    What a masterpiece by Carlsen. I was looking forward to your analysis, Danny, and as usual, you haven't disappointed.

    As you say Daniel, everyone has a bad day. We are used to wonderful days from Carlsen, this was one of the best. An exchange sacrifice in true Petrosian style and a zugzwang which compares well with Nimzowitch v Samisch. A good day at the office too for GM king with his usual, Lucius, enthusiastic and level headed analysis. Thanks Daniel and keep up the good work.

    This one will go down in the books as the Modern Immortal Zugzwang. Possibly the best Magnus game ever.

      Nah, he has played far better games. Games where nobody seems to find out where the opponent went wrong, here Fedo blundered. It is easy to forget past games and be impressed by those You saw recently. But, of course a classy game.

    I think Nepo said it best on Twitter when he made a comment along the lines of "chess is much more difficult to play on a 4x4 board as opposed to an 8x8 board".
    It still amazes me that people think Carlsen is all about long drawn-out end games. This was a game of superb positional attacking quality. It was almost sadistic how he tortured his opponent with about 20 near zugzwangs. Incredible performance and some of the lines you were making exemplified the beauty of this game.

    I certainly would not want to face Carlsen in a consolation match after he just lost a match . . .

    Daniel should have 1M subs before Levy, Hikaru, and Agad. Nothing against those guys either, ofc I like them, too. But Daniel, imo, is *the best* chess commentator.
    Daniel oozes English charm and character. He's passionate, expressive, conveys the drama of the game he's covering, he's so beautifully descriptive in a way that makes both the 1200 and the 2000 player satisfied, professional, consistent, GM-knowledge that translates perfectly to all levels he's explaining to.
    He's just the best. Thank you, Daniel.

    @Mr. King As always a superb analysis of a beautiful played game. Interesting is the fact that Magnus in the classical time control won 8 games and drew 6, whereas Duda won 5 games and drew 9. So you are so right about one bad day at the office is all it takes to lose a tournament.

  • @BigAsciiHappyStar

    I agree that comments about Carlsen’s “terrible play in one game” are totally unwarranted. Anybody who expects to see 50 consecutive games without the occasional bad loss does not understand the basic laws of mathematics and probability.
    At the highest levels of play, winning chess is all about putting opponents under constant pressure and forcing them to play at less than their true strength.

  • @chazzabh

    What a disastrous result for Carlsen! The only Top Ten player to have a serious rating jump. Ruination. Tsk. This and his following game v Fedoseev were two zugzwang masterpieces for the ages.

  • @gdudas
    @gdudas 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    I believe Carlsen couldn't play his AAA game against Duda and others. Needs to keep saving some prep for Nepo. Defending the title is more important. I could be wrong, though.

    • @hamzaprince5754
      @hamzaprince5754 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah of course duda is known to be less prepared than elite GMs magnus could have surprised him in some deep prep but he instead choose to play a normal game where duda is a very good calculator and hard to outplay when he s in form

  • @afifkhaja

    Carlsen is playing like alpha zero, giving up material to constrict the opponent. The exchange sacrifice on f4 was brilliant because after bh6, the white queen is forced to trap itself on the kingside. I did not like a4 from Fedoseev. Instead, he should have castled queenside then accelerated his kingside attack. Great commentary
