Good luck Ben and everyone else taking part, I’m volunteering at the finishing giving out the foil blankets while’s my other half is giving out medals too
Can’t wait for race day. I last ran London in 2013 in a time of 3:58 with some very questionable training. This year I have followed a strict plan form my coach and should be on target for a Sub 3:30-3:15 time fingers crossed
Just wanted to say a massive thanks to you Ben. My husband and I did your marathon training plan and both got PBs running Manchester Marathon. I knocked 20 min off my previous time from last year.
My tips: don't push too much until the last 5k. After, don't collapse and not move, keep the legs moving a bit, and spin your legs on a bike the next day in an easy gear to flush out the lactate acid. Good luck everyone - I'm running Rotterdam on Sunday 👍
Gentle swimming the day after a marathon is also good, to get the blood to wash out the lactic acid from your legs, but your advice here is excellent also -- especially about not collapsing after the race. Keep moving. Remember that they always "hot walk" race horses after a hard race -- "hot walking" yourself after a race is just as important.
This IS the best advice to give -- you're right !! Enjoy every minute of it is even more important than advice about shoes or water stations or anything else. You have the right attitude. 😀
Another fab video Ben and Sarah 👏👏 I've run London 8 times and I would say my best tip is to put your NAME on your top! People screaming your name in the latter stages is a huge boost 😊💥👍 Can't wait for this year! Good luck to you too and everyone else running. It's magic!! Nic x
All the Best Ben, 🙏 Thank you for all your no bull videos, which have spurred me on to take up running for the first time since my teens. Now 48 and a heart attack 3 years ago. I completed my first race today 16th April 2023. Merseyside Tunnel 10k. Was very nervous days out, but as soon as I was on the line the nerves were gone. Can't remember much of the race but it felt good. My A plan 50 min. B plan 55 min. C plan under the hour. Came in at 55.48 My pace setting was spot on. Just wanted to say thank you. And I have purchased your 10k l3 improver plan for my next race in June. Thank you ❤
Congratulations on your successful race! Well done to have the courage to get back out there after a heart attack. I have met former heart patients in their 80's who are still running -- I hope you will be like them!
@@L00PYDRAG0N Cool! I am 73 and training for my 23rd New York City Marathon, so hopefully you are also starting a very long personal running tradition. Enjoy!! 😀
Thank you! You keep going also!! This is the first note I have ever received from a "dragon." LOL. Dave Obelkevich from NYC is 79 years old and in 2022 completed his 46th New York City Marathon -- more NYC Marathons than anyone else in history. Connie Brown from Florida is also 79 years old, and in 2022 she completed her 43rd NYC Marathon. Those can be our role models, "Loopydragon." Whichever gender you are, one of these people can be your inspiration! Dave is a retired music teacher and concert violinist, which I think is a cool career.
Just wanted to say thanks Ben. I used your intermediate marathon plan L3 for London. Being my first marathon I wasn’t sure what to target but settled on 3:40-3:45 and finished 3:42. Super happy if not a little disappointed that I dropped the 2 min pace advantage I had built up (on the final 8km). Never mind!
Thanks Ben! I can’t wait. First marathon! Tore my ankle in September and wasn’t even walking when I found out I had a ballot place. I’ve put myself in the 5h15 pen but if I can get sub 5hours I’ll be happy. Your tips will be needed! Good luck to everyone else too!
Ben I wanted you to know I used your intermediate half marathon training program. When I was 15 yo I entered my first race which was a half marathon. My time was 2:37:50. 31 years later I ran the Coastal Delaware Half marathon in a time of 2:07:30. I think my time would have been better but part of the Course was flooded. Thank you for helping me achieve a personal best!
Good luck! I can't make it to the shakeout run, but I will also be running the London Marathon. It is my first trip to your city. I'll try to keep an eye out for you.
Got myself a hat and top from your web site. Looking forward to it arriving. Been following you for some months now. I have the big. I have a rotation on shoes that has hit 9. Cheers
I LOVE the widespread of pacers! I came in at 5:56 at my first marathon, but all the pacers stopped at like 4h or less. Would have loved some pacer company!
My tip: The start is a hassle to get to from many areas of London so leave plenty of time. (It is possibly easier and more straightforward to get from my house in SW London to the Brighton marathon than to the London one!)
this will be my 4th London Marathon - last year certain restaurants gave free food for marathons runners we went to Bill's. One thing that I'm considering this year is to run without my hydration vestvand just rely on the water stations. I will take my own gels, salt tablets etc...
Great video as always.. My tip for after.. take advantage of all the free food your medal gets you 😂. There will be a thread rounding up the deals somewhere. In October I got a free Franco Manca Pizza and Halloumi wrap from The Real Greek! Some places do it all week!
Thanks for the vid! Do you really get free travel? I saw a member of staff at the station refusing to let a runner through the barriers last year because she had misplaced her card!
I know your're English but even as a Non American..Boylston Drive can match Tower Bridge or even better..but as a SAFFA will stay neutral.. Anyhoo ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!
No. You're tracked by your timing chip attached to your shoe. The tracking map will show an estimate of where you are, but only actually updates accurately once you cross timing mats. I believe these are every 5k. If you slow down a lot (hopefully you don't) make your family aware it could show you at a timing section on the map, but in reality you might not have got there. This panics a lot of people as they can't find friends and they don't know where they are. Tell them it'll update again once you crossthe next mat. Good luck and enjoy.

Great tip. Totally agree the crowd want to know who to cheer for. 👏
Yes! Also put your name on your shirt if you run the New York City Marathon. They will yell for you by name the entire marathon.

Officially it is not free on Southeastern after the race but they will usually let you through anyway if you have a race number on.
Overtaking Lucy Charles @ 6.31 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Colour blinds will find those bib colours wonderful. Bright idea.
Best of luck on race day. My only gripe is that I can’t be there as London doesn’t allow non UK best of age times unlike the other Abbott 6.
Hi Ben, can you give some tips about where to stay? What is a good place for a B&B. Love to here because I will run London Marathon in 2024 🎉
Hi Ben, just wondered why you don’t play the outro music anymore? I quite liked the tune 😊
just about to run my 1st marathon in London this Sunday, do u have any tips on what to wear on top half?
Thanks for the vid! Do you really get free travel? I saw a member of staff at the station refusing to let a runner through the barriers last year because she had misplaced her card!
I’m already confused and haven’t got passed the intro!!! I wasn’t intending to run parkrun the day before but should I?
I’m running Wave 1 Green. Let me know if you’re in this starting wave
Great video and detail, thank you for sharing. Has anyone got a link to find the 2023 app for IOS because I can’t find it anywhere! Thanks
Hey Ben! Are you guys planning any meeting afterwards?
Heyluveverybuddy! 😊😊
What wave are you in ?
🤞🤞🤞
What do you eat on the morning of the marathon?
Quaker Oats porridge bars 2 hours before. Has 110g carbs
Try and stick to your normal routine what you have done for your long trainings runs
Hi Ben, do they have km markers on the course or only mile markers?
Every mile and also every 5km I believe
I know your're English but even as a Non American..Boylston Drive can match Tower Bridge or even better..but as a SAFFA will stay neutral.. Anyhoo ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!
Why has Sarah stopped making vlogs?
Starting Yellow Wave 1 - aiming for 2:35, reply if going for the same
How do you manage to get a place so often?
Pretty sure he can reliably make the sub-3hr good for age time needed for 18-39 year-olds.
@@wk633 ah yes ofc, completely forgot this was an option!
Have you ever run Boston? It's so close to London I suppose you can't run both at 100%.
They're on different continents...
Close in time, not distance.
Are there any toilets around the course?
Yes, near most water stations I seem to recall
Do I need to run with my phone on me for spectators to be able to track me through the official App?
No. You're tracked by your timing chip attached to your shoe.
The tracking map will show an estimate of where you are, but only actually updates accurately once you cross timing mats. I believe these are every 5k.
