- I found some of my best thrift finds yet! Lots of vintage home decor, including some regency style frames, an apothecary style wooden drawer, books AND MORE. We went to FOUR stores in one day. I was exhausted but it was so worth it!

Being a Brit I have to tell you that the framed picture isn’t of a Scottish castle it’s a gothic/medieval cathedral in York, which is in England not in Scotland ♥️
Oh ok, someone had written Scotland 1993 on the back so I assumed someone got it on a trip there or something lol. They led me astray 😂

Why everyone being so rude? Lol. I can see why she misunderstood but also why it seems obvious to everyone else… perhaps the same reason someone from the UK could buy a portrait of a mansion in Canada on a trip to Canada and America, writing something similar… and someone 30 years later thinks it’s America… not all of us are architectural savants lol. Scotty, I think it’s beautiful and I’d totally hang something like that in my home! (PS I have a painting of a Scottish castle in my home. Someday someone may think it’s English lol!!)

The organizer with the drawer is a men’s valet for the top of a bureau . The sections are for keys, change, wallet, etc.
That’s what someone else said too. I love that! Definitely will be used for something different but I think that gives it some charm knowing in the past a gentleman might have stored his pocket watch and keys in it. Not me inventing a story about an eccentric physics professor who once owned this box 😂
My dad had something like that. There were holes in the top for him to put his pipes. I don't know if a pipe would fit in the holes on yours or not but my father would smoke a pipe and his valet included space for that

If you put glass back in that pretty white frame, you can use it for a dry erase board.
Taking off the dust jacket is definitely acceptable. However don’t get rid of it. If you do decide to resell or regift, return the dust jacket as it helps retain the books overall value.

This is the first video I have seen of yours. I am enjoying it. You mentioned that you take dust jackets off, I do too. For MY personal library, I cut the front flap that the synopsis is on, I glue it and trim, except for the words and glue it in the front cover, then I do the author from the back flap to the inside back page,,,, The ONLY time I would not do this with is on a 1st edition.... I also love the beautiful, deep and solid colors rather than the chaos of the random dust jackets

I tend to organize my books by size and color rather than alphabetical (I’m a visual person) so the solid color makes it much easier! ☺️
Omg! I totally do that with dust jackets too! It only stays if the hardcover looks icky underneath! And the entire douglas addams for that price?! Hardcover?! I'd literally squeal right there in the store!😂

I loved YOUR thrifting stuff and your humor (you are very well preserved for 85 years old 🤣). So want that old style little orange purse with attached mirror!!!!! Was thinking those old books bound by rubber bands might have been cool by replacing rubber band with ribbon or lace and laid flat on something OR maybe in shadow box OR maybe pics on pages inside put in frames (although it's hard for me to take apart a book).
I have that exact same kitten photo! It’s in a round frame too. It was given to me from my great grandma, who loved to cut out images from magazines and calendars for decor. ❤
The second wooden box is for the office for sure. It isn't antique, but I had one from the 60s. I had a larger wooden Japanese "writing box" (like a pen + ink sorter + outbound/inbound letters section) from the 80s like that too, but it was made in the style of the 50s-60s, the way we make "1970s style" stuff in 2023.
Thrift 'till you drop kind of day. Yes that's the kind of day I love :D My parents-in-law have the entire set of the soup cups, with all the different kind of soups :D
I always see those cups too! They’re so cute! I’m always so tempted but I own a million cups/mugs 😂 and only I use like 2 of them depending on what’s clean. My “emotional support mugs” 😂
Be careful thrifting dishware, older glassware can contain lead. My sister got lead poisoning this past summer from cute thrifted cups. You can get a lead chemical testing kit online. Just a PSA.

The small drawer item is called a valet. Used for inkwells, pens, watches, etc. Typically used by men on their nightstands or desks.

Yess! I mean some look meh but the ones I have look great without the dust jacket. Plus idk if it’s just me, but the dust jackets of my books always get a little messed up around the edges when I carry them in my bag.
And the tan 80’s top is a dream. I made a scene when I saw it and ran to it gasping 😂😂 a lady in the next isle was like 👀

I remember the infomercials for the Olde Brooklyn Lantern. The big selling point was that they were made from "genuine metal!" They never specified what metal.
Those platters you regret not getting could be used for so many things. You could display vintage jewelry. Hair clips or even your most used to go makeup items.

I have friends that insist I go thrift with them because they swear up and down I have magical thrift powers and the good stuff only shows up if I'm there! 😂 I think some of us just have a better eye/ years more experience...I've been thrifting since I can remember...so I know where they hide the good stuff! 😜

regarding the lamps, I am pretty sure that there are battery powered or rechargeable light bulbs that screw into most fittings and are remote controlled, might be an option

You should consider buying some of the clothes you likes but would t fit you, and making pillows out of them. Especially that one cottage core dress. Would be so cute.
That might be a good idea! I think though I would only do that for garnets that have busted zippers or a portion that is damaged. If feel bad turning a garment that’s wearable for someone else into a pillow. But that’s just me haha.

Oh I'm having a candle and fire light moment as well, but it bugs me a potential fire so I saw at aliexpress some led candles that flickered just like the real candles, and they even have some that you can buy in a set and turn all of them on and off at the same time with a remote control! And they are pretty cheap.

New Subscriber here - I love your aesthetic - very cute thrift haul so jealous you got some great stuff!!! Goodwill does have some incredible education and workforce initiatives I have to say especially for adults that are differently abled. THough i do feel they overprice their items.
That is true - I guess I’m referring to the recent information about the executives, specifically the CEO earning millions in wages meanwhile the workers are paid less than liveable wages in most areas. There was some uproar about that especially since they started raising prices which makes it harder for people that can only afford to thrift to afford items there any more. Some of that has to do with transportation costs going up though... I’m definitely going to have to research the issue more. I love my local goodwill staff and I’m on excellent terms with their local social media & have done collaborations so I still support them. With anything these days there are definitely flaws.

For the most part, I enjoyed the video. However, it is kinda weird to be so into the academia aesthetic and not actually enjoy reading the books you buy, imo. Collecting books for the aesthetic value alone seems kinda wasteful. Like, someone who loves science fiction could have picked up that copy of Hitchhiker's Guide and actually used it to read. It could have made some broke teen book-lover's day. As someone who collects books to read them, it's sad to hear someone picked up such a good book just to look at the cover.
This is an old video so I can’t remember if I mentioned it but I didn’t simply get the book for the cover but I am a fan of the series and wanted a nice hard copy. I’ve read the series several times. I just prefer audiobooks for accessibility since I am AuDHD. A lot of people say audiobook reading isn’t real reading or isn’t valid but research showing brain scans of audiobook consumers shows otherwise. The whole argument against audiobooks is rooted pretty deeply in ableism.
Additionally, most thrift stores in my area are overflowing with donations, including books. I see that title all the time at thrift stores so I’m sure that broke teen book lover will still have access to it just like this broke 30 year old sci-fi geek 😁
