      @Amber Arc Do me a favour...enter Klitschko vs Ray Mercer and watch the full fight. There you can see his insane power. Klitschko probably had the hardest jab in history and one of the strongest left hook and right hand as well. Freddie Roach who coached Mike Tyson and Klitschko said he punched harder than Mike Tyson and Manny Steward, probably the best boxing coach in history, who trained Lennox Lewis and felt Tyson on the pads as well and witnessed Foreman's power too said Klitschko hit the hardest of them all. Klitschko could PUNCH. I personally think he's the hardest puncher in history. The only reason he might not look so impressive is because of his style. Manny taught him to be much more cautious, that's why I'd appreciate it if you'd watch the full 37 minute video of him fighting Ray Mercer. At the time Ray was never knocked down or out in his entire career. The only time he was sort of knocked down was Holyfield. But you'll see Klitschko nearly knocked him down in round 1. In the fight you'll see Wlad going all out. Some of his skills like his right hand weren't as developed yet, but he destroyed Mercer with his jab and left hook. Just watch the video and form your own opinion after it. Chris Byrd fought both Wlad and Vitali and said Vitali is tougher, but Wladimir hits 3 times harder. His power is extremely underrated. I can't remember who (it's mentioned by the commentators in the mercer fight) but he said Wlad had faster hands than Tyson and he also worked with Tyson.

    I think people make the mistake of seeing Vlad fight he doesn't look that good then they get in there with him and realize he's much stronger and punched much harder than they thought

      Nah you're tripping. Wlad would be a good contender, talented maybe even when a belt but the X factor of the best in the 90s would beat him more often than not, they had that mental edge. Vitali however wouldve been a beast and highly respected in any era imo

    very interesting, Wlad did appear to struggle with Thompsons southpaw stance in this fight, it pretty much nullified klitchkos jab. Wlads next fight is with Tyson Fury who can fight southpaw or orthodox and often switches mid fight, and he has a 4inch longer reach than Thompson, so maybe Fury can actually trouble Klitschko ?.

    • @Matt-ou7tu
      @Matt-ou7tu 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The difference is fury isn't a natural southpaw. He might be effective fighting subpar opposition out of that stance but it will be interesting to see if he can do that against somebody as good as wladimir.

    Is Merchant trying to get across the idea that Thompson was playing possum here (45:09)? one of my favorite things about Larry Merchant's HBO commentary where the times that a boxer would either prove him wrong or just put him in his place.

    If there had never been a Wladimir Klitschko, Vitali Klitschko would be considered one of the greatest HW fighters of all-time. Most "casual" fans didn't know the difference between the two, but Vitali was SO superior to his younger brother that it's ridiculous. I actually feel sympathy for Vitali for taking a back-seat to his younger brother, when he was WAY better then Wladimir in every facet of the game.

      @ clinching has always been a part of boxing, especially heavyweight boxing. If you watch Tyson vs Holyfield or Lewis vs Tyson or Ruiz vs Holyfield those matches had alot of clinching. Wlad real problem was how thin and inexperienced his era was to where fighters didnt know how to work in the clinches. Too many excuses made for professionals if you're a world class pro fighter you should know how to fight out of clinches
