Today I chat with Bianca in Spanish, Portuguese, and English! My main goal of today's video was to see how much Brazilian Portuguese I could understand as a Spanish speaker. I've never formally studied Portuguese, and as you can see, I can still understand most of what Bianca says to me! I'm sure if I traveled to Brazil or Portugal I would find it more difficult due to the speed of the spoken language. However it's so cool that I can have a full on conversation with a native Portuguese speaker, just because I know Spanish! If you enjoyed this video, please like and subscribe! Namorado(a) (PT) = Novio(a) (ES)
* Noivo(a) (PT) = Novio(a) (ES)

Apaixonado(a) (PT) = Enamorado(a) (ES)
Note: Portuguese divides
Namoro -> Noivado -> Casamento
Spanish divides
Citas -> Compromiso -> Matrimonio
I love the similarity between Portuguese and Spanish it's much more easy to learn it.
Here in Peru we also say "mi enamorado/a" when we refer to our boyfriend or girlfriend but also when we mean to be in love
But she said "meu namorado" (my boyfriend) not "enamorado"(in Spanish "enamorado" means "in love"... We don't have the word "enamorado" in Portuguese: in Portuguese"in love" we say "apaixonado/a" (for male/for female).
You should try speaking with someone who speaks Portuguese from Portugal and see if its any more difficult for you to understand

I mean, it's difficult for me, as a brazilian, to understand them, since one of the major differences is the way we pronouce vowels. Portuguese people tend to barely pronounce them, while we tend to exagerate their sounds, even distort them...

I think it’s pretty amazing how I’m Mexican and I never studied a lick of Portuguese but I can watch Brazilian movies and listen to Brazilian music and enjoy it just as much as anything else with ease, for example my all time favorite movies is Cidade de Deus! 🇲🇽 x 🇧🇷

At least in Peru they use the word enamorada/enamorado for girlfriend/boyfriend and novia/novio is more like fiance or compremetida/compremetido. So, I understood that no problems. But I have noticed that there are a lot of words that are used in Mexico that I never used in Peru that mean the same thing.

Listo > Pronto > Soon 😂😂😂. Esa confusión fue épica. En portugués "pronto" se traduce como "preparado/listo/ready", pero en español "pronto" se traduce "cedo/soon". "Listo" (smart) en español puede traducirse como "inteligente" en portugués

People from Lisbon ... they speak, different. I went there, I didn't expect to have difficulty understanding as a Native Spanish speaker. When I went to Brazil it wasn't that bad and could actually converse with them, but what the actual fuck Portugal. No hate, just kinda cool they have a different accent that is unintelligible by me lol

En Republica Dominicana usamos también enamorado/a como novio/a. Pero suena un poco mas anticuado. Mi abuela y mi mamá por ejemplo, usarian esa palabra mas que yo.
Pero en Brasil usamos namorado para novio y namorada para novia. Noiva um poco similar, usamos cuando se va a casar una chica. Entoces, ella está noiva.

I was on a call with girls who speak in Portuguese, they are from Brazil and when they were speaking in Portuguese I could understand most of what they said, I decided to learn Portuguese on my own (like i taught myself Spanish) it was pretty easy and about 2 weeks after i started learning i had a dream of me speaking Portuguese to my mom

@@marsliyam i self taught myself spanish and can understand Portuguese conversation a bit but not a lot, Portuguese and Spanish are very similar so if you know Spanish then learning Portuguese will be easier since the both are close.
I ended up going the Portuguese route after many years with Spanish, met my wife (Brazilian), spent a lot of time in Brazil and now am trying to get my Spanish back up to a C2-ish level. It can be a struggle keeping the 'portunhol' at bay.
The Portuguese tenses seem to be more streamlined when compared to Spanish. There are a few tricky points when the tenses don't align well, for example the Present Perfect in Portuguese doesn't not translate well into the Present Perfect as we know them in Spanish and English. Also, Portuguese utilizes the future subjunctive often as well as personal infinitives which can be daunting at first. Vocabulary too can seem very straightforward, however with occasional pitfalls.
Anyone interested should look up Pois não by SIMÕES, it's an autodidactic course (with CD audio) that is VERY comprehensive of Portuguese, designed for English speakers of Spanish.
@Krzysztof Prusakowski I would say it's important to stick with what excites you, and use that as the way to grow through the languages. Also, classes, grammar, etc. are good, but the best thing you can do bar none is just have contact with natives. Exchanges, travel (if possible), and contact in general with the living language will do more than "studies/classes" themselves and it will open more doors for you.
For me, travel was always something I wanted to do, but I couldn't afford to without work. So work has been the means to be able to travel and grow in these languages. This is ultimately what led to my ties to Brazil.

Even though Pois Não is a good book, it makes no sense, why it is in English for Spanish speakers to learn Brazilian Portuguese. English is the extra step in between, which is unnecessary. If it is for Spanish speakers, then the book should be in Spanish to learn Brazilian Portuguese with no English at all.
@@alanguages Agreed, I believe it's better suited for native English speakers with B2+ fluency in Spanish, or a linguist curious in some of the intricacies between SP/PT.
Namorada is novia in Portuguese. In the south of Brazil they use enamorada as being in love but it’s not very common
Noiva would make more sense for a Spanish speaker to understand, as novia.

To me, the most difficult aspect of making the switch from Spanish to Portuguese is getting a good grasp of the nasal sounds. Besides a few new verb forms you'd have to learn like the future subjunctive and personal infinitive (which are pretty simple to learn), everything else is really similar to Spanish. Furthermore, in spoken Brazilian Portuguese you really only need to learn three simple tenses to get by: the present, imperfect, and preterite. The future tense is barely used in colloquial speech and the conditional is often replaced by the imperfect. The perfect and pluperfect tenses are formed in a similar way as in Spanish, and then there are only really three subjunctive tenses that you need to get by in the spoken language: present, imperfect and future (which doesn't exist in Spanish). If you're considering learning Portuguese after having learned Spanish, I'd say go for it--it can absolutely change your life!

@@Maxippouce that can definitely be a problem if you're not already pretty advanced in Spanish. Some mixing in the beginning is inevitable, but the more you use both the easier it gets to keep them separate.

we also use enamorado/a in Spanish, but usually meaning a lover or someone that likes you but hasn't come out to you yet. Novio is the person you are dating or your fiancé.

As a complete outsider, spanish sounds so familiar coz i live in the Philippines and we use a lot of spanish words but portuguese sounds like spanish mixed with russian. at least to my ears.

español y portugues son idiomas parecidos o casi igual igual con el italiano pero difieren en ciertas construcciones y la fonologia afecta mucho en ese aspecto el español es mas limitado.
