currently dealing with this issue on the driver's side of my 986.2. This video is extremely helpful. I have already tested the switch, so down the rabbit hole we go.
I have exactly the same problem on my 2000 996 and after watching your video, ( Great job by the way) I am electing to ignore dealing with it. I live in California so I rarely use the heated seats in my G35 Infiniti anyway, Thanks for sharing your experience. You are awesome!!
Thank you MUCH for the detailed video tutorial. I have the same issue with my 996 and it’s super helpful to see how someone else dealt with it. Same as you, I plan to start by swapping the switches. Let’s hope it’s that easy....
Hey Chris - I got it from my local Porsche dealer. I checked their price against suncost, etc and it was priced right. The cushion comes with the seat heater element in it (but it is also listed available as a separate part).
It certainly could be. I'd start by checking the fuse - since that's the easiest thing to check. Then, possibly the switch. If those check out OK my bet would be it is the element in the seat itself.
I have a 2001 Porsche 996. Do you know where I should start if I have 12V at the fuse block drivers side but no power at the switch and no lights come on? Relay maybe?
Although there are the three components of the heated seats, I believe that you did not mention grounding wire malfunctioning. And you did not mention that there are fuses in the line as well. So the fuses often have to be replaced in addition to the seat foam with a new heating element in it. I'm surprise that the 911 has this problem when often, Mercedes-Benz often have heated seats that last a very long time. Why are the heated seats on the Porsche so vulnerable to breakage of wire burning out?
Could care less about the heated seats. My concerns is about the cabin heat. I live in North Georgia with COLD Temps. I need warm / hot cabin heat ! Please advise .
I never had to repair anything HVAC related on my 911, so I probably won't be of much help. I'd recommend checking out rennlist, in the 996 section. My guess is that I'd start by making sure the control panel and cabin temp sensor are working properly before you tear into the dash. But my gut feeling is that your problem lies with the flaps that redirect the air across your heater core.
Hi, was wondering how much you paid for the foam with the incorporated element at the dealer? I have the exact same problem on my 2001 996. Thanks and great diy!
Thank you I had the same issue on a 01 Boxster S and this video helped to diagnose the fault! Rear heating element in the seat had no continuity.

Hey Jess - good luck! I suspect it will be one of the heating elements in the seats as it was with mine.

Thanks for this video. Have the exact problem on my 02 996, so I’m headed out to troubleshoot!
I know this was long ago, but any chance you would share where you got the replacement cushion/pad?

Would this be the same for a 997.1? My driver seat heat does not work.

“Typically I’m more careful with my car...”. Amen to that! Love those lobsters on 996’s

Hey Cam. I'm not totally sure but relay is always a good place to start. They're relatively easy to check.

He did mention wiring. He said that typically does not fail unless your car had water or fire damage. 8:47
you speak really well
Thanks!

In the $155 range. You can find them online from dealers for slightly less + shipping. Cheers!
