Great Yarmouth Hippodrome Circus raising pool base/Peter Jay the circus owners explanation at end.

After water spectacular we stayed to watch the floor being raised.At The end we Chatted to Peter Jay about how the floor raised and what has gone wrong in the past with the pool near floods etc

I never stayed that long to see the floor go up but I go there every year, seeing as its only a two hour drive from where I live.

Great workout, but you think in this day and age they would invest in 4 electric winches 😑

It’s an amazing piece of engineering and it still works .I’m sure they could use electronic winches .Though an extra expense and something else to go wrong .It’s also good exercise with the manual winch .A spectacle to watch ,history still in action 😀😎

I think they continue to use manual winches due to the sheer fact of how old the circus is. They try to maintain as much of that history as possible with the establishment… And besides; It’s good arm work!
