Survival of the Dead is unlike a George Romero film. Unfortunately, I don't mean that in a positive way. It feels like a cheaply made zombie film that has no substance, and a very weak plot. Which is ironic considering that Night of the Living Dead had a small budget, but it still a groundbreaking film. Romero lost his touch after a while. He seemed to run out of ideas. His early films had memorable characters. But his final three films were easily forgettable. With all this said, I still respect the legacy George Romero left behind. I'll continue to watch his original films, not the last ones that felt short of his original vision.
Fun fact: Survival of the Dead takes place in the same universe as Diary of The Dead. Infact in one version of the Diary of the dead releases the soldiers from Survival of The Dead raids their camper and take lots of weapons.
According to my view Sarge Crockett survived and then he headed to fiddlers Green City in Pittsburgh coz he was seen in Land of the dead working as a soldier guarding the outpost
I kinda like the fake look kinda reminds ya of the old fun movies, I cant believe I am saying this because I never watch these type movies, but I plan on watching this, my wife will be thrilled she loves movies like this. I have played Zombies on Call of duty and that's what it looked like those guys where doing head shots, I will pass this on to a Zombie gamer :)
My top three Dead films are Day, Dawn, and Survival of the Dead why I love the story the characters were fun and the comedy and violence was hilarious it was straight up Looney Toons I loved it. This film will always hold a special place in my heart it was the first Romero zombie film I ever watched and I had a blast, and I watched all of his other great films afterwards. People should rewatch it again it’s so damn charming and the last shot at the end is beautiful. Fun fact George Romero considered Day and Survival of the Dead his favorites in the series which is cool.
i agree it was better than diary. diary had that awful shakey camera crap going on. this film was pretty good. i view it as a small independant aside thats not realy part of the first 4 films. i think if you approach it as a relation rather than expecting a big sequel you will like it more.
Romero is hands down the godfather of the undead genre'. Even with this ridiculously just god awful film, SotD, one thing present in all Romero films is the ever present sense of dread, more about how it would be like to live in a world where the dead have begun to rise and feed off the remaining humans. Prolly has more to do with Romero's brilliance with cinematography and not just concentrating on what can be seen (from the eyes of the viewer) but what cannot be seen. More specifically, that sense of impending doom and hopelessness of knowing that untold horror lurks in the dark. A world where you can NEVER be safe. With all that being said, I cannot help but feel that somehow, the Romero films of late," Diary of the Dead" and now," Survival of the Dead" are nothing more than filler in between "zombie gags" (IE...the most interesting ways to dispatch the walking blight). It is the filler that holds the Romero magic (sense of dread) that is still fantastic, it is the dead themselves and more so about how they are dispatched that sucks... Hands down, Dawn of the Dead (1978) will always be my favorite. I remember as a 9 year old kid, my mom and dad took me to the movies to see (if I remember correctly) Herbie Goes Bananas. I knew DotD was playing in an adjacent theater. I went to the restroom and snuck into the theater. I stood in the back during the Mall scene where Peter and Roger and Flyboy were trying to lock the glass doors of the JC Penneys, to get away from the dead. I was so terrified, I could not move. I started to cry. A nice lady in the theater comforted me and took me to the managers office, who got my parents....That was it, I was a Z genre' fan for life. Now as an adult, the best parts of Dawn (for me) was the chaos in the TV studio, the SWAT guys raiding the housing projects, the dead in the basement, the dead breaking through the door that the National Guard guys were trying to break through. My favorite part was just a brief snippet of the film, where the helicopter with Roger / Peter / Fran and Stephen took off from the police dock and flew out of downtown Philadelphia. As the helicopter flew away, you could see the office lights turning off inside a skyscraper. Absolutely a fiend for the news feeds going on in the background, the talk show where people are arguing, the scientist in the initial TV studio where he was being mocked for claiming these were dead people and that they were eating people I am a huge fan of the WWZ Novel, hate the film intensely but the book was brilliant. I will always be a fan of the slow uncoordinated shambling zombie of the Romero Universe. Hate the WWZ movie zombies. Even though the Walking Dead zombies are slow, I don't like them because they act to aggressive. The Romero zombie is just as slow, but the Romero zombie shows no aggression, just mindless slow motion instinct to feed. The Walking Dead Walkers show aggression as they swarm attack whereas the Romero zombie is expressionless ad emotionless and thus more horrifying
I agree Romero is the god father of the zombies. But I will also say i honestly dont find super slow moving zombies a threat. There just to slow an unless there in a large group are just to easy to kill an trick.I will say this I prefer zombies moving slow because its more realistic. If there dead they should move slow. But I dont find them a threat unless there in hordes or in cool makeup that makes them seem scarier like in Tom Savinis Night remake.I dont find any of Romeros zombies a threat in any of his dead films but I did find them creepier then fast moving ones an scarier. This is all just my opinion though as for the films I think Night was his best. Both Dawn an Night are amazing but I find Dawn more dated. Day of the Dead I think is a good film but not great.t seen Land in a long enough time to remember what I thought about it but I remember liking it.Diary I thought was passable it has a good message an good effects.Survival I thought sucked I hope Georges script he was writing before he passed Road of the Dead sounded like a fun exploitation film an I hope it gets made.
I love this movie it's very good with a little comedy. Don't understand why it got a lot of hate but whatever it's from the godfather of zombiedom so you have to at least like and respect it a little
A zombie gamer here. LOL! Why do the zombies seem so slow? From the trailer it looks like the people are never in danger. Like they could just walk away from a zombie or kill them calmly on their own time lol! The story line does look interesting though! It does make me want to watch it!
One of the all time worst sequel’s ever made! Right off the bat we are hit in the face with some of the worst CGI effects since Jaws 3-D!!!! It’s so dumb that the writer of newest Netflix remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Disaster look like a masterpiece! I was nodding off it was so dumb and unbelievable!! Oh well even Dario Argentino DRACULA 3D comes to mind. The whole selling point of this movie is the Special Effects and it looks like a Saturday mourning cartoon!!!! I hated this movie and it’s on my personal Top 10 All Time Worst movies!!!

can someone give me more bullets in this gun
All Romeros Zombie films are set in the same universe
Cracking review mate, I prefer rhis over Land & Diary, a solid return to form by Romero.
According to my view Sarge Crockett survived and then he headed to fiddlers Green City in Pittsburgh coz he was seen in Land of the dead working as a soldier guarding the outpost
Then turned into a stench and killed by riley denbo
It really can't begin to compare to Romero's earlier work, but for what it is it's alright.
Romero himself said it's his 2nd favorite of his zombie films.
Great review. And I totally agree with your take on it. It wasn't a bad movie. And the best from the newest 3.
its really good
It’s nowhere near Land of the Dead!
what's the song from the trailer

Great review. I still have yet to see this, but I think I'll like it based on this.
Great review.

Hey I know that voice! You went onto do TWDexplained channel eh
Nope, I've seen approximately 3 episodes of twd
Epically Awesome Review.... as Always :)
I'm the same.
This is awful enough on its own. But when you know that this was Romero' s last film. It's also really sad and still awful.
"Survival" was an awful film by almost every standard. Even more depressing that it's by Romero.
Yay! Finally! Keep it up!

Lmao this movie is a joke to the franchise
Dawn of the Dead will always be the best. Diary of the Dead and Land of the Dead are the next best ones imho.
God damn cheese gahbage
A good idea totally wasted
the worst one of the franchise
