    This video is a joke. Where is the RAV4, Sportage, Tucson, and Forester. Instead of mixing up the trim levels (some fully loaded and some more base. They need to either have all of the most popular trims and options or all fully loaded.

    The jeep compass shouldn't be compared in this class. It's too small. The Jeep Cherokee should have been used. The Jeep Compass should be compared to the Chevy Trax or the Nissan Rogue sport.

      I would call the new gen Jeep Compass a "tweener" It's in between the Renegade (subcompact) and close enough to the Cherokee (Compact).

      Hi there. Over the past year much has changed within the market as several models have been redesigned or updated. So, we pit our 2016 winner - the Ford Escape - against five updated models plus the best-selling SUV in the U.S., the Nissan Rogue.

      Just because a model hasn’t been updated in the last year, doesn’t mean it’s no longer competitive.

      A very calculated answer, but it doesn't seem like an honest answer. It's ridiculous that make a video about the "best compact SUV" without having the RAV4 and Forrester in the mix, considering those two have always been considered two of the most reliable SUVs in their class for years. But you're going to include Jeep and Chevy?

  • @tjs114
    @tjs114 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I will mention that the Nissan Rogue's passenger seat with recline completely flat unlike the Compass seat which partially folds forward. I'm surprised "auto journalists" wouldn't have noticed that fact since dozens of other Rogue reviews feature it.

    I rented an 18 Tiguan for a 1500 mile trip. The seats were worse than sitting on a metal chair. Worst seats by far than I have ever sat in. My back and butt were hurting after just 50 miles. The rest of it was great and it had decent power, but none of that matters if you are in pain the whole time.

    when you start looking at the vehicles. You really need to ask what your needs are and will this vehicle do the purpose you intend. I just got the 2018 Equinox LS and it has good standard features. It has what I need. Yes it would be nice to have other bells and whistles. But I have gone this long without them. So what it comes with standard ie: remote keyless entry, heated seats and push button start. Works for me. And the Apple/Android auto. And of course the back up camera. I'm good. I really haven't had any issues with any blind spots either. I find the 1.5 L turbo is just fine.

  • @pbentsonable

    This is not a fair test for the Compass. It is in it's own class. Its between subcompact and compact. So to hold it to compact only standards is not fair. Its only real competition is the Rouge Sport.

    I drive company cars, normally I run the milage out in 3 years, I have no horse in this race, so believe me when I say, The Escape I just had was a nice driving vehicle and quiet to drive. Just a great car. but for me it was narrow and felt small inside. i would have no trouble buying a Ford Escape after driving one for 3 years. I now have the 2018 Equinox. So far i like it. Decent ride, slightly less quiet than the Ford, Far better room inside. Easy to park and has a serious amount of new gadgets and Google play is very good. Buy the way, Escapes disconnected phone constantly. Now my phone stays connected. I use my phone in the car a lot. Hp is not there with the small 1.5 engine in the equinox, but Im not concerned, it has enough for me. Overall it would be a tough choice. Equinox might win out over the Escape for more room inside. Escape would be a great car for your wife.

      Thanks for your comment. The clarify the statement made: we mean to qualify it as the “real” or “CC” or “GTI” or “old Tiguan” or some such - meaning of the 200-hp or more 2.0-liter you expect in a VW you expect in a VW, not the detuned version that debuted in the Tiguan for less power but better EPA ratings.

    • @UliDaNihilist
      @UliDaNihilist 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cars.com That makes a lot more sense, thank you.

    • @fmeier22
      @fmeier22 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Raymond and some others are right to call me out on my clumsy reference to the turbo. I meant to say a "real" VW 2.0-liter turbo, the more engaging versions of that engine that we've enjoyed in other models, not the new version in the Tiguan with a revised combustion cycle that lowers power to improve mileage (albeit with a little more low-end torque).

  • @Doozercal
    @Doozercal 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    They chose the Tiguan as #1 but hardly showed any details other than a weak engine and adequate storage. They went more in detail on other models. Also where are the Hyundai/Kia models and the Rav4? This is hardly a "best" compact suv comparison. Shoddy journalism, strive for better please.

  • @automandan

    Okay I'm just curious why did they put the Jeep Compass in the same competition with those guys it's not a compact it's a subcompact if anything I would have put the Jeep Cherokee in yes a little bit bigger but it actually competes with vehicles like the CX-5 the Rogue escape it competes of vehicles like that so I think that was a fail on cars.com is part and the funny thing is I tested a Jeep Compass and I didn't see any of those things coming loose. So I don't understand where they're coming up with that crap that might have been pre-production model but also then again it's a cheaper vehicle so the quality of the materials is not going to be nearly as good and if they hated the compass then they would have absolutely abhorred the Chevy Trax which was even lower quality in my personal opinion

    as the owner of a 17 escape I find the features it has for the money i paid i am happy with it. As far as performance in the crappy weather with snow tires and awd it performs magnificently-zero complaints, room-no issues, comfortable on long and short drives, media center-awesome with nav that is so easy to operate its almost unreal, rough roads-fantastic and performance lets just say I have zero issues getting up to highway speed in a hurray I love my escape cant complain about fuel economy either. As far as advance collision warning, just one more feature that gives people a sense of not needing to not to pay attention while driving however a nice feature

    I would buy the Kia Sportage SX, because its AWD system is second only to Subaru's, and it's better equipped (e.g. ventilated seats) than the dated Forester. Even with a very compact exterior, the Sportage SX has huge legrooms and the rear seats can recline significantly! Also, it has giant sunroof, suprisingly good sound insulation, and great HarmanKardon stereo.
    I was really planning on buying the new Equinox, but after a test drive, the Sportage is so much better in handling and feels faster. Although the Equinox has the best exterior & interior styling in its class. If you want to save fuel for the long term, I would recommend the Equinox diesel, it's extremely fuel efficient.

    @Cars.com - you guys claim to be professional reviewers. So how come you left out the offerings from Toyota, Kia, Subaru, Hyundai etc? These brands make up over 50% of the segment and you didn't see it fit to include them? Also, a more granular scoring system would have helped - such as price vs. trim level, warranty, gas milage etc.
    Lastly, saying Tiguan was "pleasant to drive" but the engine "felt a little weak" is very subjective and, frankly, useless to me.
    Please update and try harder! Thanks.

    These comparos lose credibility when just because a worthy segment stalwart isnt all new, it is omitted from the test. The Forester and Rav4 should not be left out for this. They are top selling CUVs and are on most peoples shopping list in this segment. Maybe Cars.com was worried they'd place well and make the newer redesigns less relevant. Yet, the Rogue isnt all that updated but was included. And nobody here expected the Compass to win this. Leave it at the dealer and put a Forester in its place to shake things up. Use real world considerations like reliability, fuel economy and resale instead of nitpicky crap. The Mazda lost points for its engine/transmission? First time Ive ever heard that as a primary complaint of it. For my money Illl take a CX5 Grand Touring.

    I don't buy this about Ford Escape. I test drove the Escape twice and there are people who I know who drove this too but the ride is very choppy and bad quality.

    Why is it usually just a bunch of men making decisions as to which car is better?
    Where are the moms, the families?
    They should be the ones making the ultimate decision.

    You guys were worried about reliability in the Jeep and you put the VW number one? The VW should be bringing up the rear with the Jeep on that score.

    The 2018 Equinox has a complete fold flat passenger seat, even better than the Compass which was highlighted as a key feature. The trims of the models compared didn't seem comparable. Some base models, with a fully loaded Rogue? I also agree that the RAV4, Forester, Tucson, and Sportage should have been included or at least acknowledged for not making the cut? Seems hard to believe though.

    I was surprised by the Tiguan but very test goes like this.Editors' choice CX-5 is the best driving one but hardly anyone will buy it. Crowd favorite CR-V wins as it's the best all round package, Escape behind a close second followed by Equinox, both being praised for their 2.0Turbo engines... Rest are also-rans and Jeep Compass comes dead last.

    Those were the 2 complaints I had with my Compass, the cheap stalks and area around the start-stop. Consumers will alway have their hands on those areas, wtf make them cheap?

    Did Ford fix the craPboost engines? Never to match their advertised fuel economy and intakes and pipes crack and car going into limp mode in rain.
