires on the taillight cover or do u need a whole new bulb and everything because I just ordered a taillight cover but I’m just now realizing it has no wires
My e46 tail lights requires the extra ground that bmw recalled. I’m trying to figure out how to connect the ground wire on the new tail lights.
Did you ever figure this out?
4:42 I was thinking the same :D
i got mine in and had to ground the passenger side into the aftermarket leds, now they come on but they still read as burnt out, any suggestions?
What’d you ground it to?
it the led tail lights error free?
Hey 50s kid I’m having an issue regarding that EML no power/stalling issue. I cleaned out my ICV and it was good for a week but it happened again, I’m getting bank 1 and 2 too lean and a code P16A7, some guy posted a video on TH-cam showing the exact problem I have and his situation was clogged catalytic converters, do you think that is my issue?
You removed the side markes the wrong way
Can any1 tell me the diffrence,
Between the rearlights being orange or white?
Will bmw still fix the tail light even though it’s 2018? lol because if they can do that for free I’ll jump on that tomorrow!
I have a rapid turn signal problem on the right side of my E46. The dashboard lights say that there's a problem with the right rear tail light. Bulbs are working. I'm not sure what's going on
Switch the lights itll fix that a bulb is burnt
2:25 dude you just need to push it to the right
isnt the clear illegal
Those aren't led's by the way. They would've hyper flashed. They're just a bunch of small bulbs.
