    Why does no one appreciate him? Good mobility, decent arm strength, pretty good decision making, good pocket presence.... and people say he sucks?

  • @BroncosXNumberX1
    @BroncosXNumberX1 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I don't think a lot of people are saying he sucks. Right now with Barkley the biggest thing is his injury. It has to be a genuine concern going forward. If a team is deciding between two players at the same position and both look about the same on film, if one has a history of injury, they're automatically going to be less appealing than the one that hasn't had a history of injuries.

    People don't want him because he doesn't have the upside of some of the other QBs in the draft. However, he would be good to start right now in a WCO, unlike some of the others.

    Theres also a great graph of his completion percentage of passes beyond 20 yards, its pretty[good] ridiculous. He made quite a few 50+ yard's over his career and the ones he missed were 75% over thrown to 25% under thrown.

    He's very impressive in the pocket. Doesn't get raddled and can move around well.

    There was a lot of holding and not many calls. To this day, I still think last seasons usc team were the most talented team in the country.

    Which is why I say Barkley is better off going in a later round to a team with a top-rated veteran qb on the verge of retirement for the sake of developing like say, the Patriots? Could you imagine Barkley, with 8 years of starting qb experience, the most traditional qb in this draft, learning from Tom Brady? and when you look at the qb needy teams, especially Arizona, is it really in his best interest to go to one of them with the expectation of being a franchis savior in his rookie year?

    Just after watching the first half of this game, the Eagles QB depth chart should be Vick, Barkley, than Foles. Vick obviously gives us the best chance to win, and Barkley is much more efficient when throwing the ball down the field than Foles. Foles just throws slants, drags,and screens and lets his WRs do all of the work. With Foles in there, our speed at wide-out will be wasted. Even when Foles does complete deep balls, there usually under-thrown and the receiver has to out jump the defender

    That he put up pretty identical numbers, sans interceptions last year as 2011 is a testament to his ability. He had a very bad O-Line last year, Left tackle was pretty much non existant as was right guard, and our defense couldn't stop a 1 legged drunk! Philly is lucky to have him, he breaks down defenses and goes through progressions better than most. Philly's best QB in a long long time!

  • @princeee21
    @princeee21 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    This arm strength thing is overblown. Why was he a consensus top 10 pick last year, has a rough year with a crumbled USC team, and now suddenly he's an abominable QB? There's something to be said about a kid who could have come out and made millions after his team is slammed with sanctions that he had nothing to do with and his coach bolting because of it, and stayed to try and finish what he went there for. Great QBs also possess great character. Eagles got the steal of the draft. Congrats

  • @aj1434
    @aj1434 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    The reason USC QBs suck is not for a lack of talent, skill, mechanics, arm strength, decision making etc. look at the teams they go to. Palmer to the bengals and he was alright, Leinart to Oakland, Sanchez to the jets. These are all teams that didn't just need a QB, a QB was the first step in rebuilding a team. The reason they were all "busts" is because the teams they played on were piss poor teams with little to no foundation to offer these rookies. But that's just an opinion.

  • @r0binzero
    @r0binzero 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    As both a Jets and USC fan, this guy is exactly like Mark Sanchez. He's not very mobile, so I have no clue where you see that. He has an average arm. Deep throws aren't the only thing that are indicative of arm strength. A QBs ability to throw a strike on out routes and his ability to throw a strike into tight windows are huge parts of it to.
    Good decision making? Just look at the INT by Kiko Alanso. Barkley also threw two back-to-back HORRIBLE picks vs Stanford. Sanchez decision-making.....

  • @akuninjaguild
    @akuninjaguild 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yea he kind of does, Matt Barkley has more awareness in the pocket tho and even tho hes under pressure, he still makes decent throws. He will need some development but he seems solid to me. I think that's how the west coast offenses run tho. More quick passes here and there with the occasional shot down the field. I think for our squad we will need an athletic QB who can compliment MoJo and we will also need to address RB

  • @Stongio1
    @Stongio1 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    He needs to work on his checks down field, a lot of times he doesn't see wide open receivers and throws it into coverage, but other than that I would agree. When ESPN overrates a player, there's always a huge backlash of haters.

  • @denversportscentral1960
    @denversportscentral1960 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'll will say this about Barkley. Who cares if you have the strongest arm in the world if you can't deliver the football where it needs to be. Barkley has dead on accuracy with the short to intermediate throws and he loves the game which is the one characteristic you look at before think about drafting him.

  • @osaji922
    @osaji922 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Leinart went to the Cardinals ace. Nice try at trying to take a shot at Oakland and also Sanchez went far with the Jets the fist two seasons he was there. He's regressed since though and so has the talent on the team.Your last statement is just the nature of the beast. Top talent in the draft will ALWAYS go to really bad teams. That will never change.

  • @aj1434
    @aj1434 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    @Bob Sarge well that is a very good point. I will agree with you on Leinart. However, I feel like Barkley is the best of the recent USC QBs. If he is allowed to be, what I call "classically trained" in the nfl, manning he sits behind a QB and learns for a year or two he will do very well, or I think so at least.

  • @JGB1961
    @JGB1961 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    watching this video highlights how much grabbing is allowed in college football. The large majority of Barkley's bad throws in college were due to timing disruptions based on holding or contact down the field. Can't do that in the NFL. Think some NFL front offices like Barkley much more than common wisdom suggests - for those running a WC offense

    Matt Barkley looks every bit as physicly capable as Matt Ryan.

  • @hawaiiguykailua6928
    @hawaiiguykailua6928 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think it has put a chip on his shoulder, and thats the best part. Matt has ALWAYS been at the front, now that he has to fight I think it will be even better for him. His character is unquestioned, his football IQ as well, now we'll see a part we haven't seen, animosity to prove everyone wrong.

  • @evandziobak15
    @evandziobak15 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    He is not by any means great, i just think he is getting sort of a bad rep for all of the hype and the fact he's from USC... I like him better than a bunch of the other QB prospects this year... This year's qb class in general is not very good...

  • @aaroncox3002
    @aaroncox3002 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    That's what I've been saying. As a Cardinals fan, I'd love to get him this year, but for whatever reason everyone else hates the idea. I guess it's that long lineage of stellar quarterback play we've become accustomed to in the desert ;)

  • @CosmicDisclosure
    @CosmicDisclosure 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Barkley, is ugh :/ bc of all the hype I was hoping he'd b better. He's NOT a 1st rounder. I'd rather have no quarterback in the first round this year and suck then to have Matt Barkley and suck for the next three years

    An aweful lot of Oregon holding on Lee, Woods and Agholor. That was the only way they could beat USC, same with UCLA and Notre Dame. Hold the WR and hope the refs call the game against USC..... and they did.

  • @dejuaneberhardt9956
    @dejuaneberhardt9956 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I want him just for the play at 7:25. 3 defenders coming right at him and he still gets the ball out making 2 miss. Im a jag fan and if thats Gabbert its a curl up to another injury.

    I THINK MARCUS MARIOTA IS A BETTER QB THAN BARKLEY!! I'M A USC FAN BUT 4REAL WE REALLY NEED A QB THAT CAN " RUN THE BALL 2 PICK UP 1ST DOWNS"" IN MY OPNION BARKLEY SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @CPAClass2010
    @CPAClass2010 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Seeing how Klein from KSU did against Oregon, I'd give it to Barkley. Even tho Barkley has better receivers, he made much better throws than Klein even tho they were in his face all day.

  • @trulyinfemous
    @trulyinfemous 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    agalore and lee were very impressive, woods not so much.
    Barkley is a solid talent but not franchise QB material, he's like a better looking Andy Dalton.

    Just look atl every USC QB: Good looks, great in college and a BUST in the NFL. But i think he mite have a chance. he was a 4 year starter right?

  • @LordOfTheTombs

  • @RAZER8514
    @RAZER8514 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    I WISH USC HAD A "QB" THAT NOT ONLY THROWS THE BALL, BUT CAN RUN THE BALL AS WELL!!!! MORE LIKE JOHNNY MANZIEL OR CAM NEWTON TYPE!

  • @jordangpugh
    @jordangpugh 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Your right. They all went to terrible teams with poor ownership. Matt Leinhart is the exception, he just is not a leader of men. Anyways. They were expected to be saviors of the franchise. I think if Barkley is the best Q.B. in the draft. Geno Smith reminds me of Jason Campbell. Matt Barkley is every bit as capable as Matt Ryan. Given a good running game, and a security blanket at receiver, he will develop into a fine pro.

  • @nasholston5112
    @nasholston5112 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    If Barkley had the arm strength of Geno Smith he would be a guaranteed top 5 pick. He looks the most NFL ready to me.

  • @MalloryMovies
    @MalloryMovies 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    for anyone who thinks he has a noodle arm, look at the throw at 0:17. hit on the throw, puts the ball on the money deep with great touch at least 45-50 yards from the release of the throw to the catch. I met him at the Manning Passing Acedemy last summer, he has 'it' so to speak. The way he carries himself is impressive because he exudes confidence but not cockiness. he carries himself the way a pro should and any questions of his makeup due to his rough season are unnecessary.

  • @orpheus2200
    @orpheus2200 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Not really. Just a run in for a score by USC, a TD drive by Oregon, and then a long kickoff return by Marqise Lee.

    Barkley is not nearly as athletic as McNabb, not even close.
