Ex MOD site at Wilton Park. Was married quarters, language school and housing closed in 2014. Only showing a small part of the site though. Looks out of the way but it's in between the A40 and a gold course.
Interesting building, I quite like these big mushroom columns on the ground floor. The architect clearly had a theme with 45 degree angles. Also it looks like a it’s built in a rural / forrest environment which makes it that more special as compared to urban tower block. There’s just something to it, a solitary tower in a forrest.
I thought that, bit of a strange one! Tower block in a rural setting! You'd have thought being so close to Central London accommodation in such a beautiful setting would be quite sought after, apparently not!
You made me jump out of my seat at 11:24! Everything was so peaceful until that moment… Seriously though, fantastic editing on this. Your videos have always been great, but they’ve also come a long way.
Wow, what a video! I've always found something eerie yet beautiful about these sorts of brutalist structures. I especially enjoyed the drone footage, this was incredibly well made.

This sort of reminds me of Bracknell’s Point Royal a bit. It’s strange to see a singular tower block just plonked there with nothing else tall around it.
If it was indeed MoD, as one comment suggests, that might explain the somewhat remote location as well as the institutional looks of the other nearby building.
What is the building next to the tower? Is it linked to the tower underground by the stairs shown at 6:50 in the video? I assume that this is not standard local authority social housing.

It could have gotten too expensive to maintain And due to how much it would cost, i think there is a higher chance of it being torn down than renovated
What a great video I have a relative who used to live in that block I have memories of using those lifts back in the day when they were in action if my memory serves me right they were Otis lifts I think updated in the later years by Kone lifts but I maybe wrong. Keep up the great work with your videos well done for filming this before another piece of social history is blasted off the face of the earth!.
Yes, they were Otis! Really interesting comment you've written here, as I didn't expect to have anyone reply that used to know this building. The lifts were modernised in the very early 90s, but would have loved to see how those Otis lifts looked back then. In part 2 you'll see the lobby, it looks VERY dated, dark and gloomy - but I love it! If you can think of anything that I might be able to add for Part 2, then I'd thankfully welcome it. Thanks very much for the comment Tim, and yes, it's due for demolition very soon now.
Normally they hire contractors to dismantle the lift equipment before the building gets totally demolished,,, quite a bit of salvage in those ,,,,,can’t wait for the second film 👍a successful new year everyone 🤘
Cool, thanks Joris. Maybe I could ask you to check out my 'part 2' video? I'm trying to fill it with loads of detail. Perhaps I can catch up with you via email?
G, post office tower. Once the tallest building in the UK! I also clocked the Shard and the London Brass Eye. Production scales off the chart! Amazing work! The fact that we get to see such incredible work for free is excellent! It seems like a relatively modern building (60s or 70s?), big flats and in a stunning semi rural location with good access to Central London, how did this extremely interesting building end up abandoned like this? There are quite a few interesting places in Stoke-on-Trent too, I'd love to see in the old Tesco building in Hanley and it's relatively short lift shafts. The cars are absolutely huge though but I think that's because as well as serving customers they doubled as service lifts to bring goods to the shop floor from the basement. I seem to remember seeing workers truck big upright square cages on castors up as you used the lift sometimes, I think! That's a memory from probably about 35 years ago though! Happy new year!
Many thanks @UK Lifts. This means that I'm going to have to make a 30K special. Knowing me, it'll probably get to 40K subs until I've finally finished it!! :D

My guess would be asbestos. It is probably the most common cause of why such buildings are abandoned and demolished in Europe.
