i lived in Ft Davis when I was 5 yrs old my dad was a driller in the oil field all over west Texas. We visited Ft Davis a few times. Brings back a lot of Memories, I did not know it was a Black Soldier fort.

Yes, the Fort Davis which the town is named after were predominantly black soldiers including the officers which were called Buffalo Soldiers. The town of Fort Davis had a very high black population when the fort was active. Now, there has only been one black couple and one black child living in the whole town for years so far.

I love that part of Texas. Such a great place to visit and there's history all over the place. Can you imagine what it was like in the 1800s ? Nice video y'all. I heading to the kitchen now for dry bread and coffee. Hahaha

What it would have been like to be in places like this during the 1800s always crosses my mind while I'm camping out west. Before trails and roads. And A/C!

Thanks for the video guys. Brought back great memories. I think we'll try the trail between the fort and state park next time.
I'm planning a Fort Davis, Monahans, and Balmorhea trip for my family this summer. Neat part of Texas.

Hi Cameron! That will be a great trip for the family!! We were going to go to Monahans on our way home, but instead we decided to head towards Big Bend for the day. When you do the trail from the park to the fort, make sure you utilize sunscreen. It was like 70 degrees when we did it and we didn't realize we were getting burned. It's been three weeks and I'm still peeling skin off my arms. No tree cover. As always, thanks so much for watching!

Texas HIKEaholics Cool Thank you. I’m in San Antonio. What tips would you have for visiting? See any Javelina or mountain lions? Did you tent camp? Thank you.

@@TexasMan77 Sadly, we were only there for the day and we did not get to camp. We would definitely recommend the trail to the Fort. It was really quite nice and the Fort was pretty awesome as well. Especially if you like Texas history! We had wanted to stay at the historic lodge, but there was no availability. I would actually recommend trying to get a room there unless you just want to camp. Thanks so much for watching and we hope you have a fantastic time when get there!!
