Bannerlord Tactics: Weak Army Tactics, Volume VIII: Can you Defend a Castle with Weak Troops??

- It's Epic Siege Saturday, and also a continuation of our series where we challenge elite troops with our tier 4 and lower army. Here we engage in a castle defense against almost 3,000 elite troops!
Welcome back future Khans, Emperors, Jarls and Sultans of Calradia! We're continuing to show our late-game campaign including huge battles, and winning(most) of these battles by deploying advanced tactics to overcome superior enemy forces. Our entire channel is dedicated to helping players improve their field command and if that's your desire, or just want to see huge, dramatic battles, you've come to the right place.
This is Volume VIII in the series and we continue this series, challenging strong armies with our mediocre force, comprised of tier four and below units and plenty of militia, eager to hold back this monster force...
This series, a side-branch of my late-game campaign, demonstrates how an army of mediocre and weak troops can take on, clash against and even WIN battles against the most powerful armies in Bannerlord, using tactics. This series is designed to help players further their field command to the point where they will fluidly move troops depending on situations, and win battles like a Legend.
Please comment, like and subscribe if you're interested in more of my ultra-late-game campaign, that may end up ending in utter despair, but that's the challenge of it. Any challenge where success is assured is no challenge at all.
My campaign is an extremely late-game campaign where I am resolved to give no peace to these scum Kingdoms attacking me - seven of the eight have been at war for years, with only Sturgia at a neutral stance. My family of warriors is now large though and with what remaining strength and valor we can must, we stand against the map of Calradia.

Lord Retinue Uptier(Makes the enemy forces stronger, much less peasants and lower ranked troops)

Improved AI Troops(Also makes enemy lords and their armies tougher by giving them a higher daily xp rate. This means you'll routinely face armies with HUGE numbers of the highest tier units, sometimes four or five times the normal amount in vanilla Bannerlord): www.nexusmods....
Death for all: This mod allows you to set the rate at which nobles die more often. I want both a harder challenging late-game but also a more realistic game. If you're cut down with a massive aserai two-handed axe, you shouldn't just be injured 99.9% of the time. It's a very customizable mod so you can just a little more death or set the death rate so high you get several deaths every battle. The number I often like is '10', some deaths but not a massacre of nobles...

I also use the Dismemberment Plus Mod: It's highly customizable and works seamlessly with the new beta(and versions back to 1.28). I thoroughly recommend it if you enjoy carnage!:

I've also used Realistic Battle Mod in the past and highly recommend it for Ai and battle realism BUT I find the pace too slow for my taste and the AI is actually rather predictable after a half dozen battles. Still I wanted to put a plug in for it here, it's a GREAT mod and highly configurable. www.nexusmods....
Much of the music and inspiration for this and other videos in the channel are inspired by Epic History TV - probably THE best channel on youtube(and the internet for that matter) covering the Napoleonic wars. With amazing work Epic History TV takes you through the dramatic and incredibly story of Napoleon covering all of his most famous battles. I HIGHLY recommend it.

@@EricGasz69420 My current character is also a smith. I created a high level two handed mace with 100 swing speed… sieges are now my favorite thing 😂😂
@@HeadlessHorsemanProductions yeah I got some of the legendary/masterwork weapons and they’re pretty good. Just figured the family needs a smith for immersion!
I enjoyed watching the gang style beat downs of the high and mighty knights and lords. 🤌

We might need a hammer campaign whenever you do start a new one. Axes are definitely "better" but 2h hammers aren't bad at least they cleave like axes.
I think there's something to be said for the knocking guys around, with a blazing fast hammer, something like one in eight guys gets trucked to the ground, it's almost like a death, for a low-level weapon, it's highly useful! We'll see how much I incorporate it into future episodes. This was an abnormal 'epic siege', I'm sure I'll go back to my axe for larger battles...

The joy with which you smash the living bejesus out of these scrubs is just simply awesome. I'm starting to implement more of these tactics in my own campaign. What do you think would be the biggest potential troop disparity you can deal with on an open battlefield using your tactics? Have you ever read Legend by David Gemmell? I'd love to see you try to recreate the siege of Dros Delnoch. I guess the Khuzaits would be a good sub for the Nadir. :)
I had to look up that graphic novel, too many great books, not enough time. What's the main crux of the siege, just a huge force of archer heavy/horse archer types? Lemme see what I can find.
Open field battles are MUCH harder than siege, bridge defenses notwithstanding. In the open, anything exceeding a 4-1 kill ratio is very hard to pull off unless you are fighting weak(ish) troops. I do have a few 5-1 battles coming up in the future, we'll have to see if I can win. :)
@@HeadlessHorsemanProductions I'd highly recommend David Gemmell if you like heroic fantasy, his writing is never dull. The battle of Dros Delnoch is a protracted siege with overwhelming odds and a race against time to hold out for Abalayns reinforcements. If the fortress falls, the Drenai will be overrun. it's an awesome story. 10,000 Drenai, mostly farmers and recruits against a horde of 500,000 battle hardened Nadir led by Ulric of the Wolfshead tribe. (Think Genghis Khan)
This was sick, I haven't someone invite the army into before most put all the effect in keeping them out. The killing field inside was so bad the AI got scared and stopped sending soldiers in.
Exactly, I'm tinkering around constantly with different ways to destroy the enemy - this series should highlight some of those unorthodox ways...

@@HeadlessHorsemanProductions I think tier 1 battanian footmen has the most similar weapon to this hammer!
Once I was able to feed 5th looters to a Battanian volunteer. Rode around them on horseback and eventually lined them up. And the Battanian with a hammer one-shotted 5 in a row. It was a very fun first battle in the company
Also I know archer have infinite ammo in siege defense, but what about crossbowmen? Did they have infinite ammo too? And I assume your troopes will run out of javelins
Yes, as far as I have seen, unlimited for bow AND xbow, javelin guys are out of luck(and throwing axes/knives too)
every time im preparing for a castle seige defense i cant prepare my troops before hand (pretty sure its only cuz im a merc rn)
I don't know the answer to this for sure, but SOMETIMES, for me too, I cannot assign captains, etc. before a castle siege... Might be a certain patch or bug too...
Pretty sure if you don’t own the castle you don’t get the set up phase. So it’s probably cause you’re a mercenary.

Pretty lethal! They don't hold out quite as well but to get better enfilade fire, it's savage!
@@HeadlessHorsemanProductions I still find the 2 squares with a gap in the middle to be the most efficient defence. But the dragging square looks really fun 😂
