why do the players of that long upright thing always look miserable in every Indian musical performance. I wonder if it makes them depressed!

No...they are generally disciples of main artists and observing and learning(u can say on the job learning) that's why they look like this...

    • @chandraravikumar

That is the Thambuura / Thanpuura / Thanpuuri/ they are playing. It is a drone instrument. There are 4 strings, but no frets. The song / singing / other musical instruments ride ln the sub-stratum of soniccwaves that is the hummm of the Thanbuura. The Thamboora player must keep true firm and true to the pitch and rhythm duration during the singing of the full piece which often goes on for over an hour. As this background drone is so critical to the whole music and performance that the player cannot allow himself to be distracted for a second , even by the performance itself however sublime it may be. So the Thambuura player is actually has to have a single -point concentration for long periods of time. So, that is not a long face. That is the face of a person concentrating intensely.

I don't know who you are, but this is outrageous comment.
Do you understand Indian classical music ?
Pandit ji is a living legend - there are very very few musicians of his calibre in India of this level, and more over, pandit ji is down to earth, humble and apaara gnyaani.
Before you wrote the above comment - you should have done some introspection of yourself... Without such - your oneline comment has exposed your lack of classical music knowledge, respect, humility and maturity.

Whether it's boring or pleasing here depends on ur state of mind....if u r disappointed and feel this boring, just avoid listening rather than putting it in a disrespectful manner for a legend of high calibre.

Only juveniles and ignorants like you can write such nonsense. Can you elaborate where in the rendition pandit ji disappointed and how? Did he bypass "laya" anytime?
