An amazing overview of the whole process of application. I will reiterate that the spreadsheet is very important, it gives you clarity. I made a spreadsheet and also had a jotter. Also, I will add: Contact professors early enough like from say April/May. This is because the competition is becoming tougher and a first come, first served principle most likely applies. I started contacting them in April, my first contact with my current professor was on 21st May for the next year fall term. Well done, Amara❤
This!!! 🔥 Just everything anyone especially a first timer needs to know about the whole process. I honestly didn't want the video to end, I was glued to my screen from start to finish. You legit have a great teaching skill. I Love You already. 😊 I'll definitely share your videos. Thank you so much Amara💌
Thank you for this video ❤️,do you recommend reaching out to professors if you’re not a PhD student? Like for example an MFA /MBA? Is it course specific 😅
I don’t think that’d be necessary for MBA programs because those are structured differently. I don’t know what the structure of MFA programs are though so I can’t tell.
Hi, Amara. I’m really thankful for your TH-cam video. It has been so helpful since I came in contact with them on here on YT. I have a BSC degree in psychology and I intend to do my masters in psychology or Public health. But, I’m scared of which to go for because most people keeping telling me that it’s difficult for one to get a job in either of those programs in the US after graduation. I don’t want to make a mistake I’ll regret later and I’d love to read your feedback. Thank you.
Yes, it might be difficult to get a job with those degrees but not impossible. I think it also depends on what school you go to and what field you focus on for your masters.
@@AmaraOsuji That's one of my fears-not getting a job after graduation. However, do you think one can make a career switch that's not related to their undergraduate course of study? I'm considering programs that have to do with Tech because I have experience with web design/ product design. But I’m not sure if they have funding for them.
Thanks for the Video. I would like to know how the interview is conducted. is it virtual, such as via Microsoft Teams or Zoom for students not currently living in the U.S.?
Hi, amara thanks a lot for this, the information was very insightful, my question is; as a RECENT graduate (2023). with second class upper 3.75 /5.0, in guidance and counseling, what are my chances in getting admitted for phd in counseling psychology? I have no post grad work experience except some volunteering i did while still in school….also Do I need to take GRE to increase my chance?
Amara i have a third class bsc and 3.20/ 4 Msc. Please which do you think i approach them with Amara? Another masters or direct PhD??? if you were the one.
I really can't answer this question because it's a very personal decision. There are lots of variables to take into consideration such as what your career goals are, your current situation, life plans and a lot more.
Check the ranking and acceptance rate of the school. Generally, higher ranked schools with lower acceptance rate = not a safe school. The combination of ranking and acceptance rates can tell you that the school is likely difficult to get into. The reverse is the case for the so called safe schools.
Hi. I’d say 2:2 and lower. But, that doesn’t mean that even a low cgpa can’t get funding. There’s definitely a school for everyone. You just need to package and present your application nicely.
Hello Madam 👋 My name is Ogechukwu, I'm 32 years old and I'm from Delta State, Nigeria. I came across your TH-cam page and then I decided to expressy worries. I have a problem, I graduated with HND in Civil Engineering from a Nigerian Polytechnic and I really want to know If I stand a chance of securing admission in one of the Universities in the USA? I'm really worried and I do not know what to do or how to go about it, I just want to know my fate and where I stand with my HND certificate. I have been running around TH-cam to find a solution but yet no solution and I feel like I'm stuck in my dreams until I came across your page and then decided to reach out to you, I'll be patiently waiting for your response, thank you very much. I want to know if I'll be considered for PGD or Straight to Masters, please I'm really worried and I'm confused, I need your help and assistance biko 🙏😢
Uhmm. If you’ll be working with someone in their lab/group then they’re your advisor. If not, don’t worry about the point about checking in with your advisor.
It could be a ton of different things, primarily the fact that professors get a lot of emails and they might not be looking for new students, they might forget to reply your email even after reading it or they just don't think you're a good fit and can't be bothered to respond. I would suggest sending a follow up email after about 3 weeks of the first one and if you still do not hear back, move on. Keep reaching out till you hear something.
Hi Are u studying a research course If yes How did u go about getting more stipends or jobs on campus Cos the stipend that come with the scholarship ehn Barely enough!
Hi. I don’t have an extra job on campus except the one attached to my funding (being a TA+RA). This already covers the 20 hours work limit🥲 I’m a PhD student so my funding is slightly better than that of Master’s students so I’m able to live/survive on my stipend. I don’t think there are honestly many other ways to increase your stipend but I know you could try getting fellowships or grants. The sad part is most times, these are available for only US citizens or permanent residents which sucks. Options are very limited but it is what it is.

Yes, interviews can be organized virtually
Thank you for this insightful piece of information sis. what are the requirements for emailing the professors?
There are really no formal requirements. You just need to introduce yourself and of course show interest in their work/area of research.

What about undergraduates ? Does the same process go by?
Am a Nigerian and wish to know the range of cgpa that Is regarded as low?
