  • Grave of Mubalige Shayear Syed Mohammad Ali Hussaini found in Chushot Gongma, Leh's Skiltso hamlet.
On October 10, 2022, a congregation was held in Chushot Gongma, Leh, attended by religious scholar . Historian Mohammad Sadiq Hardassi, Tahir Hussain Zubdavi, Director, Rural Development Department U.T. Ladakh and Anayat Ali Shotopa, as well as the writer Haji Fida Hussain, a former councillor, Ghulam Saiden and the villagers of Skiltso, Chushot Gongma. The researchers and academics were able to confirm the location of Mubalige Shayaeri Syed Mohammad Ali Hussaini's grave at (Sajadiya mosque) in Mohalla Skiltso in Chuchot Gongma after several years of investigation. The founder of the Himalayan Cultural Heritage Foundation, Dr. Sonam Wangchok, was also present on this occasion.
Speaking with the media, Tahir Hussain Zabdavi, who was in charge of the research team searching for Syed Mohammad Ali Hussaini's grave for the past two years, said that Hussaini was a religious figure from Kharmang Baltistan who came to Ladakh to spread Islam but whose name and exact address are still unknown. He was buried at Chuchot Gongma.
The investigation was initiated after historian Mohammad Sadiq Hardassi was approached by the great-grandson of Syed Syed Mujtaba Hussaini, who now resides in Iran, and was informed that the burial was located in Chuchot and afterwards searched by the team. Tahir Zubdavi noted that although the team discovered numerous unidentified graves, they ultimately came to the conclusion that Syed Mohammad Ali Hussaini's cemetery is located next to Masjid e Sajjadiya (formerly known as Tochey Masjid).
Sheikh Abideen, a local himself, stated that he had learned from an elderly man named Ata Mohammad that a Syed named Syed Mohammad, while he didn't know his entire name, rests in the tomb next to Sajadiya Masjid after travelling to Chuchot Ladakh to spread religion.
Talking to the media, Dr. Sonam Wangchok revealed that he had documented the mosque and the grave between 2004 and 2007 for publication by Namgyal Institute of Research for Ladakhi Art and Culture (NIRLAC).
He claimed that he sensed the old mosque and burial to be a sacred and important location and that this led him to begin looking for further details. Locals informed him that the burial at the mosque is said to be that of a Sayid who arrived in Chushot from Baltistan when he began to ask questions about the mosque. "The masjid was venerated by the local Muslims and Buddhists, and it was a symbol of Ladakh's unity and religious harmony," the locals informed me.
“There is a small grave below the porch which is said to be the grave of a Sayid who came to Chushot Gongma to preach,” according to Dr. Wangchok’s documentation (Legacy of Mountain People, Inventory of Cultural Resources in Ladakh, Volume 2, 2008).
Scholars and researchers also published their discoveries regarding the location, along with the historian f others. The people shared several tales and unique experiences regarding the mosque and the burial.
It is important to note that Chuchot Gongma is home to numerous unmarked graves and that some additional graves were also identified throughout the research.

Dr Sonam Angchok, please correct the year in Ladakhi. Because you says you reached there in 1204 A.D. which is not possible. Plese say 2004-05. In English you says 2004 but in Ladakhi you says 1204. If I m not wrong.
