Helpful video. I find the more i try to sound like other people the worse my video is. It's important to grow and get better but we also have to be honest with our own capabilities or comfort.
I understand what you mean, in a way I feel the same. Focusing on the goal is important to strive towards that but also focus on stepping stones along the way and what you can learn from it. Those trial and error is important in the present and eventually is going to get you somewhere better.
I was so ready to upload consistently and then my computer finally kicked the bucket! I'm staying consistent with shorts in the meantime until I can afford a new one. No chance I'm stopping! I just have this feeling that I'm headed in the right direction. Encouraging and informative videos like these make it so much easier to hold onto hope! Great stuff.
Omg mine also kicked the budget. Luckily I was able to edit and upload videos scheduled once a week up to the end of February. I'm hoping I can get a new computer or fix it by then. 😢
@@WeblightDreamsStudio isn’t it just so frustrating when you actually have all the motivation and logistics get in the way! I feel like the pent up motivation from having to wait will be super beneficial eventually tho. That’s awesome that you were already uploading consistently, I had posted my first video and then a week later my computer died 😂
@kaila.evelyn Yes. I had made a list of 60 video ideas and was in the middle of editing 7 videos and working on two scripts for 2 videos that were ready to go. Lost all of that work. And it's weird because every 2-3 years I have to buy a new computer.
Yup. For you, probably ways to rent property, estimating rentals, how to determine a good property to buy, what to do if rent is not paid on time, etc etc. I'm a property investor myself :)
Hope you had a merry Christmas and all the best with year 2025! Yes, it’s a long game. Thanks for your inspiration. I’m excited for your new plans mentioned from your newsletter. May your goals be fulfilled! 🎉
Hi Kevin, yes the second channel idea is a good one for me. It will mean my main channel can be more focused and my second topic will be focused on a niche I know a lot about. Thankyou again.
This video came just at the right time for me. All the points mentioned are things that I have either been doing or have prepared to do and upload. I like your on point explanation in all your videos I watched so far. New subscriber here 😊
Thanks Kevin. You summed it up about as good as anyone. I've got a channel that is 1 year and 4 months old. I got my first 1k of subs in December. So, I've watched lots of how to TH-cam videos. I'm actually starting a new channel about becoming a TH-camr. It will be for expeirmenting and for the fun of it. That's why I watched your video. I'm going to follow your seven steps.
2 channels is a great idea - after spending one year on TH-cam - I really feel we need the other one to enjoy, experiment and experience - thanks. Will give it a shot in 2025 if time permits. I just have time one in 10 days to record - if I can record two videos in that one day - I am almost there.
The biggest issue I've come across with niching down to a very specific topic is when you post things that are too specific, people only know you for that one thing, and that's what they expect it. If that person doesn't enjoy talking about it all the time, it can quickly lead to burnout if they are pressured to only talk about that subject, if they made it so narrow that the only audience that watch them are there for that specific narrow topic. Whenever I find a video I really enjoyed, I will go to a youtube channel and see what their channel is about. If 90% of their videos are about youtube growth, sure I will subscribe right away, but that is also very transactional, so in a way, I am only subscribing because they are talking about the topic. However, IF that person got tired of talking about it and switched, I am not likely going to watch it. However, if their channel has a mixture of everything they enjoyed, I might not subscribe right away, but if I do, I also know that they are likely going to post other things too, so I don't have an expectation. Does that make sense? I think it's important for small creators to know what they enjoy talking about, because sure some topics get more views, but is it worth it if you are stuck talking about it and feeling trapped that you can't get out ? It's almost like giving up your happiness for the algorithm and I just would hate to see that person quit eventually because they felt that they couldn't talk about things they wanted anymore.
At first, I have the same thinking as you but soon I realise there's a reason for a channel to be specific. The thing is, audience just wants the same thing over and over again because that's how they see TH-cam, a channel with a very specific type of content. If you take a closer look, you may notice that a channel that talks random stuff like day-to-day experiences, they too are in a specific niche (random stuff niche). There's no cookie cutter niche, you can create any niche you want really as long as it is clear to your audience. All channels faces this. PewDiePie, who grew his channel through gaming and reaction, recently made the change to parental and life vlogs. His sub is dropping and views are low for a channel his size (still high though). I'm sure it won't work well too for MrBeast if he starts to talk about personal development.
@@KevinChee OMG I feel you! Years ago I made websites and I remember when I made a site specific for one show, it was a hit but the ones that are about everything always confused people. I always wanted that one day, TH-cam would make the feature for users to subscribe to playlists instead of the entire channel so it gives people more freedom to make different things. It's really sad that YT is made that way and yes, you're right people do like to see the same things over and over. But it's also so easy for creators to burn out and quit because they don't feel like they are able to be creative anymore. I think that's a big reason why a lot of big creators quit too, they're sick of feeling limited. I guess that's why I have to turn a blind eye to my stats because I know if I talked about the same thing I would quit by next month. Let's hope one day TH-cam will help creators stay more creative by allowing people to not rely on making the same content!
Hi Kevin, What do you think of "Solo Budget Travel for women over 50"? Is it specific enough. I am refocusing my channel for 2025. Thank you for all the tips
It could work. Experiment around and you'll find out more. Also, do take note that by having it as 'over 50', you're essentially narrowing down to those over 50 so a research you might wanna do is to understand the age of most of your target audience. I don't know if the audience for over 50 is big (it might be) but I would start thinking about that

Great advice! I feel 2025 is going to be a good year for me and all those that are just starting out and striving to succeed 👍
You got this!
Great advice! Nothing is holding me back in the new year. Let’s gooooo!
Cheers! Let's get it!
Helpful video. I find the more i try to sound like other people the worse my video is. It's important to grow and get better but we also have to be honest with our own capabilities or comfort.
I don't watch other channels in my niche because of that
I find it easiest when I talk like I would with a friend.
Love your advice homie, thank you
Good stuff.
Thank you, Kevin! Every time I get discouraged, I tell myself 50 more videos. That gets me focused on the future vs the present.
I understand what you mean, in a way I feel the same. Focusing on the goal is important to strive towards that but also focus on stepping stones along the way and what you can learn from it. Those trial and error is important in the present and eventually is going to get you somewhere better.
another way to see this is to look at how close you are to your goal. Some channels do achieve their goal with relatively low subs.

Depending on what you do. You don't nerd a computer. My entire channel I do on my phone!!

One thing about you Kevin, is that you are very likeable and sincere, and that will make people subscribe and watch more.

Having a second channel for "fun, and creativity/experimentation" sounds VERY tempting.....
It does. I reckon it is worth exploring

Two TH-cam channels?? I don't have time for one, so certainly not for two.
It will make sense once you establish a systematic approach :)
