Unbelievable!! I Grew up listening to these pioneers and still they don't get the respect they deserve. Femmes KILL IT!!!!! I don't get it? It just doesn't add up!!??
the masses of people expect to be told what to like, see what they expect and don't like uncommon, odd and unconventional as much as they claim to be 'alternative', not enough people really learn to embrace their individuality like this band and you cannot fuck with the Violent Femmes, YOU CANNOT FUCK WITH THIS BAND! Fan since 88! Some of their albums aren't quite as good as their best work, but they NEVER made banal, watered down commercial pop! God loves 'em for it and I do too.
I loved them when I was a teenager too but when they came to my town, my Dad banned me from going to their gig. I was so upset but at least I got to see them when I was older. My Dad said of the Horns of Dilemma, "I could do better than that in a traffic jam on Barkers Road."
it's an odd and bold way of saying he relates... a clever sense of humor that one... Gordon always said stuff in a funny and revealing way that really makes one think it over more than he thought about writing it! A gifted poet and great joke teller! Always fun seeing them even when they're singing some of the darkest and saddest lyrics/songs. What a dynamic trio! Criminally under appreciated. Most people just know them (if they know them at all) as 'college music' and it's rare to find fans who have all their albums. They really can't be defined easily. Truly alternative to the bland mainstream. Bet Chuck liked them and if he heard it, this cover...
uh none of this matters if he COPIED chuck rather than cover him with respects, allude to him, or something like that. But if he's just playing him and saying "It's LIKE" Chuck Berry...that's fucked @okish
In the early 80's we were always at the gigs in Milwaukee as they were becoming more and more renouned. What a blast! Miss those days with Jane and Vic and Jules and Mike and Teri and Gordon and Barb and Charlie and Mary and Brian and Jaime and Chris and all,,,,,it was so new and so cool. 30 years? Damn.
this is awesome. its crazy how young they all are. p.s. even the first few mins of this doc are like ten times better than the other "american music" trailer.
not enough views or comments on this. Femmes forever!
Agreed!

I loved The Femms as a teen in the 80's/90's. I'm 51 now and still love em'! If it's too loud you're too old!
