The M96 swedish mauser action, even though it's a small ring action, the steel they used has a high nickel content.Sweeden has excellent steel, probably the best in Europe, so it would it most likely handle the higher pressure non magnum rounds like 308Win 7mm 08 etc. Nice job on the project.
Thank you. I'm a big fan of the 96. I can't wait to get that one done! The one in this video is a m95 Oviedo I am still waiting for the bolt handle to get back to work on this one. I gotta decide what to chamber it in I have decided yet! My m96 is a 6.5x55 I should be doing another video on it very soon so stay tuned! Thanks for watching I appreciate it!
@Dartfreak75 Im sure you heard all the stuff regarding higher pressure ammo ln Spanish mauser 93 small ring actions.I have 3 M16 Spanish mausers in 7.62 Nato. I reload for it with a reduced loading along the lines of the Spanish CETME loading for accuracy . I shot on occasion 308 Win Factory with no problems. Your results may vary . I'm sure in 6.5x55 would be fine. Like your channel.
@@jeffreynunes272 yes most of the "soft" receivers you read about were 93s I've never had any issues with 95s or 96s I wouldn't wouldn't to chance it and build a extremely high pressure round there are alot of good lower pressure rounds to choose from. 65x55 7x57 257 roberts 300 savage 250 savage all come to mind! Thanks I'm glad you enjoy my content!
Thats a tough one to answer. Yes and no. They don't like like to feed shorter rounds they tilt, nose dive jam etc. I built a 450 bm. And tried several different things and never really got it to feed reliably. They make (made) spacer kits that takes up the extra room in the magwell and you modified the follower to be shorter. This would probably work if done correctly. I haven't ever tried it yet. My plan was to make my own spacer and follower I never got around to it. 6.5 Grendel would be a fun round in that mauser!
I do have a drill press. It's a small one and takes longer to get set up straight than just drilling by hand. The beauty of that jig is it keeps everything nice and straight so even with a hand drill the holes are straight. But I could do it with my drill press too.

Any idea if the Standard Swedish Mauser inbuilt box magazine will feed a shorter round? I am thinking of building a 6.5 Grendel,
